We’ll tell you who’s in form and give our estimate of the potential GW1 lineups. The teams covered in part 2 are Manchester City, Manchester United, QPR, Sunderland, Newcastle, Swansea, WBA, West Ham and Spurs

fantasy premier league preseason – the weekend of 2 and 3 August games – part 2

Olympiakos 2 Manchester City 2

Manchester City: Hart, Clichy (Richards 46), Kolarov, Boyata, Rekik, Fernando (Garcia 46), Yaya Toure (Zuculini 46), Navas (Silva 46), Nasri (Guidetti 46), Dzeko (Milner 46), Jovetic (Sinclair 75).
Unused subs: Caballero, Rodwell, Wright, Huws, Leigh, Denayer, Iheanacho, Lawlor.

Goals:  Jovetic Kolarov pen.

The defence didn’t look anything like GW1 will but the attacking side could do apart from Silva in for Navas.  City looked good going forward and Jovetic again added to his impressive tally.

Form players in preseason:  Jovetic, Navas

Value players:   Dzeko at £8.5m and Jovetic at £8.0m if they can hold their place.  Navas at £7.5 but I think he will drop to the bench.

Potential GW1 lineup:  Hart – Sagna/Clichy, Kolarov/Clichy, Kompany, Nastasic if Mangala not signed – Fernando, YYT,Silva, Nasri/Navas, Dzeko Jovetic

Pellegrini has said Zabaleta, Demichelis, Aguero and Fernandinho unlikely to play GW1.

Real Madrid 1 Man Utd 3

MANCHESTER UNITED (3-4-1-2): De Gea 7; Keane 5.5, Jones 7, Evans 6 (Blackett 45mins 6); Valencia 5.5 (Lingard 61mins 6.5), Herrera 7 (Cleverley 45mins 6), Fletcher 7.5, Young 7 (Shaw 45mins 6.5); Mata 6.5 (Kagawa 61mins 6.5); Welbeck (Zaha 41mins 5.5), Rooney 6 (Hernandez 61mins 7).
Goals: Young 20, 37, Hernandez 80.  (Ratings from the Daily Mail)

Smalling, Rafael and Carrick  were injuries.  RVP not back from World Cup rest.  Who would have thought that Ashley Young could threaten Luke Shaws place?  2 goals in a very impressive display from him.

Form players in preseason: Rooney, Herrera, Mata, Young
Value players:  Rooney as a striking pair with RVP is good value at £2.0m cheaper.  Fletcher if he plays box to box at £5.0m is good value.  He may sit though.
Potential GW1 lineup: De Gea – Smalling, Jones, Evans – Valencia, Shaw/Young, Fletcher, Herrera – Mata, Rooney, Hernandez/Welbeck

Malaga 3 Newcastle 1

NEWCASTLE: Elliot, Yanga-Mbiwa, Coloccini (Williamson 74), S Taylor, Haidara (Dummett 67), Sissoko (Aarons 46), Abeid, Colback (Anita 67), Cabella (Obertan 46), Perez (Riviere 46), Armstrong (Gouffran 46).

Goal:  Obertan

Still no Janmaat or Krul and we could see YMB starting at RB for GW1.  Injuries to De Jong and Santon also affected the lineup.  £4.0m S Taylor started but Haidara again got ahead of Dummett.  Unfortunately the defensive display was woeful in the first half and improved when Williamson came on.  This could cause problems for Taylor.  Only Obertan really came out with any plus points from this performance.

Form players in pre-season: Riviere, De Jong
Value players: £4.0m players CB Steven Taylor but this will set him back if Williamson is fit.
Potential GW1 Lineup: Krul/Elliot – Janmaat/YMB, Haidara, Coloccini, S Taylor/Williamson – Tiote, Colback/Anita – Cabella/Gouffran, DeJong, Sissoko – Riviere

Tottenham 6 Celtic 1

Tottenham: Friedel, Naughton, Dawson, Kaboul, Davies, Mason, Capoue, Holtby, Kane, Townsend, Soldado.
Subs: McGee, Fredericks, Fryers, Rose, Veljkovic, Bentaleb, Eriksen, Lamela, Lennon, Sandro, Adebayor.
Goals: Kane 5, Soldado 12, Holtby 45, Lamela 60, Eriksen 83, Adebayor 89

Celtic had this game sandwhiched between the Champions league qualifier and what emerged was a team of kids that were way off the Spurs lineup.  Little learnt from either team’s perspective.  Chiriches and Dembele were injury absentees.  Still no sign of Paulino.  Lamela keeps on scoring.

form players in preseason: Lamela

Value players:  Davies at LB at £5.0m.

Potential GW1 lineup:   LLoris – Walker, Vertonghen, 1 of Kaboul/Dawson/Chriches – 2 of Sandro/ Bentaleb/Capoue – Eriksen, Lamela, Townsend/Chadli/Lennon – Adebayor

Vitoria Setubal 0 Sunderland 0

SUNDERLAND: Pantilimon, Mavrias, O’Shea, Roberge, van Aanholt, Bridcutt, Gomez, Giaccherini (Ba 76), Johnson, Wickham, Fletcher (N’Diaye 59). Subs not used: Cattermole, Brown, Dixon.

Dont worry Mannone was suffering from illness so nothing conclusive on the Mannone/ Pantilimon battle.  Jones and Cattermole also had injuries.  Another 4-1-4-1 drab display.  Not quite sure why the lethal Wickham at the end of last season continues to play on the left wing.  Johnson had his moments as did Fletcher but overall it was pretty uninspiring.

