Here’s the team from last week:
So a good week last week. Holding De Bruyne only due to lack of alternatives paid off. Davies has been a major success and Lukaku continued his goal scoring form. Kane inevitably broke his duck. So everything so far has gone my way and I’ve got all the 50/50’s fairly right. Unfortunately 50/50 decisions are what they say and you know for everyone you get right you’re going to get 1 wrong eventually. It’s just a matter of time.
Issues in the team
Gametime security issues hover over Willian who was on the bench last week. Partially I’m sure due to travelling but it’s just a matter of time with Hazard virtually fully fit.
With Hoedt in the team and VVD virtually fit if not ready to start then it’s a big risk that he will lose his place. Assume that VVD will definitely start when fit then it’s 3 into 1 and I don’t like those odds
Mason. The £4.0m needs replacing with an active £4.5m player.
Tadic. Has to go in GW6 vs Man Utd unless something happens this week
De Bruyne. Just seems to expensive for someone with virtually no shot threat. His shot map so far is a total disaster with only shot in the box. I accept that now apart from Eriksen and Salah possibly that midfielders are divided into assisters or goal scorers but come on.
My issue is do I change him or do I work on the other issues.
A very threatening gameweek
For those managers who’ve stacked their attacking team with Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs players via a cheap defence playing 4-3-3 this weekend looks rosy. Salah, Firmino, Kane, Alli and Lukaku all have odds under £2.00 to score and of course Mkhitaryan and Eriksen can cause assist damage. I have good representation spread of these teams but only have 4, many have 6. If Liverpool and Spurs go wild it could be a difficult week.
Transfer options
Effectively I’ve considered 2 options. KDB to Alli and Willian to Antonio or Willian to Choupo Moting and Stephens to Mendy. It’s a classic dilemma. Changing the premium players to take advantage of fixtures or leaving a good spread of premium players while you improve the rest of your team incrementally sorting out issues as you go.
Ultimately I want to move my team to 4-3-3 so I can comfortably afford 3 expensive players up front and only rely on 2 fixture based cheap midfielders plus a decent defence. There’s some great premium striker options out there at the moment and great wing backs but they would be at the sacrifice of a narrow 3 man midfield
Another 50/50 which could easily go either way. There’s no doubt the Alli move would make more comfortable viewing as he is so highly owned and free from rotation with his UCL ban. Man City is a rotation risk but the next UCL game is Shaktar at home which hopefully should be fairly easy.
In the end I went for the team improvement route and will just suffer the Alli/Eriksen and Salah risk.
Captain choice
Didn’t even need to think about it Kane all the way. See our captain article
Lineup issues
Burnley away to Liverpool made the lineup fairly easy as they were always bench options. The GK question was difficult but I went for Foster just.
