fantasy premier league GW9 tips – the early bandwagons and sinking ships

The Bandwagons

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek in order

Alexis Sanchez

You must be doing something exceptional to get more transfers in than someone who scored 5 goals in the previous gameweek and that is indeed the case with the £11.2m Arsenal midfielder Alexis Sanchez.  2 goals at home to Man Utd to add to his hat trick at Leicester the previous week.  All of this is no fluke given his excellent underlying shooting stats.  Thats also before you even discuss his world class international pedigree and stats from his debut season last year.  Generally not bad fixtures coming up

Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (H)
West Brom (A)
Norwich (A)

Aguero

If Alexis Sanchez came out of the last chance saloon fighting with his hat trick against Leicester in GW7 then the £13.3m Man City striker came out of his last chance saloon as a one man army with 5 goals against the hapless Newcastle.  Given his consistent quality and returns of the previous seasons the fantastic underlying stats that he had been amasssing without return were eventually going to boil over and they finally did.  Fixtures are certainly a bit more mixed but Aguero has proved over the seasons that he can score against anyone

Bournemouth (H)
Man Utd (A)
Norwich (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Liverpool (H)
Southampton (H)

Pelle

The £8.1m Southampton forward has continued to produce returns consistently this season going under the radar to a large extent.  However when you get a goal and 2 assists in the Champions back yard then get noticed you do.  That makes it an eye catching 3 goals and 4 assists in the last 3 games.  That gives him an impressive FPL point every 13.1 minutes and an equally impressive consistency return rate (the % of games that a goal or assist has been acheived) of 63%.  This also has been no fluke as he has shooting stats currently second only to Aguero but has even better creating chances stats.  Some excellent fixtures mixed in with some tricky ones

Leicester (H)
Liverpool (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Sunderland (A)
Stoke (H)
Man City (A)

Vardy

The £6.7m Leicester forward rewarded the incredible 500k transfers in the previous week with a goal and maximum bonus in the win at Leicester.  Interestingly it was from the spot with Mahrez off the field.  Vardy has a minute per FPL point of an impressive 13.7 mins and a phenomenal consistency return rate of 88%.  These are backed up by very good underlying shooting and creating chances stats.  They’re not Aguero or Pelle good but good none the less.  The question is how sustainable it is.  You expect improvement after a debut season in the premier league but to go from an FPL point every 18.7 mins last season to 13.7 this season is some improvement. Fixtures are a bit mixed.

Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
West Brom (A)
Watford (H)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)

Cabaye

The £6.5m Crystal Palace midfielder has scored 2 goals from 2 penalties in the last 2 games which has also seen 5 bonus points come to him as well.  Before that he had gone 5 games without a goal or assist.  He’s generally playing in the double pivot or the midfield 3 of 4-3-3 so starting from a fairly deep position.  The season so far does give him a respectable FPL point every 16.8 mins although a consistency return rate of 38% is on the edges.  2 pens in 8 games though even with the trickery and pace of Bolasie and Zaha to draw pens is a difficult thing to continue as no one is going to get 9-10 pens in a season.  Fixtures apart from a couple look a lot better then earlier in the season

West Ham (H)
Leicester (A)
Man Utd (H)
Liverpool (A)
Sunderland (H)
Newcastle (H)

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek

Yaya Toure

The £8.7m Man City midfielder missed GW8 with a hamstring injury although he is expected to return for GW9.  With fellow midfielder De Bruyne on fire and the consistent David Silva returning then it’s no surprise that the deeper lying YYT is being sacrificed.  1 assist in the last 4 after starting on fire isn’t exactly helping things either.  An FPL point every 15 minutes and a consistency return rate of 57% is good though.  No underlying stats are no surprise and not been a barrier in the past.  Fixtures a bit more mixed than they were recently

Bournemouth (H)
Man Utd (A)
Norwich (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Liverpool (H)
Southampton (H)

Callum Wilson

The £5.7m Bournemouth forward started the season so well but a potentially season ending knee injury has put paid to all that promise.  A must sell

Pedro

If you cost £9.3m and have been on the bench in the previous gameweek after blanking in the 3 previous games to that then you’re going to be sold thats for sure.  Good shooting stats give some hope that it could return but when his direct replacement of Willian has been playing well and is more defensively minded in a defensive crisis for the club then that makes it worse.  However if you are going to name a fixture that you wouldn’t want to take him out before then apart from the 2 North East clubs then home to Villa has to be it.

Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)
Liverpool (H)
Stoke (A)
Norwich (H)
Spurs (A)

Hazard

The £11.3m Chelsea midfielder was last years player of the season but has been part of the incredible fall from grace of the Champions of 14-15.  Returning in the last 3 games with a goal and 2 assists hasn’t helped stabilise the transfers out position either.  While his consistency rate of 50% isn’t a disaster the FPL minutes per point of 22.5 is an absolute disaster for the price and more so when compared to his 14.5 last season.  However whereas the shooting stats of Aguero and Sanchez gave his holders hope that things would come right there’s no such comfort with Hazard.  They are currently worse than Milner’s or Kouyates and there’s no positive recent stats to help.  However if you’re thinking of selling I can think of better fixtures to do it before than home to Villa.  Does have pens

Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)
Liverpool (H)
Stoke (A)
Norwich (H)
Spurs (A)

Kompany

The £6.2m Man City CB and captain has missed the last 3 games with the sort of drip feed information more often reserved by Mourinho for Diego Costa.  Supposedly back for GW9 and he should help the defence which has conceded 7 goals in those 3 fixtures without him and added no clean sheets to the 5 in the games with him.  All depends on whether you believe he will be fit as a home game to Bournemouth without Callum Wilson has to be a good clean sheet prospect if he indeed starts

Bournemouth (H)
Man Utd (A)
Norwich (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Liverpool (H)
Southampton (H)
