FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW4 TIPS

Hegazi’s odds are for a clean sheet

Firmino

A goal and an assist in the win over Arsenal makes it 2 goals and 2 assists for the season as he leads the FPL forwards in total points and points per match.

He also features highly in our shot and key pass metrics in our underlying stats article part 1 and expected goals in part 2.  In fact him and Pogba are the only players who feature in the top 20 players expected goals and expected assists.

The fixtures could be better and whether I would be transferring a player in who’s next game is away to Man City is another question.  However Liverpool can score goals against anyone and perform well against the expected top 7 sides

Man City (A)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)

Morata

2nd in total FPL points and points per match to Firmino among forwards.  Like Firmino it’s an impressive 2 goals and 2 assists so far this season.  Morata also has got good underlying stats to go with that.

The fixtures aren’t great although Leicester away is a better fixture than Firmino has.

Leicester (A)
Arsenal (H)
Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Watford (H)

Salah

Showing the volatility of transfers at this stage of the season is the fact that Salah was the 3rd most transferred out last week after being rotated in GW2.  However his goal and assist against Arsenal has reversed that.  The Eygptian RW in a front 3 for Liverpool has returned to the premier league like his Chelsea experience was just a bad dream.  His goal and assist also takes him to 2 goals and 2 assists for the season.  Probably has the best shooting stats of any midfielder and definitely the best expected goal stats for any midfielder

Like Firmino though it’s whether City away are a good entry point although Liverpool are no ordinary team

Man City (A)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)

Mkhitaryan

Top of the assists, expected assists and key pass stats is the Man Utd RAM.  His 11 goals and 20 assists 14/15 season with Dortmund shows he can score goals too although we’ve yet to see that goal threat so far this season despite an advanced position.

The next 3 fixtures though are trickier than the opening 3 so it will be interesting to see how Man Utd fare

Stoke (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (A)

Hegazi

The WBA CB has prospered in the injury absence of Evans and McAuley as well as being the only WBA defender under £5.0m.  By all accounts he’s played well and although Evans will go straight back into the team it will be a straight choice for Pulis between Hegazi and McAuley.  Hegazi could win this pick although his mistake which led to a goal against Stoke won’t have helped his cause.  I’m not sure at £4.8m whether I would have gone for Dawson at £5.0m for more gametime security

Fixtures are still pretty good

Brighton (A)
West Ham (H)
Arsenal (A)
Watford (H)
Leicester (A)
Southampton (A)

 The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek.

De Bruyne

A £10.0m price, 3 blanks and himself opening up about his deeper role is only going to end in 1 way.  Mass transfers out.  To be fair he did create 4 chances in the game against Bournemouth and is in the top 10 players for key passes but has virtually no shot threat. Thats just too much for £10m although now £9.9m.

The fixtures aren’t a disaster.  However this is about his role and price

Liverpool (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)

Kane

If you thought that 3 blanks and £10m would see a mass of transfers out then imagine the chaos of £12.5m and 3 blanks.  However there is a starK difference between the 2 players.  Kane leads the shot stats and only Lukaku and Salah are ahead on expected goals.  He has the biggest divergence between expected and actual goals than anyone.  It all points to the fact that goals will come it’s just when.

Everton away could be a worse time to sell.  However, the 2 clean sheet defensive mirage that is Swansea is after that  (better known as 29 shots conceded against Southampton and the worst expected goals defence) so for me I ‘m definitely not selling irrespective of what happens against Everton.  Incredibly he’s £1.95 to score away to Everton which shows the bookies are still afraid of him.

Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)

Chicharito

Leading the transfers in last week he’s now 3rd in the transfers out this week after the disaster that was West Ham’s performance against Newcastle.

Huddersfield may have got 3 clean sheets but with them as your next fixture is it really necessary to sell?  Personally I would hold on 1 more game.  The arch poacher has shown what he can do with 2 goals and is 5th in the shots in the 6 yard box stat.  Good fixtures return after you get over WBA and Spurs

Huddersfield (H)
West Brom (A)
Spurs (H)
Swansea (H)
Burnley (A)
Brighton (H)

Lacazette

If I wasn’t selling Chicharito before Huddersfield I certainly wouldn’t be selling Lacazette before Bournemouth.  He may have been on the bench against Arsenal but it’s impossible to think he won’t start against Bournemouth given the criticism levelled at Wenger.  Also words from Wenger suggested that it was in part fixture related.

Let’s not forget that only Swansea and Hull conceded more goals than Bournemouth last season.  The mess that was Sunderland conceded 4 less.  Alot has been made of the Ake transfer but he was there for a decent time last season so has the purchase of Begovic fundamentally improved them?  Any team who gets cut to ribbons continually by Watford in front of their own fans has some real problems.  They sit 4th bottom for expected goals against at the moment despite playing Watford and WBA.

The bookies have him at £1.70 to score at any time.  Now I’m not saying that everything is rosy with Lacazette (he doesn’t feature in the top 20 xG for example) but I personally wouldn’t be selling at least for this game.

Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)

Aguero

The issue with Aguero is firmly around Pep.  Insecure gametime just isn’t what £11.5m is about and while you can maybe put Lacazette’s benching down to particular circumstances it’s hard to figure out why Aguero would be benched against Bournemouth.  The situation is made worse by the fact that while he was leading most of the striker underlying stats last season,  yet so far this season he’s not in any of the top 10 shooting stats and sits around 17th in expected goals for all players.  Even when he does play it appears to be in a 2 that involves either him or Jesus dropping off to collect the ball.

Liverpool (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
