Here’s a look around the grounds for some of the significant new fantasy premier league injuries from last week. We’ll also look to identify their replacements and any value that may create for your teams. Despite the name this is not meant to be insensitive or flippant towards any injured players. However the reality is a cheap replacement often can provide real value to your team. Dzeko in for the injured Aguero being a good recent example. We’ll also take a look at some of those players coming back for GW36 and potentially who they may replace. Friday’s managers press conferences give the most up to date information on injuries so be wary of jumping the gun early on the basis of assumed injury returns at this stage of the week.
fantasy premier league injuries from GW35
Cech
No return date yet for the Chelsea GK but he looks to be out for the season after dislocating his shoulder. Here’s what Mourinho said
‘Petr Cech’s season over. Don’t ask me technically, but season over.
Schwarzer replaced him in the Champions league game and seems the likely replacement. He’s £4.5m compared to Cech’s £6.4m so an absolute bargain if you haven’t got Mannone in or a DGW37 keeper. Here’s the fixtures
Liverpool (A)
Norwich (H)
Cardiff City (A)
John Terry
Also injured in the Champions league game. Again no return date on physioroom. Here’s what Mourinho said.
“And John – we have to play the final for him to play with us.”
Thats well after the end of the premier league season so again we can assume he will be out for the season.
Luiz is the likely replacement. There’s no much value there as he’s £6.0m. Azpilicueta is already available at £5.7m and now Schwarzer at £4.5m.
Silva
Injured in the WBA game. No return date as yet on physioroom. Apparently tests will be done today but the talk before was 2 weeks. That would mean him missing the DGW37. This is what Pellegrini said after the game
‘It’s hard to tell without the doctors giving their assessment but hopefully it will be a short-term injury,’
‘It’s the same ankle. He’s been playing with pain in it. We will see tomorrow what the doctor says about him.’
That would give certainty to Nasri who would be less likely to be subbed early. The additional player could be Navas although he himself is carrying an injury again with no return date. So the value could then be Milner who is cheap at £5.4m. He’s only started 8 games but is the natural replacement if Silva and Navas are both injured. Although he’s not a great attacking player his returns aren’t too bad with a fantasy premier league point every 19.6 minutes. More info required though on Silva and Navas
Distin
Again no return date on his hamstring injury but I have read articles saying he’s out for the season. One thing for sure is Jagileka wont be rushed back and the plan is for Jagielka to be out until GW37. That leads to a likely scenario of cheapie CB John Stones at £4.2m lasting potentially to the end of the season. On the negative side are the fixtures which aren’t helpful especially with both regular CBs out.
Southampton (A)
Man City (H)
Hull City (A)
Mirallas
Also out for the season with a groin injury. Doesn’t really help the clarity over attacking midfielders though. The rotation policy is likely to go on and the attacking midfilders available are still Osman, Barkley, McGeady and Deulofeu. That does lessen the rotation but it’s hard to say someone will start the last 3 games. Here’s the fixtures again
Southampton (A)
Man City (H)
Hull City (A)
Ridgewell
A knee injury means Ridgewell will be out for the season as confirmed by Pepe Mell.
“We have the feeling Ridgewell will miss the rest of the season,”
He also confirmed that Chris Brunt will play LB. Brunt is one of the more likely targets as a cheapie WBA midfilders for DGW37, primarily for his set piece duties. While he still will have those it seems a bit of a stretch to draft in a midfielder as an LB and then put him into your fantasy premier league team as a midfielder. Focus will move on to Amalfitano as a cheapie at £4.2m. It should strengthen £4.4m Dorrans position as well. Good fixtures to the end of the season
West Ham (H)
Arsenal (A) DGW37
Sunderland (A) DGW37
Stoke City (H)
Those returning for gameweek 36 and the implications
YYT
Back in training frustratingly for those who’ve just transferred him out. May start from the bench although Palace away will not be easy. You would think he will be ready for DGW37 although could he just play 1 game? The victim will be Garcia though although I hope no one has bought him. Fernandinho will also not get forward as much as allowed by Garcia who is a proper sitting CDM.
Here’s Pellegrini
“Yaya, I think, can be fit for next game.” (GW36)
Gibbs
Monreal and Vermaelen have shared this spot so Gibbs won’t really deprive anyone of anything. I would be surprised if Gibbs doesn’t go straight back. Koscielny at £5.4m compared to Gibbs £5.2m is the better bet anyway in my view. Excellent fixtures
Newcastle (H)
West Brom (H)
Norwich (A)
Dawson and Vertonghen
Both are fit this week. Interestingly Fryers played at CB against Fulham. Interestingly, I believe Chiriches was fit. To me it seems likely that Vertonghen will return to partner Kaboul who’s good value at £4.6m. Walker still has no return date so Naughton remains the value anyway. Thats if there’s any value in a team with no clean sheet in 7 games and has conceded 16 goals in that period. Fixtures though aren’t too bad from a defensive standpoint but you really must have nothing better to do with your team than be looking in the Spurs defence direction
Stoke City (A)
West Ham (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Sturridge
Not much information over the last couple of days but he could be back for GW36 v Chelsea. Bearing in mind the fairly negative attitude expected from Chelsea despite needing a win he may not be a gamble needed to take. I think Chelsea will try and win it on the break then it may not be a panic to get Sturridge back in. I don’t think his return will hurt Sterling or Coutinho. I can still see a diamond with Lucas the most likely to drop out from last week. Or maybe Allen but hard to see anyone owning those.
