Kane

2 goals in his last 3 games (depending on your view of the Stoke “goal”) 7 shots and some good xG figures tend to be clouded over by quiet games against the 2 Manchester sides in the league and FA Cup respectively as well as criticism that he’s come back too quickly after injury by some pundits.  However 25 goals and 2 assists in 31 starts and 2 sub appearances with a PP90 of 6.3 and 8 double figure FPL point hauls speak for themselves.

STERLING

Sterling has started 26 games plus 4 as a sub and scored 18 goals and 14 assists in an incredible season.  The tap in goal v Swansea at the weekend said everything about his ability to get onto the box in goal scoring positions.  His underlying stats, 2nd only to Salah as a midfielder show this season is no fluke.

If he was guaranteed to play the rest of the games in the season he would be on e of the first players on our FPL teamsheet.

However the situation isn’t that straightforward.  This season De Bruyne, Otamendi, Ederson, Walker and Fernandinho have played the most minutes with Sterling next on the list.

The game against Swansea, a celebration of the title win at home, saw Otamendi, Walker and Sane rested with De Bruyne and Sterling subbed off early.

It’s inconceivable that there won’t be some sort of rest related rotation for Man City in their last 4 games it’s just a question of who and how many.  Only Pep knows the answer unfortunately.  However given the early substitution v Swansea, his ranking on minutes played and the plethora of alternative options then it’s difficult to see that he won’t be rested for at least 1 game if not 2.

It’s just whether you think he will score more points in that time and the strength of your bench as it’s worth noting that none of the 3 rested first teamers played any minutes.

JESUS

Jesus has started 16 games plus 9 as sub for 11 goals and 7 assists. He’s returned a goal or assist in a pretty impressive 14 of those games.  Despite an ok bonus total of 14 he’s only managed 2 double figure hauls and the surprising penalty duties he was handed v Swansea are possibly in jeopardy after his miss.

The Aguero injury, which looks like it’s season ending, does make him more certain than any of the other first teamers to play minutes to the end of the season.  That alone possibly justifies his selection although Pep isn’t the most predictable person and a false 9 scenario, without Jesus, wouldn’t be out of the question.

Eriksen

With 4 games to go Spurs are only 5 points ahead of Chelsea.  Spurs playing on Monday will know the outcome of Chelsea’s match at Swansea on the Saturday.  So, unless Chelsea drop points,  at least in the short term then there appears little rest related rotation risk for the Spurs play maker.  Out of all the Spurs AM’s his set pieces and creative ability make him, arguably, the hardest to rest as well.

His recent form is good with 4 goals and an assist in his last 5 games.  Over the season he’s been no slouch either with 11 goals plus 9 assists in 33 starts.  He’s returned a goal or assist in 18 of those games which is a reasonable 55% although 4 double figure point hauls when you have 23 bonus points is a little shy of what you’d hope for.

Smalling

The Man Utd CB seems to have passed every selection test in the debate over who the first choice CBs are out of himself, Jones, Bailly, Rojo and Lindelof.  With them all now fit it seems the question is who will partner Smalling rather than whether he is the first choice.

It’s difficult to believe that United won’t get a top 4 place which could lead to some rotation given the number of options Mourinho has and the FA Cup final ahead.  That has to be offset though, to some extent, by the desire to finish 2nd.  None of these things are predictable you just have to weigh up the risks vs the rewards.

Smalling to me is more of a “double up” option as De Gea for me is the most secure and logical defensive option.   It’s hard to see De Gea being rested given that his cover of Romero is injured with an unknown return date

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred OUT players so far in the gameweek.

fantasy premier league GW36 TRANSFER TIPS

Aubameyang

Arsenal, with no chance of making the top 4, have prioritised winning the Europa League as a vehicle for a UCL place next season.  After, seemingly, being the only player that you could rely on starting in an Arsenal shirt due to his ineligibility to play in competition his benching at the weekend has obviously caused a number of FPL managers to transfer him out.  An away game to Man Utd looks the perfect opportunity.  There is also some concern over positioning with Lacazette also being a CF.  Wenger has stationed Aubameyang into a wide position when they have both been on the pitch.

However that game will be sandwiched between the 2 semi final ties and in theory should be the perfect time for him to start.

6 goals and 3 assists in games goals plus 1 sub appearance though is a pretty good start to life in the PL.   After the Man Utd game the fixtures are good too.  He also should have penalty duties.

Alonso

The Chelsea LWB was suspended for 3 games for his stamp v Southampton.  The last game of the suspension is GW36.  Hard to say who will take his place but it will be either LB Emerson or versatile FB Zappacosta.

It would be a surprise if he doesn’t come back into the side for DGW37 given the minutes he’s played to date and the rest will also assist the prospect of him playing 2 games in DGW37 although it’s hard to see a clean sheet coming v Liverpool.

An undoubted attacking force who seemingly spends more time in the opponents penalty area than his own it’s a surprise to me the level of sales.  Chelsea have good defensive underlying stats although it’s now 7 games since a clean sheet.  That doesn’t inspire a great deal of defensive comfort at the moment.

Firmino

This can only be related to gametime as no one in their right mind would take him out before a home game to Stoke for any other reason.

If you’ve got Firmino in your team I would bet you also have Salah and this is about how much gametime risk you can take with 2 Liverpool players.  There is a twitter account which seems to be accurately predicting (ie leaking) the Liverpool lineups which will hopefully tell us whether he will be rested or not for the Stoke game.   He was left out last week for the WBA game and the Everton game so he definitely is a target for rest.

I personally would question the timing of a sale before such a plum fixture.  At least wait for more information, either twitter or press conference wise.

36 Stoke (H)
37 Chelsea (A)
38 Brighton (H)

Otamendi

Only Kevin De Bruyne has played more minutes for Man City this season than Otamendi.  You either think that will trigger more rest related rotation or think that as he’s only played 22 minutes in the last 2 PL matches that he’s inline for more minutes in the last 4 games.  Only Pep knows the answer to this question but with Kompany, Laporte and maybe Stones if fit as CB’s and even the possibility of young CB Adarabioyo been given a PL debut,  I personally would be surprised if any defender plays both DGW37 games.

Sane

Rested in GW35 v Swansea ironically could make him more likely to play in GW36.  I’d be amazed if there’s not some rotation in the Man City side given what happened v Swansea it’s just the extent that’s unknown.  Away to West Ham may help but the Swansea game could be the template with a few players resting and rotating.  Only David Silva of the recognised AMs has played less minutes and that coupled with the Swansea rest has to put him up there with the players that could potentially play the most.
