fantasy premier league news catch up – 10 October 2012

News

Here’s the fantasy premier league news catch up for 10 october 2012 including Sagna/Wiltshire, Fellaini, Enrique, International break injuries and price rises/falls

Sagna and Wiltshire

Arsenal will arrange a closed doors friendly during the international break to help Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna recover from long-term injury.

Wilshere has not played a first-team match since July 2011, owing to various injury problems. Sagna broke his leg in May and has not played since.

Sagna and Wiltshire played for the Under 21s against Reading on the 8/10 and the plan is for another game in the international break

After the Reading game quoted in the Daily Mail, Sagna said:

‘I’ve been waiting for this for five months. When you have such a big injury once, you take it, but twice is hard.

‘I was sad, but the next day I was ready for the challenge, which was to come back stronger. I don’t have any target date — my only aim is to be ready and bring what I can to my team.’

Still no confirmed date for a Sagna return so fantasy premier league owners of Jenkinson still have a reprieve.  Despite his obvious talent its still difficult to see Wiltshire in the 3 of 4-2-3-1 although the positioning of Ramsey instead of Coquelin means that Wenger must be comfortable with Wiltshire in the screening 2.

Fellaini

A statement on the Belgian FA’s website read: ‘Fellaini suffered a small tear at the juncture of muscle and tendon in the knee. The injury was revealed during a scan.

‘Fellaini was injured last Saturday during the match between his club Everton and Wigan Athletic. He will be out three weeks.

‘It has been agreed with his club Everton FC he will rehabilitate in Belgium during this period.’

The obvious beneficiary from this is probably going to be Mirallas who will probably play in the advanced midfield position behind the striker.  However if you’re going to lay out £7.4m for Mirallas then you may as well pay the extra £1m for Jelavic. I therefore don’t think it provides  a huge boost for fantasy premier league managers

International break injuries

McLean’ Whelan, Snodgrass, W Reid and Lukaku are all injury doubts or out for the international break games.   We will follow up on the implications but fantasy premier managers should be cautious over any proposed transfers.

Enrique

Fantasy premier league managers who gambled on Wisdom will be thinking theres still a few more weeks in this with Rodgers saying that Enrique is a couple of weeks until he trains.  The on/off again knee may give Wisdom more games than anticipated.

Here’s what Rodgers said on the official club website:

“He hasn’t been [available for selection] in the last couple of weeks. It’s unfortunate – he’s got a pain in his knee that he was struggling with. We’ve been trying to treat it conservatively.

“Hopefully within the next week to 10 days he’ll be back out on the training field and hopefully there will be no reaction.

“He’s a terrific player, Jose, and has got great qualities. We hope we can get him back sooner rather than later.”

Price rises/falls

No £0.2m rises but 13 £0.1m rises.  Notable ones include Suarez, Aguero, Bale, Cazorla, Jenkinson, Nelsen, Cabaye and Begovic.

A raft of £0.1m falls.  Interesting ones include RVP, De Gea and Cleverley.  No £0.2m falls.
