Lascelles bookies stat is for a clean sheet not a goal

Aguero

In seasons gone by Aguero would have been the first player on the FPL team sheets and the go to captain option.  This season the Pep rotation fear, the Jesus Pep favourite status, other premium options and low ownership taking away the fear factor has meant he’s been largely ignored in FPL managers squads.  However he’s only been sub once this season, played 90 minutes in 3 games and 82 minutes in the other. That’s a pretty good record.  His hat trick against Watford and Crystal Palace next though  has changed the landscape and produced a huge 470k FPL manager bandwagon of transfers in.  He’s back and the fear factor of seeing him produce huge returns while a big captain favourite is upper most in many managers minds.

There are some reverse arguments though.  Firstly Man City only have 2 strikers and it’s difficult to see how sustainable playig 2 strikers every week will be.  While I’m sure Sane or Sterling will play as a striker in the domestic cups I’m not sure this would work in the Champions League.  Next week City are home to Shaktar in the UCL and then play Chelsea away.  Will he really play both strikers in 3 games?  The answer is who knows?  Pep just isn’t predictable.  So do you want to captain him with the bench risk?  There’s no doubt the situation is similar for Lukaku and Kane who also have similar fixtures.  However Man City have a viable lone striker alternative.  I can’t see Llorente or Rashford starting with Kane or Lukaku rested for the Champions League or the PL.  I can see it with Jesus or Aguero.

Having said that I will certainly bring him in.  The fear factor is too much with him leading the captaincy polls.

Gross

Gross has alot of positives as a midfielder.  He practically plays as a support striker and has alot of set piece responsibility.  He’s mainly a creative player and although he’s scored 2 goals in addition to his 2 assists on the whole he has shown little shot threat.  His main issuethough is the club he plays for who aren’t the most attacking or prolific.  Fixtures are ok although with the Bournemouth game gone GW5 would have been a better entry point

Silva

In alot of ways D Silva is Kevin De Bruyne but £2m or so cheaper.   A very assist based player who’s going to play 90 minutes most of the time and who already has 4 assists to his name.  His underlying assist stats are excellent too.  Like De Bruyne he isn’t that advanced but he’s cheaper and producing better actual and underlying stats

Lascelles

2 goals, 2 clean sheets in a Newcastle team that has shown good defensive form and underlying stats.  He has also featured well in the attacking stats for goal threat among defenders.  Fixtures are good over the next 6 and Brighton is an excellent entry point

Mkhitaryan

Like Silva and De Bruyne he’s been the chief creator in his side with reasonable set piece representation.  However he has played further forward than those 2 and has a history of a goal threat although we’ve yet to see it so far.  Doesn’t get to 90 minutes very often but has got to at least 80 in 4 of the 5 games. Pogba’s injury should make his creative output even more vital.  Fixtures are stiffening is the negative,  as well as the reliance on goals in 80 minutes plus from Man Utd.

Pogba

Injured with nothing official from the club as to the time frame he’s out.  Interestingly £4.9m mid Fellaini actually came in for him on the weekend rather than Herrera although with 1 goal last season in 1600 minutes that may not be the steal you think it is.  To be fair though Fellaini has already scored this season and his underlying goal scoring threat numbers are very good, albeit on limited data

Luiz

You know when someone built like Kolasinac goes down screaming like he did that the tackle isn’t a great one.   The red seemed full deserved to me.  He’ll be out for 2 PL games serving 1 of the 3 game ban in the EFL Cup.  Christensen came on for him effectively when he was sent off although I would have thought Rudiger would start.  Whatever for 2 games and Luiz certain to return to the lineup it’s an academic argument only.

Firmino

The Liverpool CF started the season brightly with 2 goals and 2 assists but everything has gone wrong since the moment Mane was went off for his “challenge” on GK Ederson.  Firmino was subbed on 66 minutes with the background of a thrashing by Man City and then in the enticing home fixture of Burnley he played wide left of a front 3.  Mane still has 1 more game to sit out before returning but 2 goals without a return in the crowded premium striker market is 2 games too many and he seems to be 1 of the sacrificial points for Aguero.

Chicharito

2 goals in any game will always see transfers in and then if you follow it with 3 blanks and a move to the flank to accomodate another striker that double whammy will see many transfers out.  Not only is there 3 blanks and a change of position but his underlying stats don’t give comfort either.  Spurs next is also a good exit point

Alli

Great fixtures, an advanced position which is pretty much as an additional striker and 2 goals in his first 5 games.  On the face of it there doesn’t seem to be a compelling reason to sell.  Nothing wrong with his underlying stats either.  However 2 consecutive blanks at this stage of the season is enough to see transfers in a fickle FPL manager market.
