fantasy premier league player review – how have 8 new transfers started in FPL?

Fantasy Premier League

With a limited budget, one of the keys to doing well in fantasy premier league is choosing your non-superstars wisely. We all know Dele Alli and Romelu Lukaku are likely to excel again in the 2017/18 campaign, but what about those players new to the league or have transferred within the league? Here are eight such players and how they’ve started

fantasy premier league player review – how have 8 new transfers started in FPL?

1. Davy Klaassen (Everton)

Scorer of 14 goals in 33 appearances for Ajax last season (yes, it was the Dutch Eredivisie) and four in four in the Champions League, manager Ronald Koeman will have high expectations of a substantial goals return from his new £23.6 million attacking midfielder. Klaassen also provided nine assists in the league last season. Imports from the Dutch league can take time find their best form in a new league but  it is expected he will eventually become an automatic starter.  So far it’s been a quiet start.   He’s made 2 appearances in the premier league,  1 as sub with no goals or assists.

2. Sead Kolasinac (Arsenal)

Built like a tank, it has been suggested that in Kolasinac, the Premier League has its new Branislav Ivanovic. The versatile Bosnia international can  play at centre-back or left wing back, and is looking like he will be a regular starter. Arsenal kept four clean sheets in the final eight league games last season after switching to a back-three and 6ft Kolasinac should further strengthen the Gunners back-line. He also produced five assists for Schalke in the Bundesliga last season.  With injuries and suspensions to the Arsenal defence Kolasinac has started as a centre back in both premier league games.  With an assist already he’s shown his attacking quality even if the depleted Arsenal defence has not shown last seasons late solidity with 4 goals conceded

3. Javier Hernandez (West Ham)

West Ham snagged one of the lethal penalty box finishers in the game when they signed Javier Hernandez for a bargain fee from Bayer Leverkusen in July. The Mexican didn’t have his best season in the Bundesliga last time out and he wasn’t first-choice in an ultra-competitive Manchester United squad but his goals-to-games ratio off the bench was impressive. He became Mexico’s record scorer earlier this year.  Hernandez or Chicharito as he’s known in FPL has started the season like he never left with 2 goals at Southampton in GW2.  West Ham have a good run of fixtures coming up and he is a popular transfer in for FPL managers.

4. Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City)

In this market, Iheanacho was a bargain for Leicester (they paid just £25 million) and he could ultimately be a bargain in FPL at £6.9m in FPL.   The 20-year-old Nigerian would arguably get in the starting line-up at three-quarters of Premier League clubs, but with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus ahead of him, a regular starting berth has been out of reach at Manchester City. He has the potential to be a revelation at the King Power Stadium with his pace, ability to take on defenders and deadly eye for goal.  However, at the moment he has a toe injury and is a doubt for GW3.  He also has the issue of Okazaki to displace in the team.  Okazaki has scored twice in the opening 2 fixtures and his pressing from the front is key to Leicester’s system.

5. Tammy Abraham (Swansea)

The Chelsea striker notched 23 goals in the league on loan for Bristol City last season and turned down offers to join other clubs this summer.  We can only assume he was given positive assurances about gametime to join Swansea.    However such is the impression that  Fernando Llorente made last season that it seems that his best gametime prospect is to play alongside him as opposed to instead of him.

Abraham has started both fixtures so far in Llorente’s injury absence but has yet to score or assist.  He’ll find the Premier League a different proposition to the Championship but his pace, finishing and general hunger to impress could make him a shrewd acquisition at £5.5m in FPL  if he can establish secure gametime.

6. Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Crystal Palace)

Ex Palace boss Sam Allardyce recently said that the youngster could have been as good as Dele Alli if he’d left Chelsea for first-team football earlier. But instead he remained on the fringes, despite his immense talent. The CM/AM is looking like he will get plenty of game time this season having played 90 minutes in both fixtures to date this season, and one senses that this is his opportunity to step up. Technically assured and strong on the ball, Loftus-Cheek has shown at England youth level that he also has a keen eye for goal, having scored 16 to date.

7. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

The Reds’ big summer signing has the potential to be a revelation on the wing. Like Sadio Mane on the other side, he brings pace and goals in abundance. Not exactly a secret after a successful spell in Serie A with Fiorentina and Roma, Salah will no doubt be a popular choice for fantasy managers and is owned by 26% of FPL managers.  Twenty-nine goals in 61 Serie A starts for Roma over the last two seasons, not to mention 16 assists, shows that Salah is a player of huge potential.   After starting in fantastic fashion against Watford with a goal and an assist he was then benched as part of Klopp’s rotation policy that will effect all Liverpool players at some stage.  Of course, should you get bored of playing fantasy football you could try this football star slot game from CasinoEuro.

8. Victor Lindelof (Manchester United)

The Red Devils had the second best defence in the league last season and with Nemanja Matic brought in to shield it, you just know that Jose Mourinho’s team are going to be equally, if not more, stingy this season. And that will of course mean more clean sheets, which are a defender’s main currency. United paid a hefty £31 million for the centre-back  to give Mourinho additional options after injuries made selection difficult last season in such a crucial position.  However a difficult pre-season and words from Mourinho suggesting he will need time to adjust to the premier league hasn’t seen him start in the first 2 fixtures with Jones preferred as Bailly’s CB partner

So a mixed bag to say the least.  You would say that Salah and Hernandez have been successful but others such as Lindelof and Ihenacho have played 9 minutes between them.  Its sometimes said that picking new players to fantasy premier league football is a bit like the football stars game from CasinoEuro and that’s really how it seems to have worked out again this season.
