Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW6 forward player rankings article. There’s a range of stats plus commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures. This will help you choose the best transfer for your team

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW6 FORWARD PLAYER RANKINGS

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player.

This is the 3rd player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article plus a midfielders article

Also see our underlying stats article which gives expected goals information on the players

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW6 fixture ease article

Mins per FPL pt: How long it took to earn an FPL point in 16/17. The lower the better

PPG: the points per match taken from the FPL site

ATGS – the bookies anytime goalscoring odds for GW6.

The Schedule

By the way I’ve not included Vardy because as I write this he’s an injury doubt

Aguero

In theory the only thing standing between Aguero and our FPL teams has been gametime.  However he seems to have got our attention despite this via his hat trick at Watford and him storming the captain Polls and bandwagon transfers.  Whereas before he was no danger not to own that has suddenly changed, potentially anyway.

The gametime issue still hasn’t completely changed.  It does seem that Pep’s favoured formation involves both Aguero and Jesus upfront.  However, while all the teams in European competitions will have rotation it’s far easier for Pep to play 1 striker and rest the other than it is for Kane and Lukaku to be rested in the PL or the UCL.  Their replacements in Rashford and Llorente just aren’t up to their standard whereas Jesus and Aguero are interchangeable.  What makes  it worse is Jesus playing in the EFL Cup shows that Pep will be trying to win he domestic cups too.  Otherwise Jesus would have been home watching it on the TV.  Lukaku and Kane were no where to be seen.

There’s also the issue with 2 upfront of them sharing space and opportunities and 1 dropping off continually.  That hasn’t hampered their underlying stats as they are 2nd and 3rd to Lukaku on this and Lukaku has had pretty easy fixtures to generate these from.

So this is about at least some improved gametime security with 2 upfront being Pep’s seemingly favoured formation although certainly not anything like guaranteed.  It’s also about Aguero being Aguero and the fear factor as a captain option and good fixtures to come.  It’s just whether that over rules the uncertainty you’ll still have and the trepidation every time a team sheet comes out

Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)

Jesus

Not much to add to the Aguero point.  Jesus is a somewhat less experienced player than Aguero but  facing the same pluses and minuses.  He has been taken off early by Pep for whatever reason.  That makes last night in the EFL odd unless you believe that Pep is determined to try and win it and willing to figure out a way of doing it that includes his 2 strikers.

Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)

Lukaku

Hasn’t always looked that convincing but you can’t argue with 5 goals and an assist and returning in every game except for the Leicester home win where he missed a penalty.  Penalties are now Mata’s when on the pitch btw.  He’s also putting up fantastic underlying stats.  The only negative is that he’s done it on a pretty soft opening schedule although that ignores how much he’s proved himself in the past.

Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)

Kane

The home game to Swansea has eradiated all the positivelty that the 2 goals at Everon provided and we’ve circled back to Wembley as an issue.  Whats more is that the underlying stats from that game are pretty dismal reading and are glossed over by the fact that he hit the post.  This is about your beliefe that the stats will come home to roost and the Harry Kane of last season is still inthere somewhere.  The counter argument is 2 goals and only 1 returning game in the first 5.  Fixtures are still good and he has the bonus of pens.

West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man Utd (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

Rooney

Rooney scored 2 goals in his first 2 games and then followed that with 3 blanks albeit against Chelsea, Spurs and Man Utd.  Has had decent gametime as a CF although seems to move back or sideways if Sandro comes on.  This is really all about fixtures and the belief that the goal scoring Rooney is still in there somewhere.  Could have pens although Siggy and Baines are also potentially in the frame.

Bournemouth (H)
Burnley (H)
Brighton (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (H)

Morata

Has started fairly brightly with 2 goals and 3 assists with the backdrop of some tricky games.  That great start has to be measured against a couple of tricky fixtures next and underlying stats that are good but maybe not £10m good.  The streets are potentially paved with gold though come GW8

Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Watford (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)

Firmino

Started the season well as a CF with 2 goals and 2 assists in his first 3 games .  However the sending off of Mane has seen him shunted left and now we have a FPL striker playing on the flank in a front 3.  That’s only for 1 more game but still not helpful.  Hasn’t set the world alight underlying stats wise for goal threat but has a good balance with his good assist threat.  Hard to say what effect the fixtures have as Liverpool probably are better when they have trickier fixtures

Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
Huddersfield (H)
West Ham (A)

Lacazette

The French striker hasn’t enjoyed anything like the start that Morata has although that has mirrored Arsenals poor start to the season.  The underlying stats certainly aren’t anything to write home about for the price and 2 goals, 1 benching and some 70 minute subbings aren’t helpful at all.  Wenger certainly hasn’t upped the positivity with “adjustment” type statements.  The positives are his historic goal record, a decent chance of pens and reasonably good fixtures going forward

West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)

Okazaki

A surprise inclusion loaded with caveats.  Firstly the positives.  Okazaki has scored 2 goals in 3 games and 1 sub appearance.  He’s also produced some very decent underlying stats to back that up.  He’s also crucial in defending from the front which is a big positive for the manager and hopefully on his gametime.  However he has alot of competition for his place including expensive signing Iheanacho.  That with a back drop of pretty ordinary returns last season makes him a risky acquisition. However at least he comes with an appropriate price

Liverpool (H)
Bournemouth (A)
West Brom (H)
Swansea (A)
Everton (H)
Stoke (A)

Joselu

How he didn’t score against Stoke at the weekend is beyond me as he had a number of great chances.  1 goal in 3 starts and 1 as sub.  Rejected by Stoke, on loan last season he scored 5 goals in 8 starts and 12 games as sub for La Coruna at an ok rate of a goal or assist every 148 minutes.  On the positive side there are some very good fixtures in the next 6 and Newcastle have started well.  On the negative side he has shown an inability to finish and has competition from Gayle and Mitrovic for his place,  who even if they don’t replace him are likely to eat into his minutes

Brighton (A)
Liverpool (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Burnley (A)
Bournemouth (H)
