News

Here’s the fantasy premier league  news of the day including Nasri, Adebayor, Champs league games, Oscar/Mata, Jelavic Dema Ba and price rises/falls

Nasri

Nasri picked up a hamstring injury in the champs league game away to Madrid.  I feel genuinely sorry (I really am, I’m  not being sarcastic!)  for everyone who gambled on Nasri and braved the uncertainty of his game time .  Just as the fixtures are about to improve and just as it seems that it his him and not Silva who will line up every week, he gets an injury and although not confirmed by the club, it seems he will be for 3 weeks.    Every cloud has a Silva lining though and fantasy premier league owners of Silva will be glad to see him getting some game time after being eased back in to the season.  While I’m sure Mancini would rather take it easy with him , especially in away games, he will be hard to leave out as without Nasri and Silva there would be a distinct lack of creativity in the side.

Man U 1 Galatassary 0

A strong team turned out for this and just as well as Utd were lucky to get the win.  De Gea started and played well.  He is still a definite sell though due to the rotation words of SAF in my mind. Those who don’t have cover for him may not be panicked in to selling if they have other areas in their team to fix as this performance maybe enough to get him back in to the premier league side in the short term.  Otherwise all the big guns (including Scholes!) started except maybe Valencia.  This has to signal of a very serious attitude to the champs league by SAF and fantasy premier league owners of all Utd’s assets will have to be prepared for rotation.  United are  bottom of my fixture ease schedule so no reason to hold anyone in my mind apart from Rafael for value and attacking plus RVP, although even this needs some thought.  Im hoping to do an article on this soon.  No Rooney on the bench by the way.

Chelsea 2 Juventus 2

Again a very strong team from RDM (without the benefit of rotation against QPR) with only Oscar being the surprise in the lineup.  Oscar was fantastic and scored 2 goals, the 2nd being an absolute beauty.  He was also notable for his advanced position in the game.  Mata despite being rested on the weekend was on the bench and only came on after Oscar was injured in the 74th minute.  I’m starting to think this is form not rest.  You will have seen from my recent article on him that his underlying stats are awful and if you still have him, sell him after the weekend game against Stoke please.  At the time of writing I’m not sure on the state of his injury but I wouldn’t jump on the Oscar bandwagon for the weekend as RDM was very clear about the champs league being less quick and more suitable for Oscar.  The idea that he will start against Stoke with Wilkinson (subject to his hearing ) and Shawcross, plus any props from the local rugby team who may line up, chasing him around the pitch is unthinkable.

Torres for the 2nd week in a row was woeful and its a good thing for him that Sturridge is injured (see below) and they have no other striker because I’m not sure how long RDM’s patience can go on.

Demba Ba

Comforting words from Pardew as quoted in the Daily Mail for all fantasy pemier league managers wanting to gamble on him for the home game against norwich.  He also isn’t travelling to Portugal which helps the odds of him starting on the weekend.  I cant see Pardew not playing 4-4-2 at home to Norwich even if Cisse’s sickness doesnt prevent him from playing.

‘I have spoken to Demba (about his agent) and told him I was disappointed with some of the comments around him,’ said Pardew. ‘Sometimes it’s out of his control and out of my control.
‘But we know each other well enough, and I’ve got no problems with him, because he is a team player who wants to do his best for the team. He has always been like that. The situation with him is ongoing in terms of his contract, as there is that clause in there and it makes us vulnerable. That’s where we are. It’s still open in the next window.’I just think the agent stuff was people saying things they shouldn’t say, really. It doesn’t really affect myself and Demba, because we’ve got a very good relationship.

‘The bottom line is that you have to get your players to play at their best, and sometimes there are different methods for doing that.
‘If I’m honest, he gave me exactly what I wanted (when he went on at Everton). But I knew there would be a response from him. Sometimes you’ve got to be honest, and I don’t think he’s played particularly well. The same can be said of Papiss Cisse, so he might have to deal with missing out next time.’

Jelavic

The Daily Mail reports that Jelavic will miss 2 weeks, meaning the Swansea and Southampton games unfortunately.  A big disappointment for his owners against 2 sides that are far from perfect defensively.

Mirallas will be the short term beneficiary and did enough against Newcastle to suggest that even when Jelavic is back he could hold the position at RM.   He’s not cheap at £7.4m though.  If you needed any more incentive to own Fellaini (I dont know why you would ?)  then this will give you 2 more games where he will undoubtedly play in the advanced mid position behind the striker

Adebayor

From the official Spurs website

Andre said on Wednesday: “Ade has been struggling with a muscle injury, so he will be out of the game.

No time frames yet but they are normally weeks not days.  I don’t think fantasy premier league managers need any incentive to put Defoe in at the moment as he has to be ahead of Adebayor after the weekend.  This will certainly help any waivering.

Sturridge

Not much information around but it seems Sturridge got a hamstring injury prior to the Juventus game.  Good news for those fantasy premier league  managers who own Torres and think he could get more than the 2 points for turning up and sulking around the pitch.  Another awful performance last night against Juventus and RDM must have been at the point where he may have just put Sturridge in to send a message.  After all who would have thought Defoe could be so effective as a lone striker?

Price rises/falls

no significant changes!  Maybe it was just the double game week and the international break?

That’s it for the fantasy premier league news for today
