FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW5 FORWARD PLAYER RANKINGS
First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.
Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player.
This is the 3rd player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article plus a midfielders article
Also see our underlying stats article which gives expected goals information on the players

The schedule
Kane
Last weekend at Everton the inevitable happened and Kanes bad luck with finishing finally saw the law of averages catch up with him with 2 goals. Great fixture next, great fixtures ahead and great underlying stats to back this up. Sure to be massive captain favourite. A brave FPL manager who goes without. Has pens and some set pieces.
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man Utd (A)
Jesus
Minutes on the pitch and rotation are the only things potentially holding back the young Brazilian as he’s yet to play 90 minutes. Pep seems to have settled (at least as much as we can expect him to) on a front 2 although how long this can go on for with Champions League remains to be seen. On the pitch he will get goals. The fixtures are good too.
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
West Brom (A)
Lukaku
4 goals and 90 minutes in each game contrasts to Jesus in terms of pitch time. Missed a pen so some doubt I guess whether that affects future duties. I would be surprised if it did. Great underlying stats but has had 2 defensive basket cases in Swansea and West Ham in his first 4. Fixtures are turning a bit.
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Spurs (H)
Aguero
Similar comments to Jesus. If he’s on the pitch he will score. May have penalty duties we will need to see. It’s how long Pep will stick with 2 up front with the amount of games ahead because it seems Jesus is the favourite of Peps
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
West Brom (A)
Firmino
Fills an interesting price hole in between premium at £10m or over and cheap at around £7m or below. Missed a pen midweek so that’s not helpful. Only ok underlying stats and maybe moved from a central position with the Mane suspension. Fixtures reasonable good though
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Morata
Worries over his super sub only status in Juve and RM seem to have dissipated with a great start with 3 goals and 2 assists in his starts. His underlying stats are good although probably show a little bit of over performance on his start. Fixtures are a bit mixed in the early 3 depending on your view of Arsenal
Arsenal (H)
Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Watford (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Lacazette
Despite 2 goals to start it’s been a bit of an underwhelming introduction to the PL. Hasn’t really produced much in the way of underlying stats which is a worry. However a good fixture run coming after Chelsea next. However there’s nothing wrong with his goalscoring history and he could have pens.
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Joselu
One of the few cheaper strikers to boast any sort of underlying stats. Would prefer a budget striker with very good fixtures but that just didn’t show up apart from maybe Defoe below and Abraham who’s in a terrible Swansea team. Joselu’s are a bit mixed. Doesn’t have a great history in he PL as was frozen out at Stoke. Has scored this season in the home rout of West Ham. A gamble definitely
Stoke (H)
Brighton (A)
Liverpool (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Burnley (A)
Defoe
2 good home games in the next 3 is the best I can drag out for cheap fixture based strikers. Defoe has blanked in his first 4 games although the first 2 were as subs. He was also subbed in the last 2 in the 70 minute area so minutes are an issue. He also hasn’t shown anything in underlying stats. Closest he has come is hitting the post against Arsenal. A gamble based on the first few fixtures. Could have pens unless Josh King takes them
Brighton (H)
Everton (A)
Leicester (H)
Spurs (A)
Stoke (A)
Chelsea (H)
