Player analysis

Defences

The West Ham defence came up against a powder puff attack and looked a complete mess.  Poor stats.  Is this the Winston Reid absence effect or just a one off.  Not the time to buy anyway next week home to Chelsea in fantasy premier league GW12.   Norwich’s were pretty much as expected  – ordinary

Snodgrass

His set piece domination means Snodgrass is the most obvious player to buy.  Today he scored from a free kick and although apart from that had limited goal threat he did top the creating chances table by some distance.  Incredibly it his first return of the season.

Fer

Scored today.  Does produce the odd good underlying stat performance as he did today but when it comes down to it, its 1 goal and 1 assist for the season which again is hard to tempt any fantasy premier league manager with

Elmander

2 assists but don’t be tempted it was 2 chances created and 2  assists so probably not a pointer to a dramatic upturn in his fortunes.  These are his first returns in 8 appearances

Nolan

Continues to have the highest average position, the most pen box touches and the best shooting stats for West Ham since they started the 4-6-0 formation.  While you may not think that’s particularly impressive in the context of West Ham the stats have been genuinely good.  This is his first return in 4 though.  However we have been here before with Nolan good stats but no returns. He will explode at sometime though as he did with a hat trick on the last day of the last fantasy premier league season.  With Fulham, Palace and Sunderland in 3 games of 4 after Chelsea it may be a punt worth taking.

Morrison

Interestingly had an average position nearly as high as Nolan.  However despite the tap in goal, the stats were fairly meager with little shooting and creating chances stats

Aston Villa 2 Cardiff 0

Aston Villa: Guzan, Clark, Vlaar, Baker, Bacuna, Sylla,
Westwood, El Ahmadi (Lowton 74), Tonev, Kozak, Benteke. Subs not used: Helenius, Steer, Herd, Bowery, Johnson, Robinson.

Goals:  Bacuna, Kozak   Assists: Lowton

Cardiff: Marshall, Theophile-Catherine, Caulker, Turner,
Taylor, Medel, Cowie, Gunnarsson (Mutch 65), Whittingham, Bellamy (Maynard 82), Odemwingie (Campbell 55). Subs not used: Hudson, Kim, Noone, Lewis.

Lineups:  Clark played at LB again in Lunas absence.  Kozak played up front with Benteke in Weimann’s absence.  Sylla and Tonev also came into the team.

Gunnarson came in for Mutch  for Cardiff in the only change from last week.

Player analysis

Incredibly 4 clean sheets from Villa and 2 consecutive ones is pretty impressive.  Stats were good here as well.  Cardiff’s weren’t particularly impressive.

Benteke

Incredibly its 5 appearances without a goal now.  Stats were good though and there were enough chances to suggest the goals will come though.  Sunderland H and Fulham A in the next 4 are good chances to get back on track.

Whittingham

Did have some set piece involvement but its now 5 games with no returns and even for a cheapie that’s starting to set alarm bells.  Fairly minimal attacking output, just creating a couple of chances.  With Man Utd and Arsenal next this maybe a good time to sell

Campbell

3rd sub appearance in his last 4.  No returns since his heroics in fantasy premier league GW2.  If you haven’t sold already do so now

Mutch

Potential cheapie Mutch was dropped to the bench and in his 26 minutes  did nothing.  No return in 3 and definitely time to sell if you took that punt.
