fantasy premier league GW34 review – Saturdays games
At the end of comments on players I’ve added a comment either optimistic or pessimistic based on that performance. It is just that performance and doesn’t take into account on going fixtures etc
Bournemouth 4 Middlesborough 0
Here’s the lineups from the excellent site football-lineups
It’s worth mentioning that this game fundamentally changed with Ramirez’s stupid sending off in the 20th minute. Although it should be recognised that Bournemouth were already 2-0 up
These are the pass and position maps from the great site 11tegen11
and the shot map plus XG also from 11 tegen 11. The shots and XG (expected goals) are from the team attacks perspective over the stats. The higher the XG the better
King
1 goal 83 mins. Continues to play striker even though classified as a midfielder in FPL. Lots of chances and smart finish for the goal close in from a cross. Optimistic
Afobe
1 goal. 90 minutes. Scored after an Arter tackle gifted him a 1 on 1 with the GK. Only had 1 other chance which was a header close in and saved. Optimistic
Negredo
Blanked. 79 mins. Hard to assess when playing 70 minutes with a man down. Did have a couple of shots. The best was a volley from the edge of the area which was unfortunately straight at the GK.
Defences
Middlesboro has had spells of good defending during the year and the return of Chambers was supposed to help solidify them. This game had the sending off which does distort things but the defensive display was a shambles before and after the sending off. I’m not sure how many times Boro have played 3 at the back and whether that hindered the position but it was terrible. Bournemouth were barely troubled.
Hull 2 Watford 0
Again this game was effected by the sending off in the 25th minute of Niasse. The game was 0-0 at the time. The Hull reaction was rather different than the Boro one.
Markovic
1 goal. 81 mins. Hull with only 10 men played this game on the counter attack and Markovic’s pace was crucial to this. He stayed wide right. The goal was a classic counter from a Watford set piece breaking down and Markovic finished a perfect Grosicki cross. Had other chances too. Optimistic
Grosicki
Blanked. 89 mins. Didn’t get credited with an assist which is a shame as it was one of the best crosses you’ll see. Had set piece responsibility. Little goal threat but his overall involvement and creativity is crucial to Hull. Optimistic
Deeney
Blanked. 90 mins. Didn’t really contribute much in what was a poor Watford performance. Little attacking output apart from 1 shot well over the bar from outside the area. Pessimistic
Defences
Considering they were a man down this was a pretty effective backs to the wall performance by Hull and the stats show that they performed well defensively. Watford didn’t give away many chances but they were undone by a fantastic counter attack and a worldie volley from distance from Clucas
Swansea 2 Stoke 0
Llorente
1 goal 58 minutes. This was really the only thing he did in the game although it was a good headed finish from a Sigurdsson corner. Pessimistic
Sigurdsson
1 assist. 90 minutes. Got the assist and had 1 other shot off target. Continues with all set pieces. Probably didn’t do his owners any harm but not the normal high standard he’s set himself. Neutral
Arnautovic
Blanked. 83 mins. Most noted for missing a pen very badly over the crossbar. Had a small amount of chances. Not sure how much 2 strikers playing suits him. Pessimistic.
Defences
This really should have been 0-0 but some sloppy set piece work from Stoke and a massive deflection from a Carroll shot saw Swansea home. The missed Pen was the crucial moment in the game and maybe the season if Swansea survive.
West Ham 0 Everton 0
Lanzini
Blanked 90 mins. This game was the 1 man Lanzini show as he did everything to try and win the game for West Ham. Had a number of chances and set up a number of chances for others. He was also in far more advanced positions than some recent weeks and dominated sett pieces although Snodgrass’s return may change that. Optimistic
Lukaku
Blanked. 90 mins. Did absolutely nothing. Pessimistic although we all know what he can do on his day.
Barkley
Blanked. 90 mins. Did absolutely nothing. Pessimistic
Mirallas
Blanked. 90 mins. Did absolutely nothing. Pessimistic
Defences
If I Koeman can’t explain why Everton were so bad then I’m not going to be able to. West Ham’s defence has been appalling all season and it’s hard to understand how as a team playing against them you can only have 4 shots of which 3 were well outside the area. The Everton defence wasn’t much better and I’m surprised West Ham didn’t score
