FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW38 HINTS – ANALYSING 10 TOP FPL MANAGERS – UPDATED

To make it easier to read I’ve added in the new narrative in Italics to save you reading the whole thing if you don’t want to.

The changes are mainly in the gameweek review section but I’ve also updated the highest and lowest scorers plus the celebrity manager section

The top 10 FPL managers stats

The stats of the top 10 managers are incredible again.

1. The overall average finishing position of the top 10 managers is 2,943

3. 9 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000

Gameweek review

A good week for the top 10 FPL managers. 9 of the 10 had green arrows.

The average score of the managers in DGW37 was 167 compared to the average of 81. Thats 86 points and 106% above the average score. The high score of the 10 was 194. The low score was 136. A big spread of 58 for a very high scoring gameweek.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers improved by 23k to 51k compared to the last gameweek of 74k. The best rank is now, incredibly, in the top 10 and the lowest 258k. If you calculated the median rank then that improved to 17k compared to 27k last gameweek. An improvement of rank of 10k. At the moment 8 have overall ranks inside 100k. 4 are inside the top 10k.

The manager in the top 10 is 50 points behind the leader so can’t realistically win it btw

The average value sees an improvement to £105.9m up from £105.7m in the last gameweek.

If you’re interested my score was an good one at 178. I had a higher score than 7 of the managers. My overall rank is now 22k compared to 48k last gameweek. An improvement of rank of 26k. I’m ahead of 4 of the top 10 managers. My team value is low in comparison at £103.1m. An improvement from the last gameweek at £102.9m. My total points are 2,181.

fantasy premier league GW38 hints - analysing 10 top FPL managers - updated

The average points scored of the top 10k was 146 compared to the top FPL managers of 167

They have some big differences (30% difference is the benchmark) with the top 10k rank.

The top 10k don’t favour any player more significantly than the top 10 managers I follow.

The 10 Managers I follow favour the following more significantly than the top 10k

Only GKs and Defenders: Pickford, Caballer, Yoshida, Stephens, Holgate and Vertonghen

Focus on 1 managers team

Again we focus on the managers team who last season finished the highest of my then top 10 FPL managers ending up in 1,400th position. This manager is the closest thing to a fantasy football celebrity there is due to his consistent results so we’ll keep an eye on him.

Here’s his team.  It was a disappointing result of 136 and resulted in him being the only red arrow and the lowest scorer of the 10 managers.  His rank dropped to 16k and it now seems difficult to get into the top 10k.   No Kane is the obvious omission

Just to give you a bit of context his last 3 years overall rankings have been 1,450, 277 and 90.

Highest gameweek scorer

194  points with bench boost used. Overall rank in the top 500

Lowest gameweek scorer

137 points with bench boost used.  Overall rank is 258k. He’s the lowest apart from the celebrity manager who has 136

When I compare teams scores the reasons for a difference are normally

  1.  Defence
  2. Captain pick
  3. 1 or 2 players.

Defence and captain weren’t a factor in comparing the highest scorer and the lowest scorer of the celebrity manager.

Firstly there’s a big team value difference of £6m.  Kane over Costa was 29 points difference.  Half the difference in 1 player.  Hazard over KDB 10 points and Ozil over Alli 8 points.  3 attacking players made 47 of the 58 points. 2 attacking players 39 of the 58 points.

Top 10 FPL managers combined team

Here’s a team to represent the top 10 managers. The value is around £107.0m

Interestingly only 2 changes from my team

There is a real similarity to all the 10 managers teams at the moment. Here are the core players who are in more than 50% of the 10 managers teams are Caballero, Pickford, Stephens, Alonso, Yoshida, Holgate, Hazard, Alli, Sanchez, King, Jesus, Gabbiadini and Kane. Incredibly 13 players.

If you cross reference this with the top 10k managers with players over 50% then by that definition King, Alli, Sanchez, Hazard, and Alonso become essential

What an insane double gameweek! Started off with me cursing Holgate being subbed but ended up with 164 and me being 50 points clear in my mini league from around 30 behind. Improved my rank to 69k. If i keep this rank it’ll be 3rd season doing FPL and steadily improving each time. Long way off the magical 10k mark though.

Sanchez, Kane, jesus all delivering well (although Jesus was captain costing me a really good score) and all defenders with a clean sheet in one game or the other (except Holgate). Hazard and Gabbi big disappointment and couldn’t afford Sane so ended up with Albrighton as 5th Mid. 20 points from bench boost in total.

Looking at Hazard > Coutinho and Gabbi>Giroud with my final 2 free transfers. Hopefully that sees me through. Waiting on chelsea press conference though.

    Great article as always!

I have a question, my All Out Attack (AOA) and Triple Captain (TC) chips are still available for me to use. I don’t really see the AOA chip as that much of an advantage (it may even be a negative!), so will probably use my TC for GW38… unless anyone disagrees with me and recommends using the AOA chip instead.

    Thanks in advance.

    • MrCB

In My Opinion, AOA is only really useful if you’ve got defensive injuries/frailties or a particularly strong 5th mid, and you take a punt 1 week to save a transfer.
As per TC… Who are you thinking of putting it on?

    • Jako

Gotta use Triple Captain this week for sure.

Just use the AOA during the season, when needed, at a time when there is an advantage for your team (or to avoid taking a hit etc.). Otherwise it is mostly useless (for improving your score anyway).

      cheers

Well based on the top managers and a few of your scores, I had a poor week with just 139 points after DGW37. Even made mention of NOT including Sanchez in my DGW36 plans, “The exclusion of Sanchez doesn’t come without risk…” Well I risked it with Hazard and…well we saw the outcome. But it’s been that sort of season, so I don’t feel bad I missed out on his points.

I captained Jesus (38 points) and had Kane yesterday (31 points), which really helped me out late in the week. Some what discouraged not to see Eriksen play and Costa/Hazard with no returns. Thankfully 22 points from the bench boost did help.
