fantasy premier league GW36 – the FFGeek imaginary wildcard

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW36 article where we pretend we have a wildcard to use.  Hopefully you’ve used yours by now though.  This is more to look at a selection of players which gives you a longer view than just the next gameweek

fantasy premier league GW36 – our imaginary wildcard

Well this was one of the trickiest imaginary wildcard article I’ve done with a number of difficult decisions.  Firstly here’s the team:

fpl.gw36imagWC2

Goalkeeper

Ospina – I’ve gone for Ospina as the safest 2 game bet in the Arsenal defence for the doublegameweek 37 without having to pay for the £6.0m .  Only WBA Liverpool Southampton and Chelsea have got more clean sheets this season and with good fixtures I went for some representation of the Arsenal defence.  I did think of a team with 3 Arsenal attackers but thats probably too bold a move for me.

Swansea (H)
DGW37 Man Utd (A)
DGW37 Sunderland (H)
West Brom (H)

Davis  – Is just cheap Southampton defence coverage although unlikely to be used

Leicester (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Man City (A)

Defence

Terry – I’ve kept Terry in as Mourinho has hinted that Terry and Ivanovic may keep playing to the end of the season.  Chelsea have the most clean sheets with 17 and the least goals conceded.  They’re not too bad defensive fixtures as well which means that it’s worth covering the highest ownership defence

Liverpool (H)
West Brom (A)
Sunderland (H)

Vlaar – The Villa CB may not play in the strongest defensive team although 2 clean sheets in the last 7 isn’t terminal.  He is cheap though and they do have good fixtures starting with a fairly anaemic West Ham team in GW36

West Ham (H)
Southampton (A)
Burnley (H)

Stones – With Sunderland and West Ham next it’s 2 reasonable defensive fixtures for the Everton CB.  4 clean sheets in the last 7 is good defensive form.  10 clean sheets for the season is 8th equal and not bad considering their defensive disaster of a start.  Stones has little attacking form but is the cheapest guaranteed starter in what is a fairly expensive defence otherwise

Sunderland (H)
West Ham (A)
Spurs (H)

Van Aanholt – There for Sunderlands double gameweek 37 and his attacking threat with 5 assists.   Sunderlands defensive form though is pretty ordinary as they’ve only got 1 clean sheet in 5 since the new manager joined.  General fixtures aren’t easy thats for sure

Everton (A)
DGW37 Leicester (H)
DGW37 Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (A)

Mangala – QPR next is almost enough of an incentive alone to draft in the City defender.  With Kompany out for the season he should also hold his place.  I would have preffered Kolarov but he has more gametime risk.  2 clean sheets in the last 3 and 12 overall show they aren’t the defensive disaster people think.  Good defensive fixtures

QPR (H)
Swansea (A)
Southampton (H)

The midfield

I haven’t put Hazard in my imaginary wildcard article as there are pictures of him taking a break at a seaside location which definitely wasn’t Brighton. This does throw obvious questions on whether he will start further games given that he’s started every premier league game this season.   A big gamble given his ownership but helped by the next fixture against Liverpool.

Silva – This is about the next fixture especially with QPR at home as he hasn’t got great form recommendation with 2 assists in his last 4.  His consistency return rate of 48% is ok.   The underlying shooting and creating stats have really dropped off in the last 4 games but anything could happen against QPR as they need to win

QPR (H)
Swansea (A)
Southampton (H)

Adam – A bit of a punt but 2 fixtures against pretty ordianry defences in Spurs and Burnley next.  3 goals and an assist in his last 6 is good form.  His season return of an FPL point every 16.5 minutes is excellent.  He’s been a sub so much that you can’t look at his return consistency but when playing 45 minutes or more he’s returned a goal or assist in 7/15 games (47%), exceptional for the price.

Spurs (H)
Burnley (A)
Liverpool (H)

Gomez – just in for his pen duties and the Sunderland double gameweek.  Apart from his 2 goals last week has barely been able to get into the side let alone produce any returns.  His season return of an FPL point every 24 minutes says it all

Everton (A)
DGW37 Leicester (H)
DGW37 Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (A)

Sanchez  – I wrote quite a bit in my bandwagons and sinking ships article so here it is.  2 goals away to Hull in GW35 for the £11.3m Arsenal midfielder after 4 blank games out of 5 prior to that(admittedly with 13 FPL points in the middle of that run) has seen the transfers piling up.  A consistency return rate of 47% could be better for the price but he’s still miles ahead of the other Arsenal midfielders in that stat.  He also has the overall best underlying shooting and creating chances stats of any midfielder as well as the advanced position.  The only negative (apart from the price) is whether he gets rested if Arsenal have nothing to play for.  A first season with no winter break and words about rest at various times from Wenger does mean that rest could be an issue.  Incredible fixtures and a double gameweek coming up.  Can really score big at anytime and if you’re going to get him home to Swansea next is the time to do it

Swansea (H)
DGW37 Man Utd (A)
DGW37 Sunderland (H)
West Brom (H)

Mirallas – Another punt. 2 goals in his last 3 games is the form and also has 3 good attacking fixtures to come.  Game time is an issue but surely the form should help him.  A season return of an FPL point every 16.9 minutes is very good for the price.  Again sub appearances make consistency difficult.  8 returns out of 17 games ( 47%) when playing more than 45 minutes is also good.  Gametime is the risk unfortunately as for some reason Osman could get the nod.

Sunderland (H)
West Ham (A)
Spurs (H)

The forwards

Aguero – hopefully I don’t need to justify this pick

QPR (H)
Swansea (A)
Southampton (H)

Giroud  – Although only 1 goal and no assists in his last 4 his consistency rate of 54% for the season is very good and way better than the midfield options.  Underlying stats over the season have been very good even if they have dropped off in the last 4.  The fixtures and the midfield service should see returns

Swansea (H)
DGW37 Man Utd (A)
DGW37 Sunderland (H)
West Brom (H)

Kane – The last choice was between Kane and Benteke.  Despite only 1 goal and no assists in his last 5 and very little in the way of underlying shooting stats his season returns and consistency are both excellent.  The fixtures are reasonable and the ownership very high.  So I’ve stick with him for the moment

Stoke (A)
Hull (H)
Everton (A)
