fantasy premier league – my imaginary wildcard team for GW23

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my fantasy premier league imaginary wildcard team for gameweek 23. Its a team for the future as if I was using my wildcard, not just GW23.  Remember tomorrow you will be able to see the lineups before the gameweek deadline

fantasy premier league – my imaginary wildcard team for GW23

I’ve dovetailed it in with my “ones to watch” articles so you can see the stats while viewing the team. Obviously when doing a wildcard team you can take a few more chances and in order to make the numbers up you add in players that you may have classified as hold in case you were wondering.  Some of the numbers are my sell values by the way not the buy prices.  The value is around £106.5m which is probably slightly more than average.  Ive got players who have blank gameweeks in GW28 so enough time to remove them

Here’s the team:

Boruc and Davis

If you’re going for a Arsenal Everton and Chelsea defensive 3 then you need some value at GK.  I’ve gone for Southampton as a cheap home and away defence.

The 4th best home defence.  5th best away defence.   25 goals conceded and 8 clean sheets.  How many times  do they feature in the top 10 fantasy premier league managers teams:  8

Only 2 clean sheets in the last 13.  the rating is helped by  the early season form where they had 6 clean sheets in 9.  It takes a leap of faith to think they can get back to that form.  The injury to Lovren  won’t help that.

Coleman

9th best home defence.  2nd best away defence.   20 goals conceded and 9 clean sheets.  How many times  do they feature in the top 10 fantasy premier league managers teams:  10

Form’s not great with 1 clean sheet in the last 8.  However they’ve not conceded more than 1 goal in that run and they have excellent early season form.

Coleman  is the best option at £6.8m but is an injury doubt for the moment.  The implication is that it isn’t serious and physioroom have him back for GW24.  He has excellent attacking form having scored 5 goals and an assist to date.

Koscielny

2nd best home defence. 4th best away defence.   19 goals conceded and 10 clean sheets.  How many times  do they feature in the top 10 fantasy premier league managers teams:  9

I rate Arsenal as the best overall defence in the league at the moment.  Since the hammering at City its been 4 clean sheets out of 6.  Some representation is essential.

If I had unlimited money I would go for Mertesacker but Koscielny is good value with good bonus potential.

Azpilicueta

6th best home defence. 1st best away defence.   20 goals conceded and 8 clean sheets.   How many times  do they feature in the top 10 fantasy premier league managers teams:  2

The form defence with 4 clean sheets in the last 6.  The purchase of a proper CDM in Matic should also help as neither Luiz, Ramires or Lampard are positionally disciplined.

If I had unlimited money I would go for Terry.  Azpilicueta is the gametime risk budget option at £5.3m which I’ve gone for due to lack of funds. Interestingly he held his place against Man Utd and moved to LB at the expense of Cole.  Hopefully that will continue.

Ward

15th ranked home defence.  14 goals conceded and 4 clean sheets at home.  How many times  do they feature in the top 10 fantasy premier league managers teams:  9

The ranking isn’t representative of current form.   It’s skewed by the Holloway period.  Post Pulis its 3 clean sheets in 5 home games.

Ward is my top choice at £4.2m playing in midfield.

Alex Bruce

1st ranked home defence. 8 goals conceded and 6 clean sheets at home. How many times do they feature in the top 10 fantasy premier league managers teams: 4
The best home defence in my view and without doubt the best budget defence at home. CB Chester was the best pick but he’s now out until 15 March.  CB Davies at £4.6m is too expensive compared to the rest of the team.

CB Alex Bruce is now my best bet at £3.9m

Hazard (£10.6m)

  • Goals and assists:  9 goals 8 assists.  Time per point scored:   13.6  mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 8th.  Consistency 11/22   50%  Last 5 return consistency:  4/5   How many times in top 10 fantasy premier league managers I follow:  10

Has great gametime security given the amount of attacking midfielders available to Mourinho.  In great form at the moment although over the season a little inconsistent.  Has very good underlying stats although not in Silvas class.  Excellent game next if for some reason you haven’t bought.

Januzaj (£5.3m)

Looking better and better each game.  A player who has excellent vision, can beat a man and has a good shot.  Mata will probably mean he will move to the flank though.  started 7 of Man Utd’s last 8 games.  Only 1 assist in his last 5 but shown enough to see that the returns will come.  With Cardiff and Fulham home games in the next 3 now is a great time to buy.  The gametime risk which remains as part of a large squad makes him a difficult bench warmer and more of a rotation option.

Didn’t have him in my “ones to watch” article but previous form has been amazing and it will be interesting to see if it can be replicated

Adam Johnson

  • Goals and assists:  5 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:  16.4  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 14th.  Consistency 4/20  25%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  2/5   How many times in top 10 fantasy premier league managers I follow: 0

A short term option for the Stoke and Hull home game then out for the GW28 Sunderland blank.  75% of his season returns so far have come in the last 2 games.  His goal in GW22 should also have been saved by Boruc.  In 18 games before the last 2 he had scored 1 goal and 1 assist.  Is a miraculous change around coming?  Difficult to say.  History says he’s never scored more than 6 in a season but his time has been limited at City.  Last year he only scored 5.  However he does look dangerous everytime he gets the ball and he also now has a good share of set pieces.  He has Stoke at home and then Hull at home in his next 3 games.  To me its worth a punt , but it really is a punt.  Has a blank gameweek in GW28 by the way

Consistent performer who’s rested for the FA Cup and carrying a slight injury doubt.  Expect him to play though away to Spurs.  Has the best underlying stats of any midfielder.

5 goals and 3 assists in 6 games since coming back into the team.  Great form and has good underlying stats so far.  3 tricky games next will be a good bellweather for the rest of the season.

It’s a sign of something that its a shock when he doesn’t score in a home game.  Has it all, can go past people score with ever feet create space and chances for others.  Great captain option at home.  Harder fixtures will make captain choices interesting though.

I did say he was lethal from the bench but a goal and an assist in 29 minutes was even more than I expected.  Unbelievable in the FACup with a hat trick.  A must have.
