fantasy premier league preseason catch up – Sunday 10 August games

Arsenal 3 Manchester City 0 (community shield)

Arsenal: Sczcesny; Debuchy; Chambers; Koscielny; Gibbs; Arteta; Ramsey; Wilshere; Cazorla; Alexis; Sanogo

Manchester City: Caballero; Clichy; Boyata; Nastasic; Kolarov; Toure; Fernando; Jesus Navas; Jovetic; Nasri; Dzeko

Goals: Cazorla 21′, Ramsey 42′, Giroud 60′

Arsenal have rested their 3 German WC winners while Man City rested their Argentinian players and Fernandinho.  A game that Arsenal won surprisingly easily and did nothing to help resolve the Ramsey vs Sanchez debate.  Arsenal easily won the midfield battle by overloading the centre of the pitch and relying on Gibbs and Debuchy to provide the width.  City really struggled to link midfield and attack.  Only when Silva came on did they look likely to produce anything.

The Ramsey vs Sanchez debate would not have been helped by this game.  In 4-3-2-1 Ramsey played alongside Wilshere and Arteta and spent a fair part of the game in deep positions.  However on the counter he is deadly and his goal represented everything that is good about him.  Sanchez played almost as a forward, an inside right if you will and was a constant menace often on the shoulder of the defender.  Ozil who is the master of the through ball would have been licking his lips.  Do you pay the extra for Sanchez’s forward position or do you think that Ramsey will continue last year as a box to box machine either on the counter or finding space in a structured attack.  Another player who was excellent was Chambers.  I can’t think he could take Mertesackers place or even Debuchy but short term he seems likely to.

Dzeko and Jovetic were disappointing as was YYT but Dzeko and Jovetic at least had the reason of lack of service.

form players in pre-season: Man City: Jovetic  Arsenal: Sanogo, Chambers,Sanchez, Ramsey

value players:  Man City: Both Dzeko and Jovetic are good value at £8.5 and £8.0m respectively. If Nastasic or Boyata start they are both bargains at £5.5m and £4.5m respectively.  Neither impressed at the weekend.  It just depends on whether Mangala is fit to play.  Arsenal:  Chambers at £4.5m in the short term is great value.  Debuchy long term at £5.5m is good value.

Potential GW1 lineups: Man City:  Hart – Clichy, Kolarov, Mangala, Nastasic – Fernando, YYT , Silva, Nasri – Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal:  Szczesny- Debuchy, Chambers, Gibbs, Koscielny – Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere – Cazorla, Sanchez – Giroud

Liverpool 4 Dortmund 0

Liverpool: Mignolet, Manquillo (Kelly 84), Johnson (Enrique 62), Skrtel, Lovren, Gerrard, Can (Lucas 46), Henderson (Allen 78), Sterling, Coutinho (Ibe 71), Sturridge (Lambert 74)

Subs not used: Jones, Toure, Sakho, Coates, Suso.

Goals:  Sturridge (9), Lovren (13), Coutinho (48), Henderson (60).

Coutinho was the man of the match and Lovren not far behind in this thrashing of the formidable Dortmund team.   Sturridge showed he would be fit for GW1.  Liverpool have a number of injury issues. Lallana is out for some time.  Agger has no return date and Flanagan and Markovic are expected to be fit for GW1

form players in preseason: Sterling, Coutinho, Henderson, Ibe
Value players: The LB position with probably £5.0m Enrique starting although this gives the possibility of  Johnson at LB and £5.0m Manquillo at RB.
Potential GW1 lineups:  Mignolet – Johnson, Enrique/Flanagan, Lovren, Skrtel – Gerrard, Henderson, Can – Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge

Chelsea 2 Ferencvaros 1

Chelsea: Cech (Schwarzer 46), Azpilicueta (Moses 60), Christensen (Cahill 46), Zouma (Ake 75), Luis (Ivanovic 46), Mikel (Hazard 46), Ramires (Matic 61), Schurrle (Salah 46 (Van Ginkel 79)), Willian (Fabregas 46), Torres (Costa 46), Drogba (Oscar 28).
Subs not used: Terry
Goal: Ramires 51, Fabregas 81

A mixed team that wasn’t much help for GW1 selection.  The defence has some issue s to predict as do the attacing midfieders.  In the attacking positions only Fabreags, Costa and Hazard are certain to start.  Everything else is difficult to predict.

form players in preseason: Terry, Costa, Fabregas
Potential value players: Luis at £6.0m is the value in defence.  Starting this game gave some confidence.  Salah if he can start is the value in midfield until fitness of the sqaud is up.
Potential GW1 Lineup: Courtois/Cech – Azpilicueta/Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry Luis/Azpilicueta – Matic, Fabregas – Hazard, Salah, Oscar/Schurrle/Willian – Costa

Newcastle 1 Real Soceidad 0

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat (Adam Armstrong 84), Mike Williamson (Steven Taylor 67), Fabricio Coloccini (c) (Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa 67), Massadio Haidara (Paul Dummett 59); Moussa Sissoko, Vurnon Anita (Mehdi Abeid 67), Jack Colback (Gabriel Obertan 59), Yoan Gouffran (Rolando Aarons 46); Remy Cabella (Facundo Ferreyra 74); Emmanuel Riviere (Ayoze Perez 67)
Sub not used: Jack Alnwick

Pardew had De Jong, Santon, Tiote and Cisse all injured.   S Taylor and Dummett as £4.0m cheapie defenders look finished for GW1.  The only point of note was that Cabella played behind Riviere with De Jong injured and Pardew opting for 1 strike. De Jong seems unlikely to be fit to start in GW1

Form players in pre-season: Riviere, De Jong
Value players: Shaktar FWD Facundo Ferreyra  At an FPL value of £6.0m he’s good value. Question is though how ready is he to start?

Potential GW1 lineup:Krul– Janmaat, Haidara, Coloccini, Williamson – Colback/Anita, Cabella, Gouffran, Sissoko – Riviere, Ferreyra
