fantasy premier league GW35 transfers – the bandwagons and sinking ships

bandwagons and sinking ships, Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW35 transfers article where we outline and give a view on the most transferred in players so far in the gameweek (the bandwagons) and the most transferred out (the sinking ships). There’s a table of stats on each as well as some narrative on their prospects and their upcoming fixtures

fantasy premier league GW35 transfers – the bandwagons and sinking ships

It’s important to note that this article was written on Wednesday so stats and narrative is without the information from Wednesday and Thursdays DGW34 games.  If you make a transfer of a player who is yet to play you obviously face an increased risk of him getting injured.

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred IN players so far in the gameweek. The fixture ease is for the next 4 gameweeks to the end of the season .  See our latest fixture ease article. The fixtures also take into account the double gameweeks. Here’s the link to our original article on the double gameweeks  for some context

KANE

I thought the Spurs forward was pretty quiet in the FA Cup semi against Chelsea but there was no doubt that given the opportunities he can finish.  His goal was sublime in that game.  Interestingly he seems an early favourite in the captain polls I’ve seen for GW35.  Thats a testament to his form given that Arsenal are the opposition.  He’s the top FPL points per match player and his last 4 home starts have seen the following FPL points 12, 13, 20 and 6.  I’m probably most surprised that there are as many active FPL managers  without him

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Arsenal (H)
West Ham (A)
Man Utd (H) DGW37
Leicester (A) DGW37
Hull (A)

Rashford

The Man Utd forward has come to our attention principally through his goal and performance in the win over Chelsea and getting the winner against Anderlecht. The season ending injury to Ibrahimovic has also meant a vacancy at centre forward and the Chelsea and Anderlecht performance installed him as favourite to fill it.   He’s played a number of positions this season, however, the majority not as a central striker.  In terms of stats, 5 goals and 2 assists in 1475 minutes at a goal or assist every 210 minutes isn’t anything to write home about and neither is his FPL point every 22 minutes on the pitch. However given his age there is likely to be an upward trajectory as he gains experience and alot of that would have been accrued not as a central striker.

However that probably isn’t the fundamental issue.  The fundamental issue is that of gametime.  Owners were certainly burned by him being on the bench for the weekend game against Burnley.  The performance of Rooney and Martial with a goal apiece in the win over Burnley certainly didn’t help Rashford’s cause.  Neither has Man Utd’s progression in the Europa League meaning that the rotation risk most likely will continue.

No one can predict Mourinho.  The Rashford transfer may very well work out and if you’re going to gamble then home to Swansea is a good time to do it.  I’d probably wait to see if there are any clues in the Manchester Derby match on Thursday personally at least before I took the gamble though.

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Spurs (A) DGW37
Southampton (A) DGW37
Crystal Palace (H)

 BENTEKE

5 goals and 1 assist in his last 5 games and returning a goal or assist in 4 of those games have been a massive transformation for the Crystal Palace striker.  Prior to that he had gone 5 consecutive games blanking and had 1 goal (the only returning game) in 13 games.  The good news is that the improvement isn’t built on sand and his underlying stats have massively improved over the recent upturn.  The player himself has also spoke of feeling less isolated with more support from Townsend and Zaha.

Certainly a home game against Burnley is a great place to pick up a transfer.  He is home to Spurs tonight so I would at least wait until he comes through that unscathed.

Only reservation is no double gameweek to come and 2 of the 4 fixtures aren’t exactly easy.

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Burnley (H)
Man City (A)
Hull (H)
Man Utd (A)

King

The Bournemouth FPL midfielder playing as a striker has to be one of the bargains of the season.  Over the period of 13 games since he came into the team and started he’s got an incredible 11 goals and 1 assist.  His underlying stats are good too.  They’re not Aguero good which is probably what they should be for that return but they are good.

Sunderland next is certainly a good entry point to buy him.  He has no double gameweek which is the only negative but his fixtures to the end of the season couldn’t be much better

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Sunderland (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)

Costa

Amazing what a couple of goals can do.  The Chelsea striker, after being in the sinking ships most transferred out for the last 2 game weeks suddenly finds himself in the most transferred in category in less than 24 hours.

To be fair it wasn’t a Benteke type meltdown he went through although it was only 1 returning game (a 2 assists game mind) in the 5 games before last night.  However, at his price, with the number of alternatives, FPL managers are always going to get twitchy.  The underlying stats hadn’t really dropped off that much so there was always a decent prospect it was going to come back.

Everton away next isn’t the easiest fixture but apart from that the fixtures couldn’t be much better

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Everton (A)
Middlesbrough (H)
West Brom (A) DGW37
Watford (H) DGW37
Sunderland (H)

THE SINKING SHIPS

*  Gibson and Cahill are clean sheet odds for GW35

IBRAHIMOVIC

The Man Utd striker is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.  Could see rotation with United still in the Europa League between Rashford, Martial and Rooney for the CF spot.  Rashford is discussed in the bandwagons above.

Lukaku

I know it was a pretty poor display by the Everton striker and Everton themselves in the 0-0 draw with West Ham but I’m not sure he deserved this.  He is the leading goal scorer with 24 goals and prior to the West Ham game had scored 3 goals in the previous 2 games.

However Chelsea as your next opponent is always going to be a handy exit point although Lukaku will be desperate to prove them wrong and maybe even as a possible transfer target for next season.

His main negative though is that it’s alot of money to have tied up in someone with no double gameweek.  £6.1m is one thing with great fixtures for Josh King.  £10.5m with 2 ordinary fixtures and 2 good ones is quite another.

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Chelsea (H)
Swansea (A)
Watford (H)
Arsenal (A)

Negredo

The transfer out of the Middlesborough forward irrespective of what happens tonight is something I can understand.  .  He maybe playing his former club in GW35 so will have a point to prove but it’s hard to imagine a trickier run in for a guy with pretty mixed form over the season to say the least.

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Man City (H)
Chelsea (A)
Southampton (H)
Liverpool (A)

Gibson

Even before the mindless sending off by Ramirez Middlesborough were 2 goals down to Bournemouth at that 20 minute stage.  5 clean sheets in the last 14 would translate would translate to 13 clean sheets over the season which for a team new to the premier league would have been quite remarkable.  However Karanka had provided a stern defence completely at the sacrifice of attacking output.  Agnew has struggled to produce either.  Certainly the Bournemouth game before and after the sending off was shambolic.  Even forgetting that though the fixtures are terrible and home to Man City is a great exit point

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Man City (H)
Chelsea (A)
Southampton (H)
Liverpool (A)

Cahill

I imagine most of these were done before the Chelsea CB  scored last night.  He has been an injury doubt so it is less surprising for that fact.  Only Mr goalscoring defender ” I score with my hair” Gareth McAuley has more goals and Cahill now has the same as his LB team mate Alonso.  Surprising that as apart from in 2009/10 when he scored 5 he’s never got more than 3 in a season.

There could be worse times  to ditch him than away to Everton and Chelsea haven’t got a clean sheet since GW22 but they do have great fixtures and their defensive stats despite the drought are still good

Fixtures from GW35 to the end of the season:

Everton (A)
Middlesbrough (H)
West Brom (A) DGW37
Watford (H) DGW37
Sunderland (H)
