Statistics

Here’s his stats from League 1 in France and his time in Belgium. Also his Europa League stats and comparisons with the top Premier league forwards:

Batsuashi stats

His International stats for Belgium are 7 games and 3 goals which is an impressive strike rate of 43% especially since some have been sub appearances.

The stats are good but some way off the best strikers in the premier league.  That’s even before you account for the lower quality of the French League compared to the Premier League.

His fantasy prospects

You may remember Batshuayi from the Euro’s.  He came on against Hungary for Belgium and scored within a minute.

The main issue with Batshuayi is the competition with Diego Costa.  That is also made even more of an unknown because of the new manager Conte.  Conte played 3-5-2 for Italy in the Euro’s and generally played with 2 strikers for Juventus. That would give the potential for Batshuayi to play with Costa upfront.  However 4-2-3-1 would see them in competition.  Batshuayi is a quick forward who can score with either feet.  He is more of a poacher rather than a player who will hold the ball up as a lone forward.  He likes to use his pace by playing off the shoulder of the last defender.  If Conte plays with a lone forward then Costa is the most likely starter.  Only pre-season will tell although it seems likely Batshuayi will start upfront as a pair with Costa.  Even for Chelsea £33m is alot of money for a benchwarmer.

Conte won 3 consecutive titles with Juventus and although was defensive in the Euro’s with Italy this wasn’t the case with Juventus.

Here’s Chelsea’s first 6 fixtures:

Certainly the first 4 fixtures are very good.

Summary

  • Good if not exceptional stats for Marseille
  • Needs Chelsea to play 2 forwards to realistically be a starter.  This seems likely
  • Fast and plays on the shoulder of last forward.  A “poacher”
  • Good first 4 fixtures
  • Pre-season will be vital to learn more of his prospects
