fantasy premier league preseason catch up – 21-25 July games part 1.

Preseason

Here’s our preseason  catch up part 1 for the 20-25 July.  Well look at player form and lineups and especially looking  for FPL value.  We’ll also give our view on how the potential GW1 lineup is evolving

fantasy premier league preseason catch up – 21-25 July games part 1.

Dallas 0 Villa 2

Aston Villa 1st half: Given, Hutton, Okore, Stevens, Baker, Herd, Bacuna, Gardner, Weimann, Bent, Grealish

Aston Villa 2nd half: Given, Lowton, Senderos, Clark, Bennett, Westwood, El Ahmadi, Delph, N’Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Richardson

Goals: Weimann 44, N’Zogbia 49

Guzan and Vlaar didn’t play and apart from Given it was a team of 2 halves so difficult to take any lineup pointers from it.  2 players had good games who last year were totally out of favour with Lambert.  That was Darren Bent and Charles NZogbia.

No Clues to how the lineup is sahping up but here’s my best guess at the moment

Guzan – Lowton/Bacuna, Vlaar, Baker/Okore, Senderos, Luna – Delph, Westwood, ElAhmadi, Weiman Agbonlahor or with 1 CB taken out and a forward such as  Bent starting

to make a 4-3-3.  Really need a more serious team put out.

RZ Pellets 1 Chelsea 1

Chelsea: (4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic, Zouma, Terry (c), Luis (Ake 60); Van Ginkel (Romeu 60), Matic (Chalobah 81); Salah (Swift 85), Baker (Boga h/t), Brown (Christensen 77); Bamford (Solanke 60).

Unused substitutes: Beeney, Delac

Scorer: Boga 84

Still no World Cup players so again difficult to assess a line up so far.  Also an Austrian team even if it is top flight isn’t the opposition to test form.  Filip Luis started at LB.  Ivanovic at RB but Azpilicueta still rested.  Despite this Chelsea were given a good game.  Ivanovic played well as did the 17 year old Brown.

No changes on how I see the lineup at the moment:  Courtois/Cech – Ivanovic/Azpilicueta, Cahill, Terry, Filipe Luis – Matic Fabregas – Hazard, Oscar/Schurrle/Willian/Salah – Costa

Columbus Crew 0 Palace 2

Crystal Palace: Speroni (Hennessey 46), Ward (Mariappa 51), Dann, Delaney (Ramage 57), Jerome Williams (Boateng 57), Puncheon (Gray 60), Jedinak (O’Keefe 51), Ledley (Bannan 57), Bolasie (Jonny Williams 60), Murray (Chamakh 51), Gayle (Guedioura 60).

Now this is more like it.  A full team involved although no sign of free transfer KeEtings,  A little early for Frazier Campbell as well.  With Moxey and Parr gone the LB position is going to be interesting.  At the moment it was occupied by 19 year old former Forest Green player Jerome Williams who seems unlikely to hold it. Unless they sign someone Mariappa should get RB with Ward LB.  Mariappa gives us a £4.5m defender.  Upfront is the other area of interest.  He should play 2 forwards with Chamkh, Murray, Gayle and Campbell battling it out.  No particular form pointers to look at

Here’s how I see the GW1 lineup at the moment:  Speroni – Mariappa, Dann, Delaney, Ward – Jedinak, Ledley, Puncheon, Bolasie – Muarry/Campbell/Chamkh/Gayle

Tranmere 2 Everton 2

Everton first half XI: Joel, Browning, Garbutt, Duffy, Distin, Lundstram, Barry, Kennedy, Naismith, Pienaar, McAleny.

Everton second half XI: Joel, Coleman, Stones, Alcaraz, Hibbert, McCarthy, Gibson, Osman, McGeady, Long, Hope.

Scorers: Naismith, 26, Osman, 70.

No World Cup players in Mirallas, Baines, Jagielka and Barkley for Everton.  A team with 2 halves with no real first 11 in either.  There’s no value in the defence this season with even Stones £5.5m.  Barkley is £7.0m so Osman at £5.5m looks cheap but has alot of gametime risk.  There’s also no forward at the moment although they have been linked with players and hope to get Lukaku back.

Little to say in terms of form.   Here’s how I see the lineup for GW1 at the moment.  Howard – Coleman Baines Jagielka, Stones/Distin – Barry, McCarthy, Pienaar, Mirallas/Osman – Barkley Naismith

York City 0 Hull 2

Hull City: Allan McGregor, Ahmed Elmohamady (Liam Rosenior 46), James Chester (Alex Bruce 46), Paul McShane (Curtis Davies 46), Conor Townsend, Robert Snodgrass (Sone Aluko 46), David Meyler (Tom Huddlestone 46), Stephen Quinn (Jake Livermore 46), George Boyd (Joe Dudgeon 68), Robbie Brady (Tom Ince 46), Shane Long (Yannick Sagbo 46).

Goals:  Aluko, Sagbo

Hull have Figueroa and Jelavic rested from World Cup duuty.  A sort of first half team that resembles something like a GW1 team with the exception of Huddlestone, Livermore and possibly Rosenior.  Formations will also play a part in Bruces team selection.  Debuts from Ince and Snodgrass.  As far as people to look at Chester is probably the safest defender at £4.5m although if Bruce or McShane started they are £4.0m cheapies.  The midfield looks tricky.  Brady at £5.0m looks good value especially if he gets pens back.  His place is doubtful though.  Snodgrass’ set piece duties are key to any involvement in our FPL teams.  Upfront Long and Jelavic are both £6.0m

The main things to come out of the game was Robbie Brady’s set piece involvement and a lively performance from £5.5m Tom Ince

Here’s how I see the GW1 lineup at the moment with 4-4-2 being the formation.

McGregor – Elmo, Davies, Chester, Figueroa – Huddlestone, Livermore, Snodgrass, Meyler/Brady – Jelavic, Long

Ilkeston 1 Leicester 6

Leicester City first-half XI: Schmeichel, Pearson, Konchesky, James, Morgan, Sesay, Barmby, Taylor-Fletcher, Wood, King, Albrighton

Leicester City second-half XI: Hamer, De Laet, Schlupp, Wasilewski, Moore, Watson, Drinkwater, Hammond, Knockaert, Nugent, Hopper

Goals:  Morgan, Wood, Nugent 2, Hopper, Wilson og

New recruits £4.5m mid Albrighton and  £4.0m defender Upson are our main watchouts.  For those thinking of 3-5-2 then Nugent and new signing Ulloa are also worth scouting at £5.5m  The 2nd half team looked more like a first team but not much can really be taken from it.  Albrighton played as did Nugent but Upson was no where to be seen and Ulloa watched from the sidelines.

Gary Taylor Fletcher in particular had a good game as did Albrighton.  Nugents 2 goals spoke for themselves.

I wont do a lineup at the moment.  Needs a couple more games.

Thats it for part 1.  Part 2 to follow soon.
