fantasy premier league GW38 transfers – the bandwagons and sinking ships

bandwagons and sinking ships, Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW38 transfers article where we outline and give a view on the most transferred in players so far in the gameweek (the bandwagons) and the most transferred out (the sinking ships). There’s a table of stats on each as well as some narrative on their prospects and their upcoming fixture

Rather than put the fixtures below the player with only 1 fixture to go I’ll put them here and then repeat them in the narrative

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred IN players so far in the gameweek.

I’ve used returns on a per minute basis. FPL mins per point means how many minutes does it take to earn an FPL point. The lower the better obviously.

Coutinho

Without the injured Firmino and Mane, Liverpool manager Kloop took the unusual step of a midfield diamond behind 2 strikers against West Ham in DGW37.  Surprisingly Coutinho seemed to play on the left of the diamond rather than the tip although it didn’t prevent him getting 2 goals and an assist and 19 FPL points.  The guy shot from everywhere against a team where the word pathetic would have been a compliment. Next up he has relegated Middlesborough who’s last away performance against Chelsea could have been any score.

Liverpool have maximum incentive as it’s likely they will need maximum points to secure a Champions League spot for next season.  Coutinho’s form while on the pitch has been excellent and he’s even tried over the season to temper himself shooting from anywhere as his underlying stats are generally very good.  With 12 goals and 8 assists he has a chance to join the “double double” club.

Looks like the early captain favourite for the gameweek too

Llorente

The Swansea striker has stepped up when needed to keep Swansea in the premier league.  I’d be surprised if he doesn’t play in the last home game of the season given that managers previous to Clement didn’t exactly over use him.  However, with the pressure off after such a long intense period with it on it’s debatable what performance we will see against WBA.  14 goals and 2 assists in a near relegated side, considering rather mixed minutes, is a good return for the price.  Underlying stats are pretty ordinary is the negative on him.

Jesus

Interestingly the young Brazilian striker took the penalty against Leicester while Yaya Toure was on the pitch.  It will be interesting to see what will happen if Aguero is on the pitch and Man City get a penalty.  At the moment his returns are nothing short of phenomenal although he couldn’t have had better opponents.  His underlying stats over the season ,albeit on limited minutes, are pretty good.

However he was pretty quiet against Leicester on the weekend with very little attacking threat.  He was also relatively quiet in only getting an assist in the 5-0 hammering of Palace.  While there’s alot of hype around him I still think there’s more data to collect.  However you can’t argue with the fixture.  Away to Watford is a good time to jump on the bandwagon.  City could have effectively sealed a UCL spot by the time GW38 kicks off but they will want to seal 3rd definitely.  That means Jesus is pretty certain to play, even in the unknown world of Pep.

Giroud

If Jesus was pretty certain to start then anything could happen with Giroud.  You’d think that 2 goals would make a big difference to his selection prospects but the last time he scored 2 goals he didn’t start for 8 games afterwards.  Anyone of Welbeck, Walcott or Sanchez could suddenly be in the striker seat.  It would even surprise me if forgotten man Perez started.  Thats Giroud’s only issue as his form and underlying stats are very good.  The fixture though against Everton could be easier

Kane

With 2nd place sewn up then there is no need for Kane to play the last 2 games of the season.  However as I write this Spurs have 2 games to go and Kane is 2 goals behind Lukaku in the golden boot race.  Kane’s form and underlying stats have been excellent and he also has pens in his armoury.  The last fixture against relegated Hull is a good one even with their excellent home record under Marco Silva

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred OUT players so far in the gameweek.

I’ve used returns on a per minute basis. FPL mins per point means how many minutes does it take to earn an FPL point. The lower the better obviously.

* McAuley’s Bookies odds are for a Clean Sheet.

*McAuleys Mins per goals and assists also include clean sheets when he’s been playing

Lukaku

4 consecutive blanks, a big drop off in underlying stats, a bias towards scoring at home and Arsenal away as your next opponents when you cost £10.1m is going to see sales.  The golden boot remains a motivation but with Everton’s Europa League position settled there’s nothing more to play for.  Transfers out are no surprise

Firmino

I can only think the Liverpool attacking midfielder is being sold due to the injury he missed out on the West Ham game for.  He isn’t definitely out of the Middlesborough home game and is subject to a late fitness test.  Seems a bit premature to sell to me given that relegated Middlesborough are the opposition.  At least until the press conferences for GW38.

McAuley

Subject to a late fitness test for the Man City away game tonight he’s by no means certain to be out for GW38 with a knock.  However it’s not a great fixture although how the sudden lack of pressure will affect Swansea’s is anybodys guess.

Costa

This is all about perceived gametime given Chelsea have won the league and there is an FA Cup final on the 27th of May.  It’s nothing to do with form or fixture as ordinarily there’s no way you’d take him out before a home game against a shambolic defensive side who are already relegated.  With Costa not playing against Watford yesterday I’m not so sure he won’t play against Sunderland in GW38.  I would at least wait a bit longer to see if Conte gives any clues.

Hazard

Again similar to Costa in that there’s no way you’d be taking hIm out before a home gAme against relegated Sunderland ordinarily.  This again is about perceived gametime for GW38.  Hazard is more likely to be rested though given he played 90 minutes against Watford yesterday.  Again I would probably want to leave it to the last minute to see if Conte gave any clues as to whether he will start or not
