NOTE THIS ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN BEFORE NEWS OF AGUERO’S INJURY

Hi and welcome to my Gameweek 7 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

Player categories

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 6 Review

GW3 Banker – Christian Eriksen

GW3 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet)
GW4 – 8 points (1 goal, midfield clean sheet)
GW5 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet)
GW6 – 9 points (1 goal, 2 bonus points) – The Dane finishes his Banker stint on a high. He was a key link player in Spurs win, scoring the 3rd goal and ranking high on the BPS rating with a number of key passes including a lovely through ball that started the move for the opening goal.

GW4 Banker – Craig Dawson

GW4 – 1 point (2 goals conceded)
GW5 – 6 points (1 clean sheet)
GW6 – 0 points (2 goals conceded, yellow card) – West Brom can feel rather hard done by after Monday’s game, but the reality for the Dawson is that he was lucky to score 0. He was perilously close to a red card after a couple of fouls followed his earlier yellow. Watford at home for the final game of his Banker stint is a better prospect of a return.

GW5 Banker – Ben Davies

GW5 – 0 points (didn’t play)
GW6 – 1 point (2 goals conceded) – Another disappointing return from Davies. Spurs no doubt had their eyes on their midweek UCL fixture when they went 3-0 up and in the end were left hanging to hang on for the win. Huddersfield next up though so owners will be optimistic for this.

GW6 Banker – Sead Kolasinac

GW6 – 6 points (1 clean sheet) – As mentioned earlier, The Gunners were lucky to keep a 3rd consecutive clean sheet after WBA missed a couple of great chances and were denied a stonewall penalty. Owners of Arsenal defenders won’t be complaining though!

Ace – Sergio Aguero – 11 points (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 bonus points) – City kept up their great form, making it 16 goals scored and none conceded in their last 3 league games. Aguero’s form has been a key part in this and despite missing a few chances he produced a good FPL haul again. His stats are superb and he’s also added assists to his game this season. Ignore him at your peril.

Joker – Chris Wood – 2 points – A blank from the Burnley striker as their game against Huddersfield finished goal-less. Mixed fixtures coming up, but the home games still look the better options for returns.

Gameweek 7 Picks

Banker – Sergio Aguero (MCI £11.7m – che)

A straight shift from Ace to Banker, after another good return last week. A tricky fixture to start a banker stint, but Aguero has an excellent record against Chelsea and is in red hot form. A trip to Stamford Bridge therefore shouldn’t phase the little Argentine and I expect there to be goals in this one based on the recent free-scoring antics of both sides. Stoke and Burnley at home follow next for FPL’s leading points scorer, it’ll be a brave manager who bets against him over the next few weeks.

Ace – Romelu Lukaku (MAN £11.7m) – CPL

For the second week in a row it’s a home fixture against Crystal Palace that gets the ace treatment. This time it’s GW2 Banker Romelu Lukaku in the slot, who already boasts 6 goals and an assist going into this fixture. He was in great UCL form in midweek and he’s also going to be heavily captained this week. You’d better get comfortable behind the sofa at 3pm on Saturday if you don’t have him in your team.

Joker – Andy Carroll (WHM £5.9m) – SWA

It’s a Full House of strikers this week on Player Picks as the Hammers target man completes my GW7 set. Hernandez is arguably the safer goalscorer bet in this fixture but Carroll offers a great chance of return I reckon. He’s scored more league goals against Swansea than any other team and should prove a real threat against a Swans defence which, despite a couple of impressive away clean sheets looks highly unconvincing, especially in the air. If you’re after a 1 week punt or a short term cheap enabler, he could be a great differential.

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone.
