FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW37 PLAYER PICKS BY ROB REID (THE FPL VET)

Hi and welcome to Gameweek 37 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll review my picks each week, with the Banker being reviewed over 4 weeks and the Joker and Ace on an individual weekly basis. However, for the last 3 gameweeks of the season there will be no further Banker picks. Instead, for GWs 36,37, & 38 regular contributors Joe and Alex will be providing a Guest Pick each week along with a Guest Pick from The Geek himself. Wish us luck, here goes!

Gameweek 36 Review

GW33 Banker – Dele Alli

GW33 – 6 points (1 assist, 1 bonus point)

GW34 – 2 points

GW35 – Blank

GW36 – 8 points (1 goal, midfield clean sheet) – A well taken goal made it a profitable week for Alli owners and he looks a good pick for Spurs’ DGW37. Would certainly be holding if he was in my aquad.

GW34 Banker – David De Gea

GW34 – 9 points (Game 1: 1 save point, 1 goal conceded; Game 2 – clean sheet)

GW35 – Blank

GW36 – 2 points (1 goal conceded) – A frustrating week for De Gea owners as United conceded to an under-strength Arsenal. Will be in many squads this week though (over 44% to be precise) so will hurt non-owners if he returns away to Brighton or West Ham.

GW35 Banker – Ederson

GW35 – 6 points (clean sheet)

GW36 – 2 points (1 goal conceded) – City have been guilty this season of getting sloppy at the back when they have their boot on the opposition’s throat. GW36 was another to add to this list. Great double this week versus Huddersfield and Brighton though, surely going to get a least 1 clean sheet out of these!

GW36 Ace – Harry Kane

6 points (1 goal) – Still looks a bit short of his best but did still rack up a number of goal attempts in the game and will still be hungry to hunt down rival Mo Salah in the Golden Boot race. Will be heavily backed as a captain pick this week.

GW36 Joker – Jordan Ayew

2 points – Swansea are still struggling for goals and must find their shooting boots in the 3 vital fixtures that finish the season. They still have to play relegation rivals Stoke and Southampton, so fixtures are set as fair as they can be for the Swans and Ayew.

Joe’s GW36 Guest Pick – Dusan Tadic

15 points (2 goals, 3 bonus points).  An inspired pick as the enigmatic Serb bagged 2 goals and the full compliment of bonus points. Saints badly needed the win and will now carry form into their GW37 double. Could be some more returns on the horizon for Tadic, who looks a tidy differential.

Alex’s GW36 Guest Pick – Ayoze Perez

2 points.  Perhaps The Magpies are in beach mode as they looked a bit off the pace against relegation fodder West Brom. Has a double this week, but rotation from Rafa must also start to be a worry at this stage as well.

The Geek’s GW36 Guest Pick – Gabriel Jesus

9 points (1 goal, 3 bonus points).  A nice finish for City’s 3rd goal and a full rack of bonus points for the Brazilian. He looks a good pick for the rest of the season – arguably the most secure City attacking player with Aguero’s EPL season over with injury.

Gameweek 37 Picks

Ace – Gabriel Jesus (MCI £10.4m) HUD/BRI

The Geek’s Guest Pick last week is my Ace this week as City look to end the season in style. They have a dream double with 2 home fixtures to struggling sides and with 12 goals in their last 3 victories you just wouldn’t bet against them going big in both games. The only question mark is rotation, but as mentioned above Jesus is probably the most secure attack option and also seems to like getting bonus points. He’ll be a difficult player not to own this week!

Joker – Jan Vertonghen – (TOT £6.0m) – wba/NEW

I fancy Spurs to pick up 2 clean sheets in GW37 against teams that are struggling for goals and Vertonghen looks the most secure way into their defence, not counting keeper Hugo Lloris. He was excellent against Watford on Monday and was unlucky to bag a couple of assists. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if he accumulates a double figure haul this gameweek which would please the 9.5% of managers who currently own him.

Joe’s Guest Pick – Ilkay Gundogan (MCI £5.4m) – HUD/BRI

For this week’s double, I have elected to go for Gundogan who is a player that I have admired ever since a fantastic performance from him in a Champions League semi-final a few years ago. I had the unfortunate pleasure of watching him during City’s recent trip to Wembley where I thought he was sensational throughout, providing the platform for a number of his side’s attacks as they tore through Spurs at times.

From an FPL perspective, he scored a penalty in that game and following Jesus’ miss against Swansea, there’s a chance that he may reclaim those duties. Of course, there is a risk that he may not start both games, but with Silva’s unfortunate absence due to personal reasons, it’s not unfeasible that he could start both matches. Regardless, I think that it’s best to not attempt to second-guess Guardiola and the German could be a great cheap enabler at 5.4mil with City’s fantastic DGW37 fixtures.

Alex’s Guest Pick – Wilfred Zaha (CRY £7.0m) – sto

A risky one this week as my man doesn’t have a double game week but he does have form! Wilfried Zaha has the most goals for midfielders over the last four (four) and one assist. Over the last four, Zaha has the third most penalty area touches with 32 behind Salah (34) and Sterling (40). And it’s not just goal scoring. Zaha is tied with Pogba for big chances created over the last four with three a piece.

Crystal Palace have had 22 shots on target which is joint second with Southampton and behind only Manchester City on 31. Palace play Stoke (a) and WBA (h) in the next two, both are showing some form but you wouldn’t bet against Zaha who has been given the central striker role over the last three. And all this for only 7mill!

The Geek’s Guest Pick – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ARS £10.7m) BUR/lei

Aubameyang has scored 6 goals and 3 assists in his 9 games plus 1 sub appearance since his January transfer to Arsenal from Dortmund. He’s been consistent returning a goal or assist in 7 of the 10 games. He’s also played 90 minutes in 8 of those starts. It seems that he also has penalty duties.

He’s the only player in the squad ineligible for the Europa League. Irrespective of the outcome of Thursdays semi so you have to give him a strong chance of playing 2 games as CF over DGW37.

The first game of DGW37 is home to Burnley and will be Arsene Wenger’s last home game so it’s hard to believe that Wenger won’t play a strong supporting side Aubameyang. Away to Leicester will be a harder to predict lineup but Aubameyang will be one of the few first choice players who shouldn’t need a rest

That’s it from me on Player Picks. Good luck this week everyone!
