fantasy premier league match analysis – gameweek 6 part 2

Gameweek analysis

Here’s the fantasy premier league match analysis for gameweek 6 part 2 with Aston Villa v Man City, Southampton v Crystal Palace,  Hull v West Ham and Fulham v Cardiff.  I’ll be concentrating on line ups and player performance

ASTON VILLA: Aston Villa: (5-3-2) Guzan 7, Bacuna 8, Vlaar 6, Baker 6, Clark 6, Luna 5; Delph 6, El Ahmadi 6, Sylla 5; Weimann 6, (Bowery 79, 6) Kozak 6.
Subs not used: Steer, Bennett, Helenius, Albrighton, Tonev, Lowton.
Goals: El Ahmadi 51, Bacuna 73, Weimann 76  Assists:  Guzan Bacuna Weiman
Booked: Sylla

MANCHESTER CITY: Manchester City: (4-4-2) Hart 6, Zabaleta 8, Kompany 7, Nastasic 6, Kolarov 7; Milner 6, Toure 8, Fernandinho 7, Nasri 6; (Navas 66, 6) Negredo 7, Dzeko 7. (Joevetic 74)
Subs not used: Pantilimon, Richards, Lescott, Garcia,Clichy
Goals: Toure 45, Dzeko 55   Nasri
Booked: Nasri

Lambert with Benteke and Agbonlahor injured changed formation to 5-3-2 allowing cheapie Baker back into the team.  The rest was reasonably predictable except Sylla started instead of Tonev

Fairly predictable City team except Navas was rested with Milner coming in and Dzeko and Negredo both played with Jovetic on the bench.

This was a game where you wondered how City lost.  67% possession and a shot count that was ridiculously one sided. Still its only the score that counts.  City had enough chances to win easily and it was quite  telling that both goals came from set pieces and not open play.  City would have done if Villa didn’t take virtually every half chance put in front of them.

Defence

Wasn’t Kompany supposed to come back and everything would be ok? Despite conceding 3 goals this game didn’t represent that for City.  I’m classifying it as unlucky as Villa really had very few chances.

Bacuna

A goal and assist from the RWB.  Takes a handy free kick and at £4.6m becomes another cheapie midfield option.

YYT

Incredibly 4 goals in 6 games and another chapter in the rise of the box to box midfielder in fantasy premier league.  A little different than Ramsey in the sense that a number of goals have come from set pieces but still got into the box alot in this game.  How long he can keep replicating this is the story though. In the last 3 seasons he’s scored 6 goals in the premier league and already he’s up to 4.  Granted Pellegrini is a ore attacking coach but if anything YYT has played deeper this year.  Personally I cant see him continuing to knock free kick in like this
SOUTHAMPTON (4-2-3-1): Boruc 6; Clyne 6, Fonte 7, Lovren 7, Shaw 6; Wanyama 6, Schneiderlin 6; S Davis 6 (Ward-Prowse 67 5), Lallana 7 (Ramírez 86), Osvaldo 7; Lambert 8 (Rodriguez 77).
SUBS NOT USED: K Davis, Cork, Chambers, Hooiveld.
BOOKED: S Davis
GOALS: Osvaldo 47, Lambert 49  Assists  Lallana Osvaldo

CRYSTAL PALACE (4-3-3): Speroni 6; Ward 6, Mariappa 5, Gabbidon 5, Moxey 5; Dikgacoi 5, Jedinak 5, Bannan 5 (Jerome 57); Kebe 6 (Phillips 72 5), Gayle 5 (Thomas 58 5), Chamakh 4.
SUBS NOT USED: Price, Parr, Campana, O’Keefe.
BOOKED: Chamakh, Mariappa

Only surprise in the Saints team was that Davis retained his place from midweek over Rodriguez.

