fantasy premier league GW8 player picks by Rob Reid (the FPL Vet)

Hi and welcome to my Gameweek 8 Player Picks.

Player Categories

For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 7 Review

GW4 Banker – Craig Dawson

GW4 – 1 point (2 goals conceded)
GW5 – 6 points (1 clean sheet)
GW6 – 0 points (2 goals conceded, yellow card)
GW7 – 1 point (1 goal conceded) – a disappointing finish to a pretty disappointing Banker stint. I’d have ear-marked 2 or possibly 3 clean sheets from these fixtures with a possible attacking return 1 clean sheet is certainly below expectations.

GW5 Banker – Ben Davies

GW5 – 0 points (didn’t play)
GW6 – 1 point (2 goals conceded)
GW7 – 16 points (1 clean sheet, 1 assist, 1 goal, 1 bonus point) – a bit more like it from the Spurs wing-back! Now valued at £5.9m he continues to look a good option, even with rumours circulating of Danny Rose starting to resume training.

GW6 Banker – Sead Kolasinac

GW6 – 6 points (1 clean sheet)
GW7 – 6 points (1 clean sheet) – an expected clean sheet, though overshadowed slightly by an attacking return from the cheaper Monreal. Watford away next is a tougher fixture, especially with Mustafi and possibly Koscielny injured.

GW7 Banker – Sergio Aguero

Picked up a freak rib injury in a car crash just before the GW7 deadline so didn’t play this week and his return date is unknown at this stage.

Ace – Romelu Lukaku

– 6 points (1 goal) – Another goal for Mr consistent, it’s now 7 goals and 1 assist this season; 6/7 returns. Things get tougher now – Liverpool away next, then Spurs home and Chelsea away in GW10 and GW11. High ownership means non-owners take a big risk.

Joker – Andy Carroll

1 point (yellow card) – The West Ham hitman is still yet to score this season and his 2nd consecutive yellow card completed a poor return against an ailing Swansea side.

Gameweek 8 Picks

Banker – David Silva (MCI £8.5m) – STO

Silva looks the most gametime secure of City’s attacking players going into a fine run of fixtures that sees them meet only one of last season’s Top 6 between now and GW16. He’s yet to find the net this season, but has returned 6 assists and 8 bonus points and has also started all 7 games. Sterling is the cheaper goal-scoring alternative, while Sane is a similarly priced all rounder; both however have doubts about their gametime in Pep’s rotation merry-go-round. so Silva is probably the safer option in this respect.

Ace – Harry Kane (TOT £12.7m) BOU

With Morata llikely to miss GW8, Kane looks like he’ll be heavily backed as the main captain pick this weekend. And there’s good reason. With 6 league goals last month as well finding the net regularly in the UCL and on England duty, not many would bet against him. It’s win-less Bournemouth next and I suspect Spurs will end their domestic Wembley curse, with Kane likely to be at the forefront.

Joker – Harry Maguire (LEI £5.1m) WBA

It’s a defensive Joker pick this week, but one with attacking potential. Maguire already has a goal and 2 assists this season so certainly knows where the net is at the attacking end. The question is whether he help The Foxes defence get it right at the other end and a home fixture against West Brom looks a good opportunity to do so. He’s the most selected of Leicesters defenders with 7.1% ownership, but as mentioned you do get more attacking potential for this compared with his counterparts. Could this be his week?

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone
