FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW4 MIDFIELD PLAYER RANKINGS – £7.5M PLUS

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player.

This is the 2nd player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article

STATS DEFINITIONS

Players

You can see more detail in our underlying stats article part 1 which deals with shot and Key pass stats and the underlying stats part 2 which deals with expected goals

Sanchez

There’s no doubt Sanchez comes with a lot of potential upside at home to Bournemouth as he’s against one of the worst defensive sides in the league.  However there are a lot of if’s on the path to that potential upside.  Firstly there’s his state of mind after not getting the Man City transfer.  Then there’s the supposed injury he had which now seems ok and he can play and apparently will against Bolivia. How will that effect whether he starts and the minutes played on his return for GW4 is the question.   Lastly there’s when he gets back to the UK  .  The Bolivia game is on Tuesday so that should be plenty of time.  Lastly there’s Arsenals appalling form.  The reverse of though is that Bournemouth have been equally poor and Arsenal are capable of producing a high scoring game.  This is one for the brave but as I said there is alot of potential upside but also risk and you pay alot of cash for it.

Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)

Alli

2 goals in 3 games is a great start to the AM who’s practically playing as a striker.  2nd in the expected goals table for Mids he’s also well placed in the shots in the 6 yard box. The fixtures get very good after this week

Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)

Mane

3 goals 3 games.  Playing in the new position of the left side of a front 3 he’s thrived posting excellent underlying shooting stats and Expected goals stats.  Tough fixture next is the negative although Liverpool thrive against the top placed teams

Man City (A)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)

Silva

Pep’s latest formations involve De Bruyne and D  Silva behind a front 2 or front 3 so there’s probably not a huge amount of difference between the 2 players although Silva has been more productive and produced the better stats.  He also costs £2m less.  Has little shot threat and will rely on key passes but does have the strikers to finish them off

Liverpool (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)

Eriksen

Eriksen is another assist based player with 3 to his name so far but no goals.  However he has been posting much better shot stats than say Silva.  Does have a tendency to drop back to fetch the ball and also to shot from distance too often.  However excellent relationship with Kane and virtually all set piece responsibility largely offsets this.

Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)

Salah

He has been in fantastic form to date posting great shooting and expected goal stats as well as returning 2 goals and 2 assists.  The only negative is the next fixture and how much we can take for a player pretty new to the league from 3 games.

Man City (A)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)

Mkhitaryan

An incredible 5 assists in his first 3 games maybe overperforming his underlying stats but there’s no doubting his great form as he leads all the assist based underlying stats.  The question now will be how United cope with a few trickier games having brushed aside at least 2 of the worst defensive sides in the league

Stoke (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (A)

Hazard

Back in the frame after getting a reasonable amount of minutes over the International break for Belgium.  The question will be how many minutes he gets when back and that’s what makes him a risky pick just at the moment.  Should retain penalties.  Fixtures aren’t easy either.

Leicester (A)
Arsenal (H)
Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Watford (H)

Antonio

A great goal scoring midfielder with a good fixture next but stuck in a pretty dysfunctional team. Stats show his ability to get into the box

Huddersfield (H)
West Brom (A)
Spurs (H)
Swansea (H)
Burnley (A)
Brighton (H)

Ozil

One of the much maligned targets in the Arsenal team has the chance to try and turn the tide against Bournemouth.  Has actually produced good key pass stats just hasn’t had them finished off.

Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)
