GW35 points

So a gameweek I was dreading, due to my defence mainly, could have turned out alot worse.  I was alot more nervous when Gabbiadini went off in the 59th minute having blanked.  That wasn’t helped by Negredo, who had just left my team, romping his way to 11 FPL points against Man City either.  However Kane as the main alternative captain option only getting 5 points minimised that damage.

When 41% of your points have come off 2 players and 63% off 4 the you know you’ve had a lucky week to have got a small red arrow.  To be fair out of a team of 11,  5 players is the most you can ever expect to return so maybe best not to dwell on what was a lucky escape.

I haven’t done the 10 top FPL managers yet but I suspect alot did better who wildcarded this in GW35 mainly due to the Southampton defence.

The captain choice

The gameweek does make me reflect on captain choices.  As you may know in my captain choice article I did alot of data analysing between  Aguero, Gabbiadini and Kane.  In the end I said that if I had Aguero I would have gone with him.  That choice proved correct although Yaya being rested meant Aguero got the pen which was the crucial factor.  Gabbiadini was a 1 point flop and Kane got 5 points after scoring a pen.

When the captain choice is tight that’s when you need the analysis.  However, often the analysis forces you to choose between less than ideal options.  For example Kane had an ordinary record at home against the top 7 but Arsenal conceded alot of goals against the top 7.  Kane was in great form assured of playing 90 minutes.  So not perfect but only the 1 negative of top 7 scores.

Gabbiadini was playing the worst defensive team away which was his main advantage.  He did have some good stats actual and underlying but his gametime as a sub possibility was poor as were Southampton’s results at home against the poorer sides.

Looking at that I should have gone for Kane.  Maybe subconsciously I didn’t want to change at the last minute in case I was burned.  Anyway you live and learn.  I do believe that the analysis I do is valid though.  It was a poor interpretation.

Bye Bye Siggy

The perfect midfielder with an advanced position, all set pieces and penalties in an imperfect team of Swansea.  To be fair he needs to produce better underlying shooting stats to be completely perfect.

He left the FFGeek team as he has no DGWs and I was sad to see him go.  What better way to sign off though with a fantastic free kick and 10 points.

Even if Swansea go down I’m sure we’ll see him in the premier league somewhere else.

The alternate FFGeek teams

You may or may not read my alternate FFGeek teams articles where I have 2 experimental teams which play purely by formula.  1 is based on bookies odds and the other on the shots on target stat.

I thought I would give an honourable mention to the FFGeek bookies team which had a storming week with 77 and is up to 12k overall rank.  I must admit I enjoy doing the teams so much as it’s a team without fear playing totally by formula.  The interesting thing is that the team value is only £100.5m.  Shows that TV isn’t everything.  However, it will be wildcarding this week and then I imagine the team value will cause issues.

The team based on the shots on target stat was less successful but had a respectable score of 61 and is slowly creeping up to an overall rank of 171k

The wildcard team won’t be shown though until Friday

Here’s the gameweek score of 77 from the bookies team:

Looking ahead to DGW36

As you may have seen I’m wildcarding for DGW36 with the intention of bench boosting in DGW37.  Here’s the link to my latest wildcard update article and a wildcard crib sheet article you may find useful.

At the moment I’m trying to make a decision as to whether it’s worth the sacrifices to keep Dele Alli in the team.  The wildcard team will keep changing as information comes around during the week.  For example if Aguero is out for the season not only does that make Jesus more secure it also lessens the risk of Sane being out of the team.  If Bailly isn’t injured then that strengthens the defence making Blind a better option.  Any changes I make will go on twitter at the minimum.

Not much else to say without repeating myself from the wildcard articles. I would normally show you the team as a lineup but that isn’t possible this week as the wildcard team isn’t in draft.  I’ve just reacted a few price rises and falls.

Articles to come and a Friday gameweek

The plan is to do the normal articles. I’d like to do a team focus article on Arsenal and Southampton but with the gameweek coming early on Friday evening at 19.00 UK time that may not be possible.

Here’s the DGW36 fixtures:
