Surprising from the Reading front that Le Fondre didn’t make it to the starting line up for Reading.  Also Kebe in for Robson Kanu was another surprise given his good form.

Only surprise in the Arsenal team was Walcott starting up front instead of Giroud

Brief match commentary

What can you say about this game.  Arsenal had a lot to prove after the Bradford game and they couldn’t have had a more inept team to accommodate their come back .  An absolutely abysmal defensive performance from Reading which made you wonder why the score didn’t end up 10-0.

defensive stats

Excellent defensive stats from Arsenal which didnt warrant the 2 goals against vs probably the worst defensive stats I’ve seen from any team this season

player shooting stats

Walcott followed by Cazorla and Podolski dominated the stats.

Pen Box touches were Walcott, Cazorla, Gibbs and Podolski

Chances created

Cazorla with Podolski well behind and the Gibbs and Wilshire

Most forward midfielders

Kebe and obviously Walcott for Arsenal as he was playing as a striker

performances by players owned by more than 10% of fantasy premier league teams

Mertesacker – Keep faith with the Arsenal defence there’s nothing wrong with it despite what you may read.  They totally didn’t deserve the 2 goals against them on the balance of stats.  Personally I think Gibbs is the best option but the defence is generally very strong.

Cazorla – the fantasy premier league old adage of “form is temporary fixtures are permanent” was never more apparent than this game.  I’ve been tearing my hair out with this guy over the last few weeks and the stats have been nothing shot of depressing as he slipped off the last 6 shooting stats and down the overall shooting stats.  Yet with the fixtures to come there seemed no reason to sell him and low and behold along came Reading with their worst defence in the league to right everything that’s gone wrong.  Never ignore fixtures in a sell decision.

Other players worth commenting on

Walcott – An Arsenal midfielder playing as a striker… Hmmm where have we been there before, that’s right the car crash that was Gervinho.  However the next 4 fixtures are very enticing and at £8.5m maybe worth the risk

Le Fondre and Robson Kanu – Really why would you leave these guys out after the form they’ve shown and tonight both returned. It shows that  nothing is predictable in the world of McDermott apart from maybe Shorey and Federici, the latter of which there’s no competition for.

Thats it for fantasy premier league GW17, on to GW18
