fantasy premier league match review – GW3 – Saturday’s matches

Burnley 0 Man Utd 0

Burnley (4-4-2): Heaton 7; Trippier 6.5, Duff 7, Shackell 8, Mee 6; Arfield 6, Jones 7, Marney 6.5, Taylor 6 (Reid, 88, 6); Ings, 5.5 (Barnes, 78, 6.5), Jutkiewicz, 6.
Subs not used: Gilks, Ward, Long, Wallace, Sordell, Barnes.
Booked: Marney, Reid.
Man United (3-5-2): De Gea 7.5; Jones 6, Evans 6, Blackett 5.5; Young 6, Fletcher 6, Di Maria 7 (Anderson, 70, 6), Mata 5.5 (Januzaj, 87, 6), Valencia 5.5; Rooney 6, Van Persie 6.5 (Welbeck, 73, 6.5).
Subs not used: Amos, Hernandez, James, M. Keane.
Booked: Fletcher, Blackett.

Lineup comment:

No surprises in the Burnley lineup.  Man Utd stuck with 3-5-2 with Di Maria playing next to Fletcher although Fletcher is to sit where as Di Maria has licence to go forward.

Player comment:

Rooney – Another worringly quiet game where he was crowded out as Burnley packed the centre of the pitch.

RVP –  Looked lively and had 1 very good chance to score.  A reasonable return to the team even if he produced a blank

Mata – Another player worringly quiet and didn’t create a single chance for a team mate

Di Maria – One glorious pass for RVP and looked lively in bits but not that much attacking output

Arfield – the £5.0m FPL midfielder was Burnley’s most threatening player.  A little limited by the need to cover Trippiers forward runs is the negative

Man City 0 Stoke 1

Man City: Hart 6, Sagna 6.5, Kompany 5.5, Demichelis 5.5, Kolarov 5.5, Silva 6.5, Fernando 6 (Fernandinho 38, 5), Toure 6.5, Nasri 6 (Navas 63, 6), Jovetic 6 (Dzeko 63, 5.5), Aguero 6.5.
Subs not used: Zabaleta, Milner, Caballero, Clichy.
Booked: Fernandinho, Toure.
Stoke: Begovic 7.5, Bardsley 7.5, Shawcross 7.5, Wilson 7.5, Pieters 7, Walters 6 (Odemwingie 45 – 6.5, Adam 65 – 6), Whelan 7, Nzonzi 7.5, Moses 6.5 (Muniesa 80), Crouch 7, Diouf 8.
Subs not used: Huth, Arnautovic, Bojan, Sorensen.
Goals: Diouf 58.

Lineup comment:

The revolving FB position continued with Sagna and Kolarov starting.  Aguero started instead of Dzeko and played the whole game.

Interesting team for Stoke with Walters, Moses and Crouch coming in.  Bojan didn’t even get on

Player comment:

Aguero: Frustrated by the deep lying Stoke defence.  Had shots but in the main those close in were blocked.  Played as the most forward player.

Dzeko:  Very lively when came on and had lots of chances.  Just didn’t score.

Jovetic: Really dropped deep and didn’t have a shot or create a chance.

Silva:  Created a few chances but no shot threat again

Joe Hart: Can’t afford to concede many more goals like this

The Stoke defence: A heroic performance but had the rub of the green and were seriously under the kosh the whole game

Newcastle 3 Crystal Palace 3

Newcastle United: Krul 5.5, Janmaat 7 (Anita 79, 6), Haidara 6, Colback 6.5, Williamson 6.5, Coloccini 6, Cabella 5, Sissoko 5.5, Riviere 5, De Jong 5 (Ayoze 79, 6), Gouffran 4.5 (Aarons 67, 8).
Subs not used: Elliot, Obertan, Taylor, Dummett.
Booking: Aaron (88).
Goals: Janmaat (37), Aarons (73), Williamson (88).

Crystal Palace: Speroni 6.5, Delaney 6.5, Dann 6.5, Mariappa 6, Kelly 6.5, Puncheon 7.5, Bolasie 6.5 (Murray 83, 6), Ward 6.5, Jedinak 7, Chamakh 6 (Campbell 51, 6), Gayle 7 (Zaha 70, 7).
Subs not used: Hennessey, Hangeland, Williams, Bannan.
Goals: Gayle (1), Puncheon (48), Zaha (90).
Bookings: Mariappa (41), Chamakh (44), Murray (88).

Lineup comment:

Haidara coming in for cheapie Dummett was the only real surprise

A few changes for Palace from Warnock.  Mariappa and Kelly were the FBs with Ward moving into midfield.  Gayle led the line instead of Campbell.  Zaha started on the bench.

Player comment:

Aarons:  The £5.0m 18 yo Newcastle midfielder was brilliant when he came on with a goal and an assist.  Will be interesting if he can get in the team as good value for an attacking player.

Zaha: The £5.4m midfielder came on as a sub for Palace and absolutely transformed the game.  Great value but will need to oust Bolasie who has been good for Palace

Puncheon:  Scored but didn’t have that many chances.

Cabella and De Jong: Cabella may have got an assist but for the price against this opposition both were disappointingly quiet in a game of so many goals.

