fantasy premier league match analysis for Saturday game week 16 – part 2

Gameweek analysis

Here’s the second part of the fantasy premier league analysis of Saturdays matches for game week 16

Wigan 2 QPR2

If this game is any indication of QPR’s ability to stay up then they may as well start playing in the Championship now.  A game Wigan totally dominated from start to finish and only a couple of excellent finishes from poor defending gave them a draw they didn’t deserve.  James McCarthy got 2 goals and has appeared from nowhere to come on the radar of fantasy premier league managers.  A very strange team from Harry with Derry and Hill playing.  Obviously going for experience but to leave out Granero is a big call.

defensive stats

Good defensive stats from Wigan, the Lopez mistake being the crucial moment to let Cisse score.   QPR’s werent as bad as it looked on TV.

player shooting stats

It was a 1 man shooting show from James McCarthy.  No one else was a factor

Pen Box touches  Di Santo led followed by a host of others

Chances created

Beaujesour converted to 2 assists with Diakite

Most forward midfielders

Gomez and Diakite

performances by players owned by more than 10% of fantasy premier league teams

No one in these 2 teams is more than 10% owned.  In my team Taarabt who’s still just in the last 6 games shooting stats was quiet although he got an assist from the corner.

Southampton 1 Reading 0

A game won by a goal and assist from 2 cheapies with attacking potential.  Puncheon showed why he was 3rd in the last 6 game shooting stats with his goal and although Clyne doesnt feature in the defensive shooting stats anybody can see from the runs he makes the  real assist potential he has.

defensive stats

Good from Saints not so good from Reading.

player shooting stats

puncheon followed by Lambert,  Robson Kanu and Tabb.

Pen Box touches – Lambert by a mile followed by Puncheon and Ramirez (despite being a sub)

Chances created

Lambert by a decent margin followed by Schneiderlin

Most forward midfielders

Cheapies Puncheon and Robson Kanu

performances by players owned by more than 10% of fantasy premier league teams

No one qualifies.  Closest for Saints was Lambert who had a good all round game its just with striker positions so precious would you want to have him in there.

No one even close to qualifying for Reading. HRK did himself no harm by hitting the post and being the most forward Reading midfielder

Aston Villa 0 Stoke 0

How has Lambert become a CS expert?  It was a defensive masterclass from Villa.

defensive stats

Fantastic stats from Villa although you have to remember the context of Stokes lack of cutting edge.  Stokes werent that great and Villa should have won.

player shooting stats

Benteke was the only player to make an impression

Pen Box touches    Jones, Benteke Holman and Agbonlahor

Chances created

Holman was te only stat of note

Most forward midfielders

Holman and Walters

performances by players owned by more than 10% of fantasy premier league teams

Only Begovic and Shawcross qualify.  I’ve consistently said that stoke is the best defence outside the elite teams and they continue to show this despite the fixtures. Shawcross is the more expensive option after Cameron
