Here’s our fantasy premier league midfield player rankings GW2 article . There’s a range of stats plus commentary on each and their first fixtures
FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE MIDFIELD PLAYER RANKINGS GW2
First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.
Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player.
I’ve also done an article on Zaha replacements which looks at players £7.5m and under. There’s also a defensive player ranking
STATS DEFINITIONS
Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW2 fixture ease article
Mins per FPL pt: How long it took to earn an FPL point in 16/17. The lower the better
PPG: the points per match taken from the FPL site
Underlying stats: I’ve taken underlying shot and key pass stats from whoscored.com and tried to put them into a meaningful number. The higher the better

THE TABLE
I’ve ranked the players in the order that I see them. However there’s enough info for you to make an assessment.
Mane
The Liverpool LAM has a great fixture at home to a Palace next that was shambolic last week in defence. He hasn’t shown any issues moving to the left to accommodate Salah. Great season in 16/17 when on the pitch. Next couple of fixtures are far more difficult but Liverpool can score against anyone
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (H)
Man City (A)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Alli
The Spurs midfielder is notionally a LAM but pretty much plays as a support striker. He will often park himself in a CF position when Spurs have structured possession around the box. He’s also often advanced enough when not in possession to play a leading part in the counter.
Having said all that it was a quiet game against Newcastle but when needed he timed his run into the box to perfection to score. Chelsea doesn’t look such a daunting fixture next with the injuries and suspensions
Chelsea (H)
Burnley (H)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A
Mkhitaryan
The Man Utd RWM still has to get over the mistrust that Mourinho had with him in the premier league. That does make him a rotation risk if his selection is biased to the Champions League. However, this is a fairly common risk with all the top 7 teams apart from maybe Arsenal who I have to believe will play a 2nd string team for the Europa. Will have some set piece responsibility
However pre-season and the opening game against West Ham certainly hasn’t done him any harm for this season
Swansea (A)
Leicester (H)
Stoke (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
De Bruyne
It was a pretty disappointing performance from the Man City creative midfielder against Brighton. He didn’t make a single key pass or have a shot inside the box. However it’s only 1 game and a player of his quality shouldn’t be disregarded for 1 performance. Will have the majority of set pieces.
Everton (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Liverpool (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Eriksen
Really good start for the Spurs creative midfield player with 2 assists and 12 FPL points. Also had a good shot threat and did outshine a quiet Alli. The reason I’m a little negative on him is his continual dropping to get the ball and his rather wasteful shooting from outside the box. A very good start though for a player who will monopalise Spurs set pieces
Chelsea (H)
Burnley (H)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Salah
A goal and an assist was a great return to the premier league. The reason I’ve ranked him at a lower level is that 1 game at Watford doesn’t get away from the fact that he is a practically new player to the PL with an adjustment to go through. He also was fairly wide even though his shot count was excellent
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (H)
Man City (A)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (A)
Mata
Mata is actually a reasonable price for a Man Utd creative midfielder. Playing in the 2 of 4-1-2-3 isn’t ideal and the threat of rotation is heightened by the risk of Herrera taking his place in some games. That’s before you take into account the substitution magnet that he is. However if you’re going to punt on him now is the time to do so with the fixtures
Swansea (A)
Leicester (H)
Stoke (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Tadic and Redmond
I’ve grouped these 2 misfits Southampton AM’s together because they’re both of similar vein. All underlying stats and fixtures and no end product. To go with one of these guys you’ve got to believe that eventually they will put the ball into the net. If you’re ever going to roll the dice though the fixtures just couldn’t be much better
West Ham (H)
Huddersfield (A)
Watford (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Man Utd (H)
Stoke (A)
Ozil
Played the 90 minutes against Leicester so obviously fit. Did blank but not through the lack of setting others up. Does play in an advanced position of the 2 in 3-4-2-1. Next fixture isn’t particularly Ozil friendly
Stoke (A)
Liverpool (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)
Brighton (H)
