fantasy premier league GW32 MIDFIELDER TIPS

Salah

Anyone who thought you could get through the double gameweek period without him had those thoughts dispelled with his 4 goal demolition of Watford in GW31.  Unbelievable returns, consistency, explosiveness and all backed up by fantastic underlying stats

32 Crystal Palace (A)
33 Everton (A)
34 Bournemouth (H)
35 West Brom (A)
36 Stoke (H)
37 Chelsea (A)
38 Brighton (H)

Hazard

It’s probably just the cost and the Willian price comparison that makes him a difficult purchase.

Hazard has started 22 games plus 4 as sub for 11 goals and 5 assists. His remarkable ability to get bonus with 23 to date has given him an excellent PP90 of 7.2. In 5 of the 7 games where he’s just got a single goal or assist he’ s got some sort of bonus which says alot.  The penalty responsibility has also helped his returns and this is a big bonus for a midfielder. Probably been the most productive as a support striker or on the left rather than a false 9.

His consistency has just about been acceptable with 11 games returning a goal or assist of the 22 starts. 6 double figure FPL point hauls show his explosiveness.

The only criticism is his underlying stats which for him, at his cost,  to be ranked 14th is pretty poor.  However there are a few players who just consistently outperform their stats and Hazard is certainly one having done it the last 4 seasons for Chelsea.

32 Spurs (H)
33 West Ham (H)
34 Southampton (A)
34 Burnley (A)
35 None
36 Swansea (A)
37 Liverpool (H)
37 Huddersfield (H)
38 Newcastle (A)

Mahrez

I suspect with Leicesters fixtures, Mahrez’s recent form and anticipated high ownership he will be a difficult player to not have in your team especially if you’re bench boosting in GW34.

He generally plays 90 minutes and has set piece responsibility. So far he’s started 26 games plus 2 as sub and with 10 goals and 11 assists so  he’s already done the “double double”.  He is also always in the frame for bonus with a healthy 18 to date.  Mahrez also has the rare ability to be consistent with 17 returning games from his 26 starts (65%) and explosive with 5 double figure FPL point hauls.

His underlying stats are probably the only negative.  You wouldn’t expect the 4th highest point scorer to be 22nd in the midfield underlying stats ranking.  He has the ability to over perform these as he did in 15/16 when Leicester won the title.  He also has the ability to underperform as he did last season and in the season prior to winning the title.  It remains to be seen whether this is significant.

32 Brighton (A)
33 Newcastle (H)
34 Burnley (A)
34 Southampton (H)
35 None
36 Crystal Palace (A)
37 West Ham (H)
37 Arsenal (H)
38 Spurs (A)

Sanchez

I’ve ranked people irrespective of price so the fact that Sanchez is prohibitively expensive doesn’t come into it.  It’s a ranking on perceived future performance.

Sanchez’s United start has been a disaster. His ability to give the ball away was often overlooked because of his goal and assist output for Arsenal but for United were only seeing the bad and not the good.  He’s started 6 games for 1 goal and 1 assist. The goal was a rebound from his own missed penalty. His PP90 for United is a quite staggering 3.1 and he’s yet to earn a bonus point in Utd colours.  Also his United underlying stats don’t really help.  Over the season his Arsenal underlying stats put him amongst the top midfielders in 6th according to my formula.  His United performances would put him 25th, just above Choupo Moting.

This is all about who he is and the fixtures and the lack of other options apart from Lukaku in the Man Utd attack.  Can Mourinho have ruined another world class star or is the Sanchez that got 24 goals and 11 assists last season and produced good underlying stats for Arsenal this season still in there somewhere?  That’s what you need to decide as well as discover a money pit.

So to sum up.  He’s Sanchez with excellent fixtures but in a terrible run of form.

If you’re going to roll the dice home to Swansea is a great time to do so.

32 Swansea (H)
33 Man City (A)
34 West Brom (H)
34 Bournemouth (A)
35 None
36 Arsenal (H)
37 Brighton (A)
37 West Ham (A)
38 Watford (H)

Son HM

Son should play as a striker while Kane is injured.  He’s in great form and has great underlying stats to back that up.

There is some gametime risk attached to him though.  When Kane returns (and that is a big when) he then faces competition from Lamela and Moura for his place and that assumes Poch plays a back 4 and not 3 where Eriksen and Alli could be the only AM’s.  When Kane returns is the big question but Poch’s press conference had alot of maybe’s for this and next weekend which does attach more risk than probably originally anticipated.

If form is any criteria though he should be safe as an AM when Kane returns although the midweek game prior to the FACup semi in 34 could be a rotation risk.

32 Chelsea (A)
33 Stoke (A)
34 Man City (H)
34 Brighton (A)
35 None
36 Watford (H)
37 West Brom (A)
37 Newcastle (H)
38 Leicester (H)

Mkhitaryan

With  no DGW34,  if you’re planning on bench boosting in that week then he is a difficult transfer despite some great fixtures.  If you’re not then he’s a far better prospect.  Although Arsenal are concentrating on the Europa League as a vehicle for a Champions League place which Mkhitaryan’s lack of minutes should put him in the frame for the PL fixtures.

Mkhitaryan’s brief Arsenal career of 5 games plus 1 as sub has seen him score 1 goal and got 4 assists at a PP90 of 6.8. Has sub magnet potential though only playing 90 minutes in 2 of the 5 starts.  It’s a bit early to say if that’s a pattern or a fitness buildup.

