fantasy premier league GW33 best defenders and defences

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my view for the fantasy premier league GW33 best defenders and defences. It’s a new format with more info to help you make an assessment for your team. I’ve used a number of stats, actual and underlying. I’ve kept with the blended home and away version rather than splitting them out. There’s also the premium attacking defender and the value defender plus the recent clean sheet form

I’ve provided the information in a very simple table form with a few general notes below and an attempted explanation for any surprises. I’ve tried to sacrifice some value and attacking where there isn’t a decent amount of gametime security. Obviously in the top 4 challenging teams the squad sizes and the number of games sees that rotation can be a risk so it’s impossible to be 100% .

I’ve also added my fixture ease ranking as a proxy for defensive fixtures although it is intended as an attacking fixture check.

The stats are over the season although clean sheets over the last 6 are a proxy for recent form.

In the narrative I’ve tried to deal with a cheapie watch and injury issues which will help you make an assessment on your view of the best transfer. I also touch on the GKs where relevant.

Arsenal – Gabriel really seems to have nailed his spot but you can’t rely on him playing both the doubles with Mertesacker in the wings.

Tottenham – Looking strong defensively and with the title in their sights it is questionable whether rotation will happen.  However only Alderweireld is certain in the back 4.  Dier looks to have cemented a CDM place though and he’s the certain value

Man Utd – Rojo’s half time subbing and terrible performance suddenly puts doubt over him.  Alot depends on whether you think LVG’s jet lag comment is a smoke screen.  Otherwise it’s back to Smalling or  GK DeGea.

Man City – With Kompany injured they are weakened. Otamendi looks the safest but most expensive option. Everyone else is rotatable. Mangala at £5.3m so has started the last 2 and looks the value gamble.    However UCL games could see rotation with Demichelis in any case so no guarantees.

Leicester – Simpson is the cheapie. Then it’s a choice between the attacking potential of Huth and the bonus magnet that is Fuchs

Liverpool – I’m writing this watching the Dortmund EL match with 1 eye.  Impossible to pick anyone that’s rotation free apart from Mignolet.  However a yellow card for Moreno or Lovren will mean no 2nd leg and  a far better chance for gametime security especially if Liverpool go out

Southampton – No value here with any certainty. It’s the £5.5m ish group of VVD, Bertrand and Fonte or no one.

Chelsea – unlucky with the lack of recent clean sheets and should get more. However even the cheap options are expensive

Watford – A solid cheap option with players all at similar prices. No really attacking option though. The GK Gomes is a reasonably priced option

WBA –  Dawson is the limitless funds option. Olsson is the cheapie but dropped at the weekend for Chester so no cheapie option with security.

Everton – GK Robles at £4.3m is the choice here or maybe Jagielka at £5.1m.  Funes Mori dropprf for Stones limites one of the attacking options.

Stoke – Wollscheid seems the nailed cheapie. Everyone else is a little hard to predict. With GK Butland out for the season Haugaard at £4.4m played in GW32

C Palace – It’s the £4.3m Delaney vs the attacking potential of Dann at £5.7m

West Ham – Injuries have confused any cheapie options.

Swansea – Rangel should be the safe £4.1m cheapie but Williams is the bonus point monster and secure gametime option

Bournemouth – It’s the cheapie Francis vs the attacking potential and penalty duties of Daniels

A Villa – An absolute defensive disaster in the worst possible form

Newcastle – GK Darlow is a cheap DGW GK. Conceding 3 goals against Norwich though is a bad sign for amy defence.  No value while Coloccini and Dummett are injured

Sunderland – Finally a clean sheet.   Kone has value and an attacking threat.

Norwich – A more defensive attitude giving solidity seemed to have come off the rails against Newcastle.
