bandwagons and sinking ships, Fantasy Premier League

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW32 TRANSFER TIPS – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred IN players so far in the gameweek.

Stats definition:

PP90: The FPL points per 90 minutes played.

ATGS/CS odds GW32: Anytime goal scorer odds or clean sheet odds for defenders for GW32

Fixture ease: The fixture ranking by difficulty for GW32 to the end of the season. See our fixture ease article

DGW34, DGW37, BGW35 – Here I positively say whether they have a DGW34, a fixture in the blank 35 or in the anticipated DGW37.  If nothing is stated it means they dont have a double or a fixture in the blank.

U Stats position rank. The ranking from an attacking point of view for their FPl position of Fwd, Mid or Def .  See our underlying stats article

fantasy premier league GW32 transfer tips

Lukaku

Lukaku has started 28 games plus 1 assist for 14 goals and 7 assists at a pretty ordinary PP90 of 5.1.

There are 4 main positives with Lukaku.  Firstly he has very good fixtures especially over the doubles where Man Utd are 1 of 6 teams with doubles in 34 and anticipated in 37.  In DGW34 there aren’t that many players with 2 games shouting out to be captain and the fixtures do mean he is a possible option.

Secondly, he’s consistent.  He’s scored or assisted in 18 of his 28 games which is very healthy 64% return rate.

Thirdly, he’s a selection consistency and 90 minute player in a team where no one looks 100% nailed on in the attacking areas apart from maybe and I mean maybe Sanchez.  The DGW34 game does come in the midweek just before the FA Cup semi which presents some rotation risk.  While 9 points over Chelsea in 5th seems reasonably comfortable away to Bournemouth isn’t a gimme fixture.

Fourth, his recent form is good 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 3 PL games returning in all 3.

However, all is not totally rosy in the Lukaku garden.  There are 2 big negatives

The first is bonus of which Lukaku has 15 and the related issue of double figure FPL point hauls of which Lukaku has 3.  Kane for context has 27 and 8.

The second is his underlying stats.  While over the season they aren’t too bad, although I would say for his price he doesn’t match up to the other £10m plus strikers.  The crucial negative is that in the last 10 games he has only produced his average once.  Once!  The stats are so front end of the season loaded it is alarming.

I personally have serious doubts about him especially in a team that is hardly front foot and free flowing.  However if he is a big captain and ownership favourite he may just be a very expensive hedge.

Aubameyang

Doesn’t have an underlying stats ranking as is yet to play 500 minutes which was my cut off point.  They are ok so far and were absolutely excellent for Dortmund.

It’s hard to judge someone on 5 games.  I think you have to look at him as a guy with undoubted pedigree who is nailed on for Arsenal in the PL due to his EL ineligibility.  Arsenal are also a side with good fixtures who have the ability to flat track bully a number of the lower placed teams at home.

Personally with the ok underlying stats, the fact that he has returned in 3 of the 5 games (just not against Man City and Spurs) and the fixtures that’s enough for me at the moment.  He just is, quite rightly, alot of cash and has no DGW34 which if you’re bench boosting in that fixture is a big negative.

Vardy

Another player like Lukaku who has a DGW34 and an anticipated DGW37.  Vardy has started 29 games and o sub appearances and is also a 90 minute player plus has penalties. He’s scored 14 goals and 2 assists for a PP90 of 4.8 with a healthy 20 bonus points.  He’s also been pretty consistent for the price with a goal or assist in 15 of the 29 games which is 52%.  His recent form is good with 5 goals in his last 7.  The fixtures are excellent and couldn’t be much better.

His negatives are based around 2 points.  Despite the good bonus collection he’s only in GW1 got more than 1 return in a game which means that he’s only had the 1 double figure point haul.

The 2nd is his underlying stats which are quite frankly terrible and not getting any better.  In his last 10 games he’s only posted stats which are anything like ok twice.  Now,  he has shown an ability to over perform these so if you accept that then there’s no issue.  I find it hard to get my head around the fact that the Burnley trio of strikers in Barnes, Wood and Vokes all have better underlying stats than him.

Son HM

Another player in that group of 6 teams who has a DGW34 and an anticipated DGW37.

So for me, Son has everything except maybe gametime risk through competition which, obviously, is a pretty serious matter.

Lets get the positives over firstly.  2 doubles, probably playing as a striker while Kane is injured, amazing underlying stats, fantastic recent form and 6 double figure FPL point hauls.

When Kane returns he then faces competition from Lamela and Moura for his place and that assumes Poch plays a back 4 and not 3 where Eriksen and Alli could be the only AM’s.  Now when Kane returns is the big question which everyone seems happy to answer except Spurs who have only said he should be back in training in April.  That is quite frankly pathetic but consistent with a club which either deliberately gives false information or just doesn’t have a clue.

Like Man Utd, Chelsea and Southampton the 2nd GW34 fixture is in the midweek before the FA Cup semi final and if Kane is fit then I guess Son could be rested.  However if recent form governs anything,  then it shouldn’t be the case

Firmino

Liverpool are 1 team that has a fixture in GW35 but no doubles.  It does have the complication of UCL quarters before GW33 and GW34 though.  However, 7 points and having played a game more than Chelsea means Liverpool can’t relax for a top 4 place and Firmino is hard to replace.

Firmino has started 27 games plus 3 as sub for 14 goals and 8 assists.  He’s been pretty consistent with 14 returning games out of those 27 for a 52% return rate.  He’s also been explosive as well with 7 double figure FPL point hauls.  No player has more bonus points than his 27 either.

So it’s all good?  The only negative is his underlying stats where he really is over performing which always makes me a tad uncomfortable.  He has shown he can over perform previously but never to anywhere near this extent which is quite extraordinary.  If you’re relaxed about that (which I’m not to be honest) then it’s all good.

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred OUT players so far in the gameweek.

Kane

Now injured although there is some debate as to when as you can see from my commentary on Son above who seems likely to lead the line in his absence.  At this price he’s a difficult person to have in your team even with the uncertainty.

Aguero

Aguero wasn’t part of the Argentinian team that lost 6-1 to Spain and he’s a doubt for City’s match v Everton in GW32.  He also has no DGW34 with only a tricky match v Spurs in that gameweek.  Add to that City’s impending crowning as PL Champions potentially in GW34 and the UCL quarters before GW33 and GW34 and you have someone with some serious gametime risk over the coming weeks.

This, with Jesus now fit, could mean a return to the job share with Jesus and this time Aguero could very well be in the front office of the UCL games with Jesus toiling in the back up areas

J Ayew

Suspended until GW34 Ayew has no DGW34 but a GW35 fixture and an anticipated DGW37.  Will possibly see Abraham take his place as he did for the FA Cup quarter final.  Alternatively Ayew’s brother could take his place for those matches which depending on either of their performances could mean some returning gametime risk for Jordan Ayew.

Ayew does represent a cheap option which, in theory, means he could be held on the bench until GW34.  However, unless you’re trying to cover for GW35 it seems a bit pointless.   He’s started 26 games plus 3 as sub plus the 10 minute sub start in GW30 when he got sent off. He’s scored 6 goals plus 2 assists. His PP90 is poor at 3.5 despite a reasonably healthy bonus total at this price of 10.  I’d question whether that is worth holding onto unless you have a real transfer limitation issue.

Wilson

Another popular player for the blank GW31 now being ditched en masse despite a decent fixture next.  I suspect the fact that he’s blanked in the last 6 and not got out of the 70 minute zone for 3 of those games has something to do with it.  I’d like to say he’s been unlucky over that spell but the underlying stats have been worse than pathetic.  A centre back would be ashamed of these underlying attacking stats.
