Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW7 midfield player rankings article. There’s a range of stats plus commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures.  This will help you choose the best transfer for your team

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW7 MIDFIELD PLAYER RANKINGS

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player.

This is the 2nd player rankings article. I’ve also written a defenders and GKs player rankings article

The schedule

Probably worth mentioning that I haven’t included Sterling or Sane just due to doubts over regular gametime.  As I write this there are unconfirmed reports that Aguero has been involved in an accident and has broken ribs.  That would give space for 1 player but no certainty over who

Alli

2 assists against West Ham making it 2 goals and 2 assists in his 6 90 minute games to date.  Banned for 1 more UCL match and could even get a rest over the International break for his finger gesture supposedly to Kyle Walker.

Plays as a virtual striker and both assists against West Ham came from running in behind a high up defence resulting from his advanced position.  Underlying stats could be better from a shooting position although does look reasonably productive assist wise.

Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man Utd (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)

Salah

Taking to the premier league again like a duck to water.  4 goals and 2 assists in 5 starts are incredible form.  Plays in a very advanced position on the right of a front 3.  Fantastic underlying shooting stats even if the sitter he missed and his performance at Man City show that he can be wasteful.  A couple of tough fixtures in the next 3 although as I’ve said Liverpool can often do better against the top 4 challenging teams as they tend to not just sit deep.  Man Utd apart at times.

Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
Huddersfield (H)
West Ham (A)
Southampton (H)

Sanchez

Started against WBA after 2 sub appearances and obtained an assist after his free kick bounced off the bar to Lacazette.  Doesn’t seem to have hit top form although his underlying stats are ok if not Sanchez ok.  Great fixture next.  This is all about trusting his class.  It just how you balance your squad with his price is the main problem

Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Spurs (H)

Mkhitaryan

Started the season with 5 assists in 3 games which has turned to 1 goal in the last 3.  Pleasing to see 6 starts in 6 games and 4 80 minute plus appearances with the other 2 being 70 minutes plus.  His assist underlying stats are fantastic although his goal threat could be better.  However there will be tap ins with his advanced position as we saw against Everton.  I guess the question in some way revolves around your squad and Lukaku.  Southampton was the first sign that Mourinho will shut up shop when he has to and the turn in fixtures coming around the corner could see more.  On the plus side, it’s a great fixture next and he’s feeding a striker in great form.  There’s no doubt the ability to create and score as well is there given his Dortmund history.

Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)
Newcastle (H)

Eriksen

Another outside the area goal for the Spurs creator against West Ham making it 2 goals and 3 assists for the season.  He has certainly performed but I’m a little disappointed with his assist underlying stats although he has made up for it with better than expected underlying shooting stats.  Also has a tendency to drop back and pick up the ball deep which I don’t like.  However on the positive side he has performed this season and he has a virtual monopoly on set pieces and Harry Kane to provide chances for.

Huddersfield (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)
Man Utd (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)

Mane

Back from his ban this weekend.  The Liverpool LAM was in great form before the sending off with 3 goals in his first 3 starts. That time off should ensure good minutes going forward and he will increase Liverpools threat with his additional ability to run in behind

Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
Huddersfield (H)
West Ham (A)
Southampton (H)

Silva

In superb form with 4 assists and two 11 point FPL hauls in his last 2 games.  This is no fluke as his underlying assist stats are excellent.  He’s also a very good price.  Only ranked so low as Chelsea away is a difficult entry point but after that the fixtures improve

Chelsea (A)
Stoke (H)
Burnley (H)
West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)

Coutinho

In Mane’s absence he played on the left side of a front 3 for his  1 goal 1 assist 13 FPL point haul against Leicester.  The theory is that he will drop back into the 2 of 4-1-2-3. That’s obviously deeper but the data is unclear whether that will actually affect his returns although intuitively it’s not a positive development.  Will have good set piece representation.

Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
Huddersfield (H)
West Ham (A)
Southampton (H)

Sigurdsson

in 4 90 minute starts he’s yet to return and the underlying stats don’t look good so far.  However they have had a very hard fixture start in mitigation.  Will have a decent share of set pieces with Rooney but can’t be guaranteed penalties like his Swansea days.  This is all about fixtures and the belief that the Swansea Sigurdsson is in there somewhere.  A great entry point for a transfer but then again so was his blank against Bournemouth

Burnley (H)
Brighton (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Hazard

Was fantastic midweek in his start against A Madrid laying on the assist for Morata and providing 7 key passes and 4 shots on goal.  Home to City isn’t the greatest entry point for a transfer in especially when you think that Conte may not give him the full 90 given his kid glove treatment to date.

There’s no doubt the guy is all class and one of the few players you would bet on doing the double double of 10 goals and 10 assists.  He’s done that in 2 of his 5 years and in 2 of the others got 9 assists last season and 9 goals in 12/13 to just miss out.  The underlying stats on limited data are all pointing in the right direction.  The low ranking is due to the entry point fixture and possible minutes risk.

Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Watford (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)
West Brom (A)

Ramsey

2 assists in his last 3 games isn’t to be sniffed at although his excellent performance against WBA should be seen in the context of him playing in the 2 of 3-4-2-1 rather than as a CM in the 4 as I expect Ozil to take his WBA role.  Very good underlying stats though.  However apart from his breakout year he has consistently under performed them.  This week is a good entry point for Arsenal assets

 Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Spurs (H)

Choupo Moting

You may wonder what the FPL fuss is over Choupo Moting after all he’s only returned in 1 game against Man Utd in his 5 starts.  There are 2 factors.  Firstly he’s playing either CF or LAM in a front 3 depending on Jese’s positioning and secondly he’s posting some pretty impressive underlying shooting stats.  Midfielders playing as strikers don’t come along every day and although the returns are disappointing the underlying stats have made it worth holding on.  Apart from Man City in GW8 the fixtures are ok.

Southampton (H)
Man City (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Watford (A)
Leicester (H)
Brighton (A)

Ozil

Blanked in his first 4 starts before fitness issues prevented him starting in the last 2.  Appears fit for GW7.  Has posted reasonably good assist stats and the signing of Lacazette and return of Sanchez should help in theory see those chances finished off.  The contract situation is a negative cloud around him though with January exit rumours already starting

Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Spurs (H)

Mata

5 starts and no returns.  Three 70 minute substitutions and two 60 minutes.  It’s not a recipe for a transfer in.  He also plays in the 2 of 4-1-2-3 which isn’t ideal.  Whats more the Pogba injury didn’t help his minutes at Southampton as he was subbed in the 61st minute.  This is about a good fixture next , some ok underlying stats, a cheap price and the hope that the Pogba injury and at least the short term Fellaini injury will see more minutes from him and the underlying stats turned into points

Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)
Newcastle (H)
