So nothing wrong with his stats. Interestingly you can see why he left Barca as he only averaged 44 mins per game last season.
His stats are impressive with only Silva matching them in the premier league. However this has to be looked at in the context of Barcas dominance of La Liga. They regularly score 100 goals per season.
FPL prospects
At £9.5m as a midfielder he’s very expensive for a player new to FPL irrespective of his pedigree. If you ask me whether you want a proven player like Silva for £0.5m more then there’s no choice. As far as Chelsea is concerned though, he does give Chelsea coverage at £2m cheaper than Hazard and £1.5m cheaper than Costa. He is also £0.5m more expensive than Fabregas but likely to play in a more advanced position
As far as his position is concerned Mourinho has pretty consistently played 4-2-3-1. The most likely position for Pedro is on the right of the 3 in the attacking midfield 3 behind Costa. He does have versatility though and can play in the 3 of 4-3-3, or as a number 10 or even a false 9. Willian is likely to be the person sacrificed if he plays RW as Willian has just not had the attacking output required for the position. That would be a loss of Willians defensive ability though. Although Pedro is familiar with Barcas high pressing defensive style it’s likely that the tracking back and defensive positioning for a counter attacking style is not so familiar. This maybe one of the reasons why there has been speculation that Ivanovic will be dropped and the more defensive minded Azpilicueta will go to RB to replace that defensive solidity with new acquisition LB Baba Rahman playing there.
Pedro’s pace and ability to get in behind defences should help stretch opposition defences and give more space as well as provide more targets for Fabregas’ through balls.
Here’s Chelsea’s next 6 fixtures:
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Everton (A)
Arsenal (H)
Newcastle (A)
Southampton (H)
The fixtures are a little mixed and don’t make the need to jump straight in to compelling.
Summary
- £9.5m midfielder
- Good stats from Barca but has to be looked at in the context of their La Liga dominance
- Should play on the right of 4-2-3-1 in place of Willian
- Seems expensive compared to Silva and Ozil
- Does give attacking midfield Chelsea coverage at £1.5m cheaper than Hazard. £0.5m more expensive than Fabregas though but in a far more advanced position.
