fantasy premier league GW31 – the early bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW31 bandwagons and sinking ships article where we look at the 5 most transferred in and 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek.

fantasy premier league GW31 – the early bandwagons and sinking ships

Remember this is a 2 week gameweek as it’s an international break and gives you a longer time for an early transfers to get injured.  It’s also a gameweek where Aston Villa and QPR play twice

The Bandwagons

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek in order

Giroud

Interesting one this.  There’s no doubting the £8.5m Arsenal forwards form having scored 6 goals and an assist in his last 5 games and scoring in all those last 5 games. That culminated in his 2 goal performance away to Newcastle last weekend.  None of this is a fluke as he has good underlying stats.  The interesting part though is that he has a bye week in GW33 and plays the form defence in Liverpool (albeit at home) next in GW32.  Arsenal also have mixed fixtures overall coming up although the Burnley fixture is certainly tempting

Next 6 fixtures:

Liverpool (H)
Burnley (A)
– Gameweek 33 –
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Swansea (H)

Charlie Austin

As you may have seen from previous articles on the DGW31 coming up that the £6.4m QPR forward Austin and Villa forward Benteke are the obvious options for the double gameweekers QPR and Villa respectively.  Form wise it’s 1 assist in his last 3 for Austin although his shooting stats haven’t been too bad.  It remains to be seen whether Benteke and Austin will be the captain choice when you’ve got Hazard home to Stoke,  Kane at Burnley and Aguero at Palace.  Although the DGW31 fixtuires could be worse the fixtures after show that he would be a difficult hold afterwards including a blank GW33.  Has pens.

Chelsea (H)
– Gameweek 33 –
West Ham (H)
Liverpool (A)
Man City (A)

Silva

4 goals and 2 assists for the City midfielder who now has 11 for the season.  Thats 4 more than he ever has scored in the premier league for an entire season.  Certainly his underlying stats have been excellent and he tops the last 4 shooting and creating chances stats.  Can he keep it up?  He certainly has the fixtures to keep the form.  If you had to look for a cloud it would be the fact that his shot to goal ratio is far better than any midfielder.  Is he overperforming which will eventually catch up with him or is he just getting into better positions or is he just clinical?

Man Utd (A)
West Ham (H)
Aston Villa (H)
Spurs (A)
QPR (H)

Mata

An exceptional performance from the the £8.3m Man Utd midfielder with 2 goals against the form defence of Liverpool at the moment.  Has played 2 games now since Di Maria was suspended and then left out last gameweek by LVG.  Those 2 starts came after 6 games where he was a sub for 4 with a maximum gametime of 14 minutes and missing out completely on 2.  Despite the excellent game he blanked in the 3-0 win over Spurs although his overall return rate of a FPL  point every 16.1 minutes isn’t too bad at all.  No underlying stats  (his shooting stats are only marginally better than say Ramires) although I keep emphasising that in midfielders shooting stats aren’t everything.  Fixtures are mixed

Aston Villa (H)
Man City (H)
Chelsea (A)
Everton (A)
West Brom (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

De Gea

Not often you see a GK in this.  Man Utd are 6th equal on the clean sheet stakes but only Chelsea and Southampton have conceded less goals.  Form wise it’s 3 clean sheets in the last 4 and certainly the underlying defensive stats aren’t that bad.  Fixtures are mixed.  There’s no doubting what a quality GK the £5.9m Man Utd player  is, it’s just that FPL doesn’t give you credit for that and how the guy only has 2 bonus points after his season is beyond me.

Aston Villa (H)
Man City (H)
Chelsea (A)
Everton (A)
West Brom (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek

Aguero

1 assist in his last 4 and 3 consecutive blanks is not the form you want from a £12.8m forward for Man City.  Certainly it’s not as if he hasn’t had the chances and his shooting stats are still there.  It’s just that nothing is going in.  City have the fixtures for him to put the situation right but in the last 3 he’s blanked against Leicester and Burnley so how much consolation that is remains to be seen.    There also does seem to be a correlation between City playing 2 strikers and him not scoring which also isn’t helping the situation.  However underlying all of this is that everyone knows his class, everyone knows that  every man and his dog has him in his team who’s still active in FPL.  To ditch him you have to be the person who’s willing to risk Aguero suddenly finding the back of the net again (potentially in multiple amounts) and punsihing your ranking. Aguero isn’t just any striker he’s total quality.  Also has pens btw.

West Ham (H)
Aston Villa (H)
Spurs (A)
QPR (H)

Forster

The £5.6m Southampton GK leads the transfers out due to what appears to be a serious knee injury although scan results are still awaited.  It does bring into play £4.4m GK Kelvin Davis as a replacement but his longeveity depends on Forsters injury.  If it is a long term injury then £4.4m for a GK with the best clean sheet and goals conceded record in the league is an absolute bargain

Everton (A)
Hull (H)
Stoke (A)
Spurs (H)
Sunderland (A)
Leicester (A)

Sanchez

Another player who’s form has fallen off a cliff and it’s now 1 goal in his last 7 games incredibly.  Not what you want to see from the £11.3m Arsenal midfielder.  That has been put down to the return of Ozil who has certainly become the central focal point of the attacking midfield.  Despite that his underlying stats are definitely holding up though and he still seems to get chances.  Liverpool next and a blank GW33 are the attractions for selling.  His ownership though among the active and leading managers is far lower than say Aguero so he isn’t the ranking risk that Aguero would be in a return to form.  Will have a DGW37

Liverpool (H)
Burnley (A)
– Gameweek 33 –
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Swansea (H)

Ozil

The £9.1m Arsenal midfielder missed the Newcastle game through illness although that may not affect future gametime considering he was seen in a Berlin nightclub hours later.  2 goals and 5 assists in 7 games after coming back from injury plus a central attacking midfield position have seen him as a viable alternative to Sanchez at a far cheaper price.  The question will always be will he be able to add goals to his game as an assist based player.  He has good creating chances stats and a good share of set pieces.  Interestingly though although his shooting stats have been poor over the season recently it has improved.  Mixed fixtures with a blank at GW33 but a DGW37 in the future

Liverpool (H)
Burnley (A)
– Gameweek 33 –
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Swansea (H)

Berahino

The £5.6m WBA forward was withdrawn from international duty due to an ankle problem although no sense from Pulis that there is any long term issue just a need to recover.  2 blanks in the last 2 games won’t have helped but that did follow 2 consecutive scoring games. No real underlying stats but he does have good fixtures and transferring anyone out who has a home game to WBA next is really looking for trouble.  Also has pens.  I suspect alot of transfers are straight swaps for Charlie Austin.