Bannan and Kebe in the side were the only surprises for me in the Palace team

defences

Both teams defended quite well but it was another clean sheet for the Southampton collection

Lambert and Osvaldo

Both scored with Osvaldo also getting an assist but neither laid siege to the goal and both only had 1 shot in the box each. Nothing to suggest we should be dropping the current existing crop of strikers

Lallana

Returned an assist and gets in to the box and stays forward regularly.  Didn’t make much of a shooting impression.  if you were going to buy him this week home to Palace was the time otherwise you’ve missed the boat

Hull 1 West Ham 0

HULL (4-4-2): Hull: McGregor 7; Rosenior 6, Faye 7, Davies 7, Figueroa 7; Elmohamady 6, Livermore 8; Huddlestone 8, Brady 7 (Meyler 81 mins); Aluko 7 (Boyd 88mins) , Graham 6 (Sagbo 71 mins, 6).
Subs: Harper, Bruce, McShane, Quinn.
Goals: Brady 12 (pen).  Assist:  Graham
Bookings: Graham 45.
Manager: Steve Bruce 7.

WEST HAM (4-5-1): Jaaskelainen 6; O’Brien 6, Tomkins 7, Reid 7, Rat 6; Diame 5 (Downing 71 mins, 6), Noble 7, Nolan 6, Morrison 6, Jarvis 7 (Vaz Te 71 mins, 6); Maiga 6 (Petric 59mins, 6).
Subs: Adrian, Taylor, Collins, Demel.
Bookings: Nolan 8, Morrison 73.

£3.9m cheapie Faye came in for 6-8 week injured Chester at CB.  No surprises in the rest of the team

Cheapie £4.6m Collins was dropped for West Ham.  O’Brien and rat were the FBs. Maiga held his place.

Defences

Hull despite the clean sheet were under siege from West Ham who had reasonable defensive stats.

Brady

The only Hull attacking player worth owning with another goal from the spot.  With Barkley the best cheapie option.

Nolan

Another quiet game and its a goal and assist in 6 games plus an away game against Spurs means its a definite time to sell for me

Fulham 1 Cardiff 2

FULHAM (4-2-3-1): Stockdale 7; Reither 6, Hangeland 5, Amorebieta 5, Richardson 6; Parker 5 (Karagounis 7, 6), Sidwell 6; Kasami 6, Berbatov 6, Kacaniklic 5 (Ruiz 41, 7); Bent 6 (Taarabt 86)
Goal: Ruiz 45 Assist:  Reither
Booked: Berbatov

CARDIFF 4-1-4-1: Marshall 6; Theophile-Catherine 6, Caulker 7, Turner 7, Taylor 6; Medel 7; Odemwingie 7 (Bellamy 81), Gunarsson 6, Kim 6 (Mutch 56, 7), Whittingham 7; Campbell 7 (Maynard 72mins 6)
Goals: Caulker 12, Mutch 90  Assists: Whittingham
Booked: Theophile-Catherine

No real line up surprises for Fulham except maybe Ruiz not starting

Cardiff was as expected except Odemwingie came in for Campbell

Fulham continued to show what a poor side they were and Cardiff should have won more comfortably

Player comments

Kasami

£4.6m cheapie midfielder has started 5/6 games but with Bent and Berba set to be the starting forwards and multiple competition for the flank positions he’ seems a risky investment for little return to me

Berbatov

With 1 assist in his opening 5 games he’s been a dismal failure on all levels.  Has Palace away in GW8 so if you do own him I would hold until then and sell before GW9 away to Saints unless some massive transformation happens

Whittingham

A goal and 2 assists in his 6 opening games is a good return for the man in control of set pieces and pens for Cardiff.  a decent cheap midfield option

Campbell

Since his spectacular 2 goals against City its been no returns in 4 games since then and  3 consecutive substitutions.  Had one good chance to score here and posted reasonable stats but looks a sell to me given the difficult choices to be made in the striker position.  Would probably hold for the Newcastle home game in GW7 and the sell before going to Chelsea
