Here’s the fantasy premier league gameweek 17 match review concentrating on the key fantasy premier league players

fantasy premier league – match analysis GW17 Saturday

Liverpool 3 Cardiff 1

I don’t think there is any point in going on about how good Suarez is.  16 points says it all.  Away to Man City and away to Chelsea will be interesting.  To captain or not will be the question

Sterling and Henderson were  2 cheapies highlighted in my midfield “ones to watch” article.  A goal and 2 assists respectively outlined their credentials.  Sterling particularly gave Taylor nightmares at LB and had great shooting stats.  Now is probably not the time to buy given the next 2 fixtures.

A great selling point for the Liverpool defence now with those fixtures.  Another game where they threw away a clean sheet.  Flanagans cheapie status at £4.6m may be worth holding onto for the patient though.

For Cardiff cheapie Jordan Mutch has definitely shown himself as an attacking option with a goal and numerous chances.  Saints and Sunderland at home are reasonable places to start.

Whittinghams set piece assist potential was again shown with an assist for the Mutch goal.  Its now 2 consecutive returns after a 3 game blank.

Crystal Palace 0 Newcastle 3

A poor performance from the Palace defence after 2 great clean sheets at home.  Norwich Stoke and Hull are next though so definitely don’t abandon those assets.

Cabaye scored and would have had the pen had he not been subbed.  With him playing in front of Anita and Tiote in 4-2-3-1 he plays in a much further advanced position so you get a goal scoring threat as well as the existing set piece threat which exists in 4-4-2.  That may just be an away formation but he was worth looking as a set piece only option so add the advanced position and he really looks a good option.

Fulham 2 Manchester City 4

Interestingly Negredo and Dzeko both started. This mean the Negredo 60 mins Dzeko 30 mins risk never materialised.  Negredo was the most advanced player.  Surprisingly Dzeko dropped into midfield when City didn’t have the ball and drifted left when Silva came inside.  This could continue as both have had limited gametime to date and with Jovetic to assist with rotation.  He may reduce to 1 striker to not get outmanned against Liverpool though.

Silva was excellent with 2 assists and underlined his value as top midfielder in my view.  good all round underlying stats.  YYT continued defying logic.  Despite a deep position and not creating a single chance and the free kick being the only shot he had in the game he emerged with a goal and the 3 bonus points for a total of 10 points.

The City defence again wobbled away from home.  This time the underlying stats weren’t a solace.

Man United 3 West Ham 1

The ridiculous misinformation from Moyes about injuries continues with Rooney where it left off with RVP.  “He has a chance” somehow turned into 90 minutes of energy even though the game was won long before that.

Having started Rooney again played behind Welbeck Rooney wasn’t as noticeably deep as last week.  2 assists and his phenomenal consistency continues.  He also has set pieces and pens to draw on.  Welbeck scoring and assisting should keep Kagawa on the bench and Rooney behind him.  Welbeck if he has an injury though could see Rooney play in front of Kagawa.  Neither seems to matter at the moment for Rooney.  He had no goal threat but created chance after chance.

Januzaj’s only problem is rotation.  Today he was excellent with his goal.  His underlying stats were also excellent.  The improvement of Ashley Young though and his young age will continue to see him rotated.  Trying to work out when he willplay is the key.  He’s not your man though if you need a guaranteed starter as a 5th midfielder.

Adrian playing as GK instead of Jaas. Not sure if this is just rotation of an aging GK or something more.  Worth keeping an eye on at £4.3m

 Stoke 2 Villa 1

The Stoke defence didn’t do their home credentials much good today.  No clean sheet against an injured Bentekeless Villa.  Pretty ordinary defensive stats.

In the land of cheapie strikers Crouch is now an option with a goal and an assist.  Its now 2 goals and 4 assists in his last 7.  Fixtures could be better though which may mean a deferral for the moment until a better run comes along.

Sunderland 0 Norwich 0

The cheapie trio of Hooper, Fer and Redmond all had relative quiet games in this 0-0.  It was probably the old fantasy premier league stager of Snodgrass who offer the most attacking threat of Norwich.

Very little attacking threat from Sunderland.  Sunderland have Villa Southampton and Stoke next at home for those fantasy premier league managers thinking of the cheapie Sunderland defence for home rotation.  A word of warning.  This is only their 2nd home clean sheet.  The other was City which should have been 5-0 to Aguero alone.  The 2nd warning is that the defence wasn’t really that solid and Norwich should have scored.

WBA 1 Hull 1

Hull continued with 3-5-2 for those looking for gametime security for James Chester.  He has played 4 consecutive games now since returning from injury.  Hull have Fulham at home sandwiched between Man Utd and Chelsea making immediate clean sheets tricky

That’s it on to Sunday
