Here’s Southampton’s fixtures to start the season:

Newcastle (A)
Everton (H)
Watford (A)
Norwich (H)
WBA (A)
Man Utd (H)

So good fixtures.  I’ve ranked them the 2nd best fixtures for the first 6 and the best for the first 3 with 3 very porous defences from last season.  The good news is the 2 Europa League ties should hopefully give us a good indication of the GW1 lineups unless they get an incredibly easy draw.  As I write this Pelle has to be the slight favourite for our FPL teams even with his indifferent form last season.  Everyone given Koemans record of tinkering has gametime risk in the ongoing fixtures.   Mane started the last 7 with great returns so he has to be next in line for our teams consideration.  I’m saying all this prior to seeing FPL prices.

Here’s Southamptons pre-season schedule:

8 July v RB Leipzig (Sportklub Bischofshofen, Austria), 6pm
11 July v Valencia (Red Bull Arena, Salzburg), 3pm (45min match)
11 July v Werder Bremen or Red Bull Salzburg (Red Bull Arena, Salzburg) TBC (45min match)
18 July v Groningen (Euroborg) 1.30pm
21 July v KVV Quick 1920 (Sportpark Vondersweijde), 6pm
23 July v Feyenoord (De Kuip) 7pm
30 July UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg (Draw not yet made)
2 August Espanyol (St Mary’s Stadium) 3pm
6 August UEFA Europa League third qualifying round second leg (Draw not yet made)

So certainly a good number of fixtures to check out the possible lineup and form.

UPDATED 11/7:  Juanmi is classifield as a forward in FPL and £6.0m

Summary

  • Stats are pretty ordinary compared to team mates
  • Gametime risks with 6 players competing for 3 places
  • Koeman tinkering and Europa League rotation furthers ongoing gametime risk
  • Pre-season Europa Qualifiers should signpost GW1 lineup at least
  • Great fixtures to start ranked 2nd in fixture ease is the attraction