Form players in preseason: Fletcher
Value players:  Everyone fairly valued. Forward Fletcher has 3-5-2 potential at £5.5m
Potential GW1 lineup: Mannone/Pantilimon – Jones, O’Shea, Brown, Van Aanholt – Bridcutt/Cattermole – Gomez, Johnson, Giaccherini, Laarson/Wickham – Fletcher

Nottingham Forest 1 WBA 0

West Bromwich Albion: Foster, Wisdom, Dawson, Olsson (sub: Lescott, 46 (sub: O’Neil, 80), Pocognoli (Garmston, 86); Baird, Yacob (Anichebe, 46), Gardner, Mulumbu (Brunt, 73), Dorrans, Berahino (Roofe, 76).

Morrison and McAuley and were injury absentees.  Lescott went off for a pain in his knee but apparently not serious.  Pocognoli is in the same boat but nothing on the seriousness available.  WBA played a 5 man midfield with Berahino as the lone striker.  They changed to 4-2-3-1 after the break with Anichebe leading the line.  Berahino, Gardner and Dorrans as the AMs.

form players in preseason:  Anichebe

value players:  With the Gamboa transfer held up by the Visa process £4.0m Wisdom should start at RB.  Could be short term though.  If Dorrans holds onto his place and  pens at £5.0m he could be value

potential GW1 lineup:  Foster – Wisdom Lescott McAuley/Olsson Pocognoli – Mulumbu, Baird/Yacob – Dorrans/Berahino, Brunt, Sessegnon – Anichebe

Shamrock 0 QPR 4

QPR: Green (sub: Murphy, 46), Simpson, Traore, Caulker, Onuoha, Dunne, Barton, Faurlin (Henry, 65), Hoilett, Austin, Zamora (Wright-Phillips, 63).

Goals;  Austin 2 Hoilett 2

No Taarabt or Remy at this stage.  The 3-5-2 formation or 3-4-1-2 in this case with Hoilett behind Austin and Zamora was successful although you have to look at the quality of the opposition.  Certainly gives more credence to £4.5m Simpson at RWB.

Form players in preseason:  Austin  Hoilett

Value players:   Hoilett at £5.0m if he can hold his place

Potential GW1 lineup:   Green – Caulker, Ferdinand, Onuoha/Dunne – Barton, Henry/Faurlin,  Simpson, Traore – Hoilett – Remy Austin

Bournemouth 3 Swansea 1

Reading 1 Swansea 3

Goal:  Montero

Goals:  Routledge 2 Gomis

SWANS: Gerhard Tremmel, Angel Rangel (Liam Shephard, 68), Scott Tancock, Jazz Richards, Stephen Kingsley, Adam King, Lee Lucas, Nathan Dyer (Raheem Hanley, 68), Jefferson Montero (Alex Bray, 68), Josh Sheehan (Henry Jones, 68), Alex Samuel.

Swansea:  Fabianski, Tiendalli (sub: Rangel, 79), Williams, Bartley, Taylor, Ki, Shelvey, Gomis, Sigurdsson, Routledge (sub: Montero, 66), Bony (sub: Dyer, 66).

Amat,  Chico and Britton had injuries which affected the lineups.  The first game against Bournemouth was a youth team from Swansea practically with little relevance.  The 2nd game was far more relevant.

Form players in preseason: Siggy, Montero and Bony
Value players: Taylor £4.5m LB in defence. Everyone else fairly valued.
Potential GW1 lineup: Fabianski/Tremmell – Rangel, Taylor, Chico, Williams – Ki, Shelvy – 2 from Hernandez/Routledge/Montero/Dyer, Siggy – Bony or drop 1 midfilder for Gomis upfront in 4-4-2

Brentford 3 Palace 2

Forest Green 0 Palace 3

Goals:  Murray, Chamakh

Goals:  Campbell 3

Crystal Palace v Brentford: Hennessey (sub: Speroni, 46), Ward, Delaney, Dann, Mariappa, Bolasie, Ledley, Jedinak, Puncheon, Chamakh, Murray.

Couldn’t find a lineup for the Forest Green game

Form players in preseason:   Murray, Campbell

Value players:  Mariappa at FB is the value at £4.5m and this was the first time he got the nod.  There are 4 strikers and still difficult to predict how they will line up.

Potential GW1 lineup:  Speroni –  Ward, Mariappa, Dann, Delaney – Jedinak, Bolasie Punceon, Ledley – 2 from Gayle/Murray/Campbell/Chamakh

Schalke 0 West Ham 0

Malaga 2 West Ham 0

WEST HAM: Jaaskelainen; O’Brien, Tomkins (Reid 46), Collins, Potts; Downing (Vaz Te 78), Kouyate (Diame 54), Poyet, Fanimo (Lletget 54); Nolan; C.Cole (Lee 83)

West Ham United: Adrian, Jenkinson (Nash 62), Reid (Potts 78), Burke, Cresswell, Noble, Whitehead, Diame (Cullen 46), Jarvis, Vaz Te, Zarate

2 games without a goal as the striking crisis goes on with Carroll injured long term and Valencia yet to appear.  This was a mixed lineup with no obvious starting lineup in either.  No real light at the end of the tunnel here with only the Schalke clean sheet as a positive.  Loanee Jenkinson did his hamstring in a hour of playing.  Not helpful as Demel also has injury problems.

form players in preseason:  No one has stood out

value players:   Collins as CB is the value at £4.5m although still unsure if him or Tomkins will start.

Potential GW1 lineup:  Adrian – Demel/O’Brien, Creswell, Reid, Collins/Tomkins – Noble, Nolan, Kouyate – Jarvis/Diame/Zarate, Downing, Cole
