Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW4 forward player rankings article. There’s a range of stats plus commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures. This will help you choose the best transfer for your team

fantasy premier league GW4 forward player rankings

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player.

This is the 4th player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article plus a midfielders article at £7.5m or over and a budget midfield player rankings

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW4 fixture ease article

Mins per FPL pt: How long it took to earn an FPL point in 16/17. The lower the better

PPG: the points per match taken from the FPL site

Underlying stats: I’ve taken underlying shot and key pass stats from whoscored.com and tried to put them into a meaningful number. The higher the better. You can see more in our underlying stats article and the expected goals underlying stats article

The rankings schedule

Lukaku

It’s been a great start for the Man Utd CF with 3 goals in his first 3 games.  The underlying stats also show that it’s no fluke.  His high ownership and captain favouritism make him a dangerous player not to own.  It will be interesting how he gets on as the fixtures stiffen somewhat after starting with the defensive basket cases that are Swansea and West Ham.  It will also be interesting to see if he retains penalties after his miss against Leicester

Stoke (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (A)

Kane

The Spurs CF is now a poster child for statistical regression.  With the underlying stats and post hitting that he’s been doing he must surely score soon.  A stiff fixture next though

Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)

Jesus

After a quite stunning start to his premier league career last season it’s been a bumpy start to this one with only 1 goal in his first 3 games.  There’s alot of positional uncertainty and even gametime uncertainty as Pep desperately tries to convince us how clever he is with multiple formation and playing staff changes.  It’s hard to think that he’s not a Pep favourite though but things would be better if he was the lone striker rather than playing as playing in a pair.  That just ends up with Aguero and him dropping back in turns which isn’t really productive from a fantasy point of view

Liverpool (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)

Firmino

The Liverpool false 9 plays centrally in a front 3  but drops off and creates chances as much as scoring them.  2 goals and 2 assists so far this season though show that it’s working.  The underlying stats are reasonable and it’s no surprise that only Morata has better key pass stats in the group than Firmino and it’s only just.

Man City (A)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)

Morata

The Chelsea striker has made a bright start to the season with 2 goals and 2 assists and has produced some good underlying stats to back it up.

Leicester (A)
Arsenal (H)
Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Watford (H)

Vokes

The Burnley striker started the season with 2 goals against Chelsea but has failed to add to his total since then.  However 2 great home fixtures in the next 3.  The underlying stats are a little mixed but only Kane, Morata and Lukaku are getting more penalty area shots off at a better rate than Vokes

Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Everton (A)
West Ham (H)
Man City (A)

Chicharito

The West Ham arch poacher has made the best of his chances bearing in mind the mess that his team is.  This is all about his ability to put the ball in the back of the net when given the chance and great fixtures

Huddersfield (H)
West Brom (A)
Spurs (H)
Swansea (H)
Burnley (A)
Brighton (H)

Lacazette

If someone had said after he scored for Arsenal against Leicester in the opening game with virtually his first touch that he wouldn’t have added anything to his total and would be on the bench in GW3 they would have been met with fairly surprised looks.  However this is the scenario that has unfolded.  However it’s hard to imagine that he will be on the bench against the magnificently organised Bournemouth defence that conceded more goals last season than Sunderland.  The bookies certainly agree as no one has better anytime goal scoring odds in the gameweek.  However if it all does go wrong you’ve got a tricky game away to Chelsea next

Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)

Rooney

With surprisingly no big name striker bought to Everton Rooney has to have a reasonable chance of leading the line although Sandro is proably the more natural CF.  2 goals already backed up by surprisingly tasty underlying stats considering the fixtures show that Rooney may not be a spent force.  If he can land the CF role then he could be great value when Everton’s fixtures turn in GW6

Spurs (H)
Man Utd (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Burnley (H)
Brighton (A)
Arsenal (H)

Vardy

2 goals in the game against Arsenal but nothing in the 2-0 win over Brighton is a disappointment for the Leicester CF.  His underlying stats aren’t that great either but he does have good shots in the 6 yard box stats as he showed on the counter at Arsenal.  Fixtures turn at GW7

Chelsea (H)
Huddersfield (A)
Liverpool (H)
Bournemouth (A)
West Brom (H)
Swansea (A)

Gabbiadini

After such a bright start when he joined Southampton it’s been downhill all the way since.  However at least he’s scored this season although the underlying stats don’t exactly breed confidence.  2 good fixtures before Man Utd change the landscape to some degree

Watford (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Man Utd (H)
Stoke (A)
Newcastle (H)
West Brom (H)

Abraham

The sale of Llorente gives Abraham an unimpeded run at a time when the Swansea fixtures are turning.  That’s at least until Bony is match fit which doesn’t look like it will be immediately.  He is a great price but his underlying stats are poor and Swansea without Sigurdsson look a clueless attacking a outfit

Newcastle (H)
Spurs (A)
Watford (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Leicester (H)