QPR 1 Sunderland 0

Goal:  Austin

QPR (4-3-3): Green 6.5; Isla 5, Ferdinand 5.5, Caulker 6, Hill 5; Fer 7.5 (Taarabt 90), Barton 6, Mutch 6.5; Phillips 6, Austin 7.5 (Zamora 68 5), Hoilett 6 (Traore 83).
Subs not used: Murphy, Onuoha, Henry, Dunne.
Booked: Mutch

Sunderland (4-4-2): Mannone 6; Vergini 5 (Altidore 81), Brown 5, O’Shea 5, van Aanholt 5; Cattermole 5, Larsson 5.5, Rodwell 4.5 (Giaccherini 69 5), Johnson 5.5; Wickham 5.5, Fletcher 5 (Buckley 69 5).
Subs not used: Pantilimon, Jones, Bridcutt, Gomez.
Booked: Cattermole, Giaccherini

Lineup comment:

With Chelsea operating the QPR release clause Remy was left out.  Austin was pretty much the lone forward.  Hill started instead of Dunne.

No surprises in the Sunderland lineup.

Player comment:

Austin:  Scored with the only real chance.  At £5.9m quite expensive though

Rodwell:  A couple of chances for the box to box midfielder.  Not a bad performance with no return

Mutch:  Another hugely disappointing performance

Swansea 3 WBA 0

Swansea (4-2-3-1): Fabianski 6, Rangel 6, Amat 6, Williams 6, Taylor 5.5, Ki 6.5, Shelvey 7.5 (Carroll 84), Dyer 8, Sigurdsson 6.5, Routledge 7.5 (Montero 66), Bony 5.5 (Gomis 76)
Subs (not used): Tiendalli, Tremmel, Richards, Fernandez
Booked: Ki (73)
Goals: Dyer (2 & 71), Routledge (24)

West Brom (4-2-3-1): Foster 5.5, Wisdom 5.5, Dawson 6.5, Olsson 5, Davidson 6 (Gamboa 72), Dorrans 5.5 (Sessegnon 46), Gardner 6, Mulumbu 6, Brunt 5 (Morrison 72), Berahino 6, Ideye 5.5
Subs (not used): Baird, Yacob, Myhill, McAuley
Booked: Dorrans (27), Gardner (62)

Lineup comment:

No real surprises in the Swansea lineup.  No Gomis so Siggy lines up centrally

No real surprises in the WBA lineup either

Player comment:

Bony – A load of chances and probably can’t believe he didn’t score

Dyer – 2 chances 2 goals in lethal finishing

Berahino – A couple of chances and got into the penalty area a lot but no return.

Siggy –  Very little penalty area action or shots.  However 2 assists as he became the chief chance creator in the side

West Ham 1 Southampton 3

West Ham (4-2-3-1): Adrian 5; O’Brien 4.5, Tomkins 5, Reid 5, Cresswell 5; Kouyate 6.5, Noble 7; Downing 5.5, Zarate 6 (Morrison 57), Vaz Te 5 (Diame 58); Cole 5 (Valencia 79)
Subs not used: Jaaskelainen, Sakho, Demel, Poyet.
Goals: Noble 27
Booked: O’Brien, Cresswell

Southampton (4-2-3-1): Forster 6; Clyne 6, Yoshida 6, Fonte 6.5, Bertrand 6; Long 6 (Ramirez 66), Schneiderlin 8.5; Steven Davis 6, Ward-Prowse 7 (Cork 71),, Tadic 7.5; Pelle 6.5.
Subs: Kelvin Davis, Gardos, Wanyama, Mayuka, Hooiveld.
Goals: Schneiderlin 45 and 68, Pelle 83
Booked: Pelle

Lineup comment:

No surprises in the West Ham lineup.  Still no Enner Valencia

Wanyama was surprisingly dropped and Both Davis and JWP started

Player comment:

Schneiderlin – 2 goals.  Do we have another box to box option?

Pelle – Scored and a really strong performance from the leader of the line

Tadic – no returns but created chances and got forward on a number of occaisions.  Returns look like they will come.  Quite expensive.

Everton 3 Chelsea 6

Everton XI: Howard, Baines, Distin, Jagielka, Coleman, Barry, McCarthy, McGeady, Naismith, Mirallas, Lukaku
Everton subs: Joel, Gibson, Besic, Osman, Stones, Alcaraz, Eto’o

Chelsea XI: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Matic, Fabregas, Ramires, Willian, Hazard, Costa
Chelsea subs: Cech, Filipe Luis, Zouma, Mikel, Schurrle, Salah, Drogba

Lineup comment:

McGeady started for Everton instead of Osman.

For Chelsea after all the talk about Costa he started.  Willian started instead of Schurrle.

Player comment:

The Chelsea defence:  Not what you expect from a minimum cost of £6.5m.  A continuation of ordinary defensive performances to start the season

Diego Costa:  2 goals and excellent finishing in 1 on 1 situations.

Ivanovic:  Another outstanding attacking performance.  Very expensive.  Depends on whether you think the defence will improve as surely goals can’t be enough for a £7.1m FB

Fabregas:  Another assist but no shots in the box again and no pen box touches.  Can he score enough to warrant the price?

Hazard: 2nd away performance without a single shot.  His assist for the Coleman OG was the only chance created as well.

Good luck today
