fantasy premier league match analysis gameweek 5 Saturday part 2

Gameweek analysis

Here’s my fantasy premier league match analysis for gameweek 5 Saturday part 2,   Norwich v Villa, Newcastle v Hull and WBA v Sunderland focusing on player performance and line ups

Line ups and ratings from the Daily Mail

Norwich 0 Aston Villa 1

Norwich: Ruddy 6; Martin 5, Bassong 5 (R Bennett 38 5), Turner 5, Garrido 5; Snodgrass 4, Howson 5, Fer 5, Redmond 6 (Pilkington 63); Elmander 5 (Hooper 63 5), Van Wolfswinkel 5.

Subs not used: Whittaker, Bunn, Hoolahan, Tettey.

Booked: Turner.

Aston Villa: Guzan 7; Bacuna 5, Clark 4, Vlaar 5, Luna 5; El Ahmadi 6, Delph 6, Tonev 5 (Sylla 77); Agbonlahor 6 (Helenius 61 5), Benteke 5 (Kozak 28 7), Weimann 6.

Subs not used: Baker, Bennett, Helenius, Albrighton, Steer.

Goals: Kozak 30.  Assist Agbonlahor

The major surprise in the  Norwich line up was that cheapie Whittaker was on the bench and Martin returned to the team.  No place for Johnson.  Elmander also started instead of Hooper

Bacuna started instead of Lowton who I think picked up an injury. Tonev instead of the injured Westwood.

A game where villa showed their preference for the counter attack and when any hopes that Norwich would become an attacking force with their new transfers are at least postponed if not cancelled.  Norwich were hopeless in trying to chase the game.  The game was marred for around 30% of fantasy premier league managers

Defences

Neither were anything to shout about.  After showing good defensive stats against the top 4 teams I’ve lost faith in the Villa defence after 2 ordinary defensive performances in the last 2 games.  Norwich had plenty of chances to score.  Norwich don’t look like the 8 clean sheet home team of last year at all.

RVW

Had a number of chances to score but didn’t get any on target.  Its now 1 goal in 5 games and its hard to take him as a real option.

Snodgrass

Missed a pen but created chances and took set pieces until ran out of steam in the 2nd half.  Not worth investing in and I would sell until Norwich look like they have some ability to score

Redmond

Falling further behind Barkley and Brady in the cheapie stakes and this game didn’t help.  Kept very quiet

Benteke

Taken off after half an hour.  Doesn’t seem serious according to the manager and 700k odd fantasy premier league managers will be hoping that’s the case

Newcastle 2 Hull City 3

Newcastle (4-3-2-1): Krul 6; Debuchy 5 (Tiote 86), Yanga-Mbiwa 6, Coloccini 6, Santon 5; Sissoko 6, Cabaye 5 (Gouffran 56, 6), Anita 5; Ben Arfa 5, Remy 7; Cisse 4 (Marveaux 74, 5).

Subs not used: Williamson, Sammy Ameobi, Dummett, Elliot.

Hull City (4-4-1-1): McGregor 7; Elmohamady 6, Chester 7, Davies 7, Rosenior 8; Quinn 7 (Boyd 64, 7), Livermore 7, Huddlestone 8, Brady 7 (Meyler 74, 7); Aluko 8; Graham 6 (Sagbo 84).

Subs not used: Bruce, Faye, Proschwitz, Harper. Booked: Huddlestone.

Newcastle Goals:  Remy 2 Assists:  Cabaye Cisse

Hull Goals:  Brady Elmo Aluko  Assists:  Brady Boyd Aluko

No surprises in the Newcastle or Hull line up.

You know your defence is in trouble when Hull put 3 against you.  Newcastle just aren’t a good defensive team despite the clean sheets and today it showed.

Defences

Hull despite 2 goals had pretty good defensive stats.  Newcastles were pretty poor especially considering the attacking capability of the opposition.

Remy

The star of the show by some distance with 2 goals with excellent finishes and backed up by excellent shooting stats.  Away to Everton isn’t the time to invest though and you’ve missed the boat to some extent if you don’t own him now.

Aluko

Played in a withdrawn striker role and a goal and an assist is a good return although possibly outweighing the underlying stats.   Personally there’s no place for cheapies strikers  in my team with all the fantastic alternatives so its a bit irrelevant in my mind although he’s probably just as good a bet as the Chamakhs, Anelka’s and Gayles of this world

Brady

Top chance creator of the day with Cisse .  Helped by a rather uninvolved defensive performance by HBA it has to be said.   Although a goal and an assist flattered him Brady and Barkley have now emerged as the top midfield cheapies and today reinforced that.  Home to West Ham isn’t a bad next fixture either

HBA

If you had seen the score at the end without knowing who scored and assisted you  would have been shocked to then see that HBA had no part in it.  Well that’s not quite right, his standing around watching the left sided Brady and Boyd get the first goal and create the winner respectively had a profound effect on the game.  He did  have some of the ingredients to produce attacking output, high average position, good pen box touches and heavy game involvement but no shots or  chances created to show for it let alone a goal or assist.  I guess HBA comes with streaks and a 40% consistency rating takes some patience but this was so disappointing.

WBA 3 Sunderland 0

West Brom: Myhill 6, Jones 7, McAuley 7, Olsson 6, Ridgewell 7; Morrison 7, Mulumbu 7; Amalfitano 8, Sessegnon 7, (Berahino 89) Sinclair 6; (Yacob, 68, 6) Anelka 6. (Anichebe, 68, 6)

Subs not used: Camp, Popov, Rosenberg, Lugano,

Booked:

Scorers: Sessegnon 20, Ridgewell 76, Amalfitano 90  Assists:  Sinclair Anichebe

Sunderland: Westwood 6, Celustka 5, Diakite 5, O’Shea 6, Colback 5; Giaccherini 4, (Mavrias 46, 5) Gardner 5, (Cattermole 68, 6) Ki Sung Yeung 5; Borini 5, (Altidore 59, 6) Fletcher 5, Johnson 5

Subs not used: Mannone, Ba, Cuellar, Ji Dong-Won

Booked: Ki Sung Yeung, Colback

Nothing much of a surprise for WBA although Yacob didn’t start.

Borini starting instead of Altidore which was the main surprise

Although Sunderland had their chances it was another defensive mess for Sunderland and they look in real trouble.  A proper LB would help as Amalfitano ran riot.

Defences

Sunderlands was a complete mess and WBA had a load of chances.  WBAs was good although Sunderland did have a couple of good chances.

Amalfitano

Maybe another £5.0m cheapie?  Hard to say with Colback as the LB.  Anyway WBA have the worst fixtures of anyone and are away to Utd next so not the time to take a punt in my mind.

Sessegnon

Good stats, plus a goal, although you have to remember the opposition and how patchy he has been.  Fixtures also make him a not for me at the moment.

Sinclair

Got an assist but way too expensive at £6.0m and same points apply about fixtures so a no for me.

That’s it.  looking forward now to the Sunday games
