fantasy premier league pre-season friendlies – 27-29 July Liverpool to Wolves

You can see the first part of the pre-season updates for the 27-29 July here

Man Utd 1 Liverpool 4

Manchester United: Grant (Pereira 46), Darmian, Fosu-Mensah, Smalling, Tuanzebe (Williams 81), Mitchell (Chong 71), McTominay, Pereira, Herrera (Bohui 81), Mata (Fred 71), Sanchez (Gomes 81)

Goal: Pereira 31

Liverpool: Grabara (Kelleher 46), Camacho (Jones 65), Klavan (Phillips 46), Van Dijk (Gomez 65), Moreno (Robertson 65), Fabinho (Grujic 65), Lallana (Woodburn 46), Milner (Chirivella 65), Salah (Shaqiri 46), Mane (Ojo 46), Solanke (Sturridge 65)

Goals: Mane(pen) 28, Sturridge 66, Ojo(pen) 74, Shaqiri 82

For Man Utd there’s very little to look at.  The line up is pretty much forced through injuries and World Cup absentees and the form of Sanchez is probably the only thing worth looking at.

For Liverpool we’re looking for the £5.0m RB who will likely be Clyne but for how long when £5.0m Alexander Arnorld is back.  The short term CB will either be £5.0m Gomez or £4.5m Klavan until £5.0m Lovren returns from World Cup rest.  None of those issues were resolved through this game.

Otherwise with Liverpool it’s just how the front 3 lines up in the short term if Firmino isn’t back for GW1.  That will either be £6.0m fwd Sturridge or £7.5m mid Shaqiri with no resolution here as both had good games and scored.

The game was a disaster for Man Utd with Mata possibly the only player coming out with credit.  For Liverpool Mane seems to be on penalties which is an addition for him and a blow for Salah.

Bayern 2 Man City 3

This was a game that only Mahrez, B Silva, and Laporte took part in that you would expect to be first team regulars.  Sane and Mendy never got off the bench.

Mahrez went off through injury although seems ok now and Laporte also went off with a knock but with no club news as yet.  No sign of Otamendi, Ederson, Aguero, D Silva or Jesus. Let alone the England and Belgium players.  What team we will see GW1 v Arsenal is any bodies guess. Hopefully the Community Shield next week will provide some more answers

2 goals from £7.5m mid Bernardo Silva.  The way things are going he could be a short term option.

Porto 0 Newcastle 0

For Newcastle we’re looking at Yedlin as the £4.5m def, Perez as the £6.5m forward and Kenedy as the £5.0m def. Here’s the lineup:

Dubravka (Darlow 72), Yedlin (Sterry 60), Clark (Schar 60), Lascelles, Dummett (Manquillo 45), Murphy (Atsu 72), Diame (Hayden 72), Shelvey (Sung-yueng 72), Ritchie (Longstaff 72), Joselu (Armstrong 72), Perez (Roberts 72)

The game was pretty much Newcastle defence vs Porto attack so not much to take from Perez’s point of view.  Kenedy has been given leave due to his partner giving birth so what that effect has for GW1 is unknown.  Yedlin at least had a sound defensive game which was a positive given some lapses last season

Still 2 more games left against decent opposition

Dijon 0 Southampton 2

Here were looking at whether £4.0m Bednarek can get in the side and RWB £4.5m Cedric.  In attack it’s the security and form of £6.0m fwd Charlie Austin plus new signing £6.5m mid Elyounoussi.

Here’s the lineup:

Saints: McCarthy (Gunn 46), Bednarek (Stephens 46), Vestergaard, Hoedt, McQueen (Reed 66), Romeu (Ward-Prowse 66), Hojbjerg (Davis 46), Bertrand (Targett 75), Armstrong (Elyounoussi 46), Long (Austin 46), Gabbiadini (Redmond 66).

Goals: Long Gabbiadini

The starting defensive lineup still gives some hope that £4.0m Bednarek will start.  No sign of Cedric though.  In attack it was harder to judge.  Austin provided an assist for Gabbiadini but little info on Elyounoussi’s game.

2 more good quality opponents left though in pre-season.

Barca 2 Spurs 2

With so many World Cup players returning late it’s either go £9.5m mid Eriksen and £6.0m def Davies long term or £7.0m mid Moura or £6.0m fwd Llorente and maybe £4.5m Walker-Peters short term and hope for the best. £6.5m Lamela could also join that group is his injury isn’t serious. Moura and Llorente have been in good form pre-season.

Gazzaniga (Vorm 61), Aurier, Carter-Vickers, Davies, Walker-Peters (Sanchez 46), Amos, Sissoko (Nkoudou 35), Lucas (Georgiou 61), Eriksen (c), Son, Llorente (Skipp 46). Substitutes (not used): Whiteman, Eyoma, Marsh.

Goals Son, Nkoudou

Brentford 1 Watford

Here we’re interested in a £4.5m defender Holebas if he can hold his place. Holebas started here but went off with what seems a non serious injury.  Foster is a £4.5m GK option who played all 90 minutes.   £5.5m Deulofeu is also carrying a knock and didn’t feature. £6.0m forward Andre Gray with his 3rd goal in 4 friendlies has suddenly come on the radar.

The side below looks like a possible GW1 side with Doucoure for Charles and Deulofeu for Sema.

Foster (GK); Janmaat (Navarro, 60), Kabasele (Prödl, 60), Britos (Mariappa, 60), Holebas (Masina, HT); Pereyra, Charles (Rodwell, 60), Capoue (C) (Wilmot, 60), Sema (Jakubiak, 60); Success, Gray (Deeney, 60).

Goals;  Gray,  own goal

Just 1 more pre-season game to go

Ipswich 1 West Ham 2

So we’re interested in Ogbonna as the £4.5m defender and £4.5m GK Fabianski who both played 90 minutes.  The rest of the side looked like a GW1 side.  Newcomers £7.0m mids Anderson and Yarmelonko started with Anderson scoring.  £7.0m forward Arnautovic is definitely on the radar.  No sign of the returning Chicharito to see if he changes Arnautovic’s position.  That seems unlikely given Arnautovic’s pre-season form.

Here’s the lineup:

West Ham United: Fabianski, Fredericks, Balbuena (Diop 71), Ogbonna, Masuaku (Zabaleta 71), Obiang (Rice 71), Kouyate (Noble 46), Yarmolenko (Haksabanovic 63), Wilshere (Snodgrass 46), Felipe Anderson (Martinez 63), Arnautovic © (Cullen 81)
Subs not used: Adrian (GK)

Goals: Felipe Anderson 3, Arnautovic 70

Still 2 good quality games to go.

Derby 1 Wolves 2

For Wolves we’re looking at the £4.5m GK Patricio who looks to have unsurprisingly established himself.  £4.0m def Bennett also is on the radar but him not starting in what looks a first choice lineup is disappointing.  £5.5m Mexican international forward Jimenez is also on the radar and despite being sub I think he will start. He was fairly quiet apart from 1 shot though. £6.5m mid Jota is also on the radar and scored here.  Neves though probably was man of the match.

Wolves: Patricio (Norris 61), Doherty, Saiss (Bennett 61), Coady, Boly, Otto (Giles 61), Neves, Moutinho (Gibbs-White 46), Costa, Bonatini (Jimenez 46), Jota (Enobakhare 73).

Unused Subs: Buur, Batth, Hause, Goncalves, Ashley-Seal.
