fantasy premier league news of the day – 24 September 2012

News

Heres the fantasy premier league news of the day including John Terry, Ballotelli, Agger Vidic Friedel, Luiz, Price rises/falls and Boswinga

John Terry

Announced his retirement from international football.  Not that much of an effect on fantasy premier league managers but anything which means you play less games and get the odd period of rest, especially when your colleagues will be playing, is bound to make you less injury prone and less rotatable.  So fantasy premier league owners should be broadly happy with this

Ballotelli

More negative press in the Mail about Ballotelli and his relationship with Mancini.  Apparently there was a push on him by Mancini when he came off at the end.  Im sure alot of this is people trying to sell newspapers but all this cant but help any fantasy premier league managers brave enough to own Dzeko and even Aguero and Tevez as the more Ballotelli falls out of favour the less likely he is to play in premier league games.  Ultimately if it escalated he would become a filler for the Capital One Cup and The FA Cup.  Heres Mancinis words which don’t make it sound too serious.

‘I don’t remember anything with Mario,’ said the City manager. ‘It’s possible I did (push him).

‘I don’t remember if he asked me something but it’s not important. Mario may think it was important. Was it because he wasn’t playing and came on late? Probably, probably, I don’t know. Tomorrow I will ask him.

‘I’m very sorry today for the players, because it was difficult after Real Madrid. I’m worried because we continue to concede goals. I don’t know why it is happening.

Agger

Crocked by his own player, Agger could be out for the season although the full medical view has yet to come out.  Heres what Rodgers had to say:

….Agger’s doesn’t look good, the medics were saying it might be a medial ligament. We’ll see.’

Needs to be monitored but Liverpools defence really needs Agger.  Its a little early for Coates and Carragher has seen his age catch up with him a bit.  I think any value created by the injury will be offsett by a loss of defensive solidity when the fixtures return

Vidic

If youre a fantasy premier league manager unlucky enough to own anyone in the Utd defence apart from Rafael and if youve paid top dollar for the supposed security and attacking returns of Vidic, then these words from SAF should offer some consolation that at least he looks like he is likely to play against Spurs.  He will undoubtedly not feature against Newcastle in the Cap one cup

‘He was just feeling a bit tight round about his knee and we decided just to give him a break today,’ explained Ferguson. ‘Hopefully he’ll be alright next week.’

Freidel/Lloris

More encouraging words from AVB re the GK situation for fantasy premier league owners of Friedel who didnt panic sell when Lloris was signed.  Hes a reasonable deal at £5.5m although Gallas is better at the moment at £5.0m.  The lack of clean sheets though with such an easy early schedule means AVBs side need some monitoring in this regard

Heres what AVB said as quoted in the Mail

‘We have made Hugo alert that whenever Brad has a bad game we won’t (drop him). These things have to be taken very carefully,’ Villas-Boas said.

‘We don’t doubt Hugo’s dimension and talent but at the moment we are paying respect to a player who is performing very well.’

‘At the right time we will think about it or not and Hugo is an extremely good professional.

‘He wants to come back into the team but he is competing for the jersey and he will get his chance very soon.’

David Luiz

Apart from the fixtures and the rotation risk, I wouldnt be jumping in to buy David Luiz just at the moment as the furore his tackled has generated could very well see a ban imposed.  Good news for owners of Cahill and if you want to sell for the fixtures I understand but it may be worth holding on until the dust settles in this regard.

Boswinga

The 1.1% of fantasy premier league managers who purchased him (paying at least £0.5m) more than other QPR defenders for his anticipated attacking returns would have been disappointed yesterday with a hamstring injury after 3 minutes.  It looks bad and an extensive lay off looks likely. Good news for owners of Onuoha (0.7%) who should see him pick up the slack.  Heres what Hughes had to say as quoted in goal.com
“It is likely to be either a grade one or grade two tear and we will know after we get him scanned,” Hughes told reporters.

“He got the ball early, made a pass and immediately felt something and then had to make a run forward which didn’t help matters. We had no choice but to bring him off and we are hoping it is not as bad as we fear it is.”

Price rises/falls

A load of £0.1m falls.  Significant rise is Fellaini up by £0.2m already to £7.1m
