Here’s some comparable player stats to give some context with his  fellow strikers Cisse and Ayoze Perez as a comparison to start with:

Comparable players 14/15
 Playermatchesgoals/assts Mins per G/A
 Gomis (SWA) (£7.0m)317/1206 mins
 Sakho (WHM) (£6.5m)2310/2146 mins
 Diouf (STK) (£6.5m) 3412/3162 mins
 Cisse (NU)(£6.5m) 2211/197 mins
 Berahino (WBA) (£6.5m) 3814/1194 mins
 Murray (CPL) (£6.0m) 177/3871 mins
 Ulloa (LEI)  (£6.0m) 3711/4160 mins
 Perez (NU)   (£5.5m) 367/0338 mins

So his stats are very good.  It’s worth adding though that he appears to be a bit of a hot head with 18 yellow cards in the last 3 years.  The obvious issue is the relevance of stats from the Belgian League.  It’s worth noting though that in last years Champions League he scored aghainst Arsenal and Dortmund although his total Champions League stats aren’t that great.

He compares well with strikers in a similar price range again subject to the league comparison although his team mate Cisse has fantastic stats on a per minute basis.  His season was blighted by injury though.

FPL Prospects

Gametime wise things are a little uncertain.  New manager Steve McLaren has been showing that at the moment 4-2-3-1 with Cisse leading the line and De Jong in the hole behind is the most likely scenario.  £13m is alot for a back up though although as a 20 year old he fits with the investment criteria shown by Mike Ashley albeit a more expensive one.  However unless he features as a partner in pre-season to Cisse in a different formation then there has to be a degree of risk attached to him starting in GW1

Here’s Newcastles fixtures:

Southampton (H)
Swansea (A)
Man Utd (A)
Arsenal (H)
West Ham (A)
Watford (H)

Sonot the easiest fixtures by any stretch of the imagination.  That makes no compelling reason to jump straight away.

Here’s Newcastles remaining pre-season games:

22 July v Portland Timbers (Providence Park, Oregon) 3.30am
26 July
v Sheffield United (Bramall Lane) 1pm
29 July
v York City (Bootham Crescent), 7.45pm
1 August
v Borussia Moenchengladbach (St James’ Park)

SUMMARY

Good stats from Anderlecht. Much easier league though than the premier league

Good record though in last years Champions League

Gametime unsure due to Cisse and McLaren playing 4-2-3-1 in preseason.

Tough fixtures to start with negate any reason to rush in

Preseason may give further clues to gametime probability