32 Stoke (H)
33 Southampton (H)
34 Newcastle (A)
35 West Ham (H)
36 Man Utd (A)
37 Burnley (H)
37 Leicester (A)
38 Huddersfield (A)

Willian

Willian has had rather up and down gametime as his 16 starts plus 13 sub appearances shows. He has started the last 3 although how long he stays on the field can be a bit variable. When playing he’s been brilliant for 6 goals and 7 assists at a PP90 that only Hazard, Son and Salah can better. 13 bonus points isn’t to be sniffed at either when you’ve got Hazard hoovering them up left right and centre.  The returns are backed up by very good underlying stats.

Probably his big attraction is his price which is cheap for a Chelsea mid.  That’s the case as he was perceived as a gametime risk when prices were handed out.  That’s still the case but like Son if form is anything to go by he should be safe.

32 Spurs (H)
33 West Ham (H)
34 Southampton (A)
34 Burnley (A)
35 None
36 Swansea (A)
37 Liverpool (H)
37 Huddersfield (H)
38 Newcastle (A)

Arnautovic

Another player with no DGW34 so if you’re thinking of bench boosting in that week he will be a questionable acquisition.

A big attraction playing as either a CF or part of a front 3.

After a rocky start the last 12 games have seen all his 7 goals and 4 assists returning in 8 of those games.  His underlying stats are also very good.  He’s not great for bonus though with only 7 to date

32 Southampton (H)
33 Chelsea (A)
34 Stoke (H)
35 Arsenal (A)
36 Man City (H)
37 Leicester (A)
37 Man Utd (H)
38 Everton (H)

Eriksen

Eriksen is Spurs creative force and set piece man and is therefore crucial to the team.  That has seen him be pretty much rotation proof and a 90 minute man.  Lamela is probably the only player who could be rotated in for him.

He’s started 29 of the 30 PL games for Spurs and scored 7 goals and 9 assists and has been fairly consistent returning in 15 of the 29 games.  Only 3 double figure point hauls which is disappointing.

Away to Chelsea next is a tricky time to bring him in as is the DGW34 with Man City involved.

32 Chelsea (A)
33 Stoke (A)
34 Man City (H)
34 Brighton (A)
35 None
36 Watford (H)
37 West Brom (A)
37 Newcastle (H)
38 Leicester (H)

Gudmundsson

The inevitable part of your team whether on a wildcard or not will be some cheaper players who don’t return at an ideal rate but are necessary to fill up your team.  Gudmundsson turned the corner in GW10 where in 21 starts he’s played in or around 90 minutes every week and has scored 2 goals and 6 of his 7 assists.  They have all been single returns and he’s only got the 1 double figure point haul and 4 bonus points which seem to be reserved exclusively for GK Pope.  Underlying stats are patchy at best.

A cheap price, good fixtures and a DGW 34 plus a 35 fixture for those without a free hit are a major attraction.  Was some scare over an international break injury but that seems to have gone away as he’s been pictured in training

32 West Brom (A)
33 Watford (A)
34 Leicester (H)
34 Chelsea (H)
35 Stoke (A)
36 Brighton (H)
37 Arsenal (A)
38 Bournemouth (H)

Stanislas

Another DGW34 player who’s cheap although the fixtures are terrible.  Since coming back from injury he’s had 7 starts plus 1 sub appearance for an impressive 4 goals and 2 assists.  The underlying stats within that period are a bit feast or famine with 3 excellent games and the rest pretty ordinary.  Has good set piece responsibility

32 Watford (A)
33 Crystal Palace (H)
34 Liverpool (A)
34 Man Utd (H)
35 None
36 Southampton (A)
37 Swansea (H)
38 Burnley (A)

Gross

The Brighton set piece man and often support striker.  At a very basic level and even before you get to stats you can’t ask for much more than that.

The stats aren’t too bad.  28 starts plus 2 as sub with good minutes when he plays as well.  5 goals and 8 assists for 10 returning games which is a pretty ordinary 36%.  However his points per 90 is good thanks to an uncanny ability to earn bonus points with his total of 21.  For the price the only Mid that even gets close is Shaqiri with 16.

Even for the price though the underlying stats aren’t very good although he has had a recent mini revival of form and stats with a goal and 3 assists in his last 5.  Also 6 of his last 10 games have seen good underlying stats.

It’s just the fixtures once you get into the doubles that are a total disaster.

 32 Leicester (H)
33 Huddersfield (H)
34 Crystal Palace (A)
34 Spurs (H)
35 None
36 Burnley (A)
37 Man Utd (H)
37 Man City (A)
38 Liverpool (A)

Albrighton

I’m never that wild about a Mid that stands out on the touch line and relies on constant crosses to get you FPL points and to some extent that’s what Albrighton is although he does have some set piece involvement.  It has come at the cost also of virtually no goal threat.

The last game also involved a sub appearance which is a bit of a warning for this gameweek although prior to that he started the last 12.  2 goals and 8 assists from 26 starts plus 4 sub appearances with 9 returning games isn’t great.  The underlying stats are pretty hopeless as well.  Fixtures are good though and last weeks sub wobble aside he hopefully will start.

32 Brighton (A)
33 Newcastle (H)
34 Burnley (A)
34 Southampton (H)
35 None
36 Crystal Palace (A)
37 West Ham (H)
37 Arsenal (H)
38 Spurs (A)

Man City

Those eagle eyed of you may have noticed the lack of Man City players.  With the league nearly wrapped up and the Champions League inevitably the focus if they can get past Liverpool then who knows who Pep will pick.  In the midfield Bernardo stands out as the player with the least minutes in the PL.  Does that mean he will play all PL games, again who knows?  City will be important for GW35 and GW37 where they have excellent fixtures.  Those with a free hit for 35 can leave the options to the last minute and cover them with a bench.  Those without may have to take the plunge earlier
