Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league prices article where we look at the biggest prices rises and falls (yes there were 1 or 2 falls!). We also look at our value coefficient on players to find out who is now the best value in relation to last season returns

fantasy premier league prices – biggest price rises and falls, best and worst value players

Here we look at 4 tables relating to price and value.  The first 2 price related tables are simple in the sense that they just record the difference in price between the FPL 17/18 price and the end price of 16/17 and show the highest rises and the biggest drops.

The value tables is where we look at the returns over a 90 minute period and compare it to the price of the player to give them then a value rating.

Just to warn you I monitored just over 150 players last season so this may not be totally complete especially on the drops

Highest price rises

Apart from Origi there’s no surprises with the top 5.  I guess Origi is a viable 2nd alternative to Firmino at CF and while on the pitch his returns were pretty good.

From Llorente down I’m a little surprised at although Pedro is probably understandable as he seems 2nd to Hazard in the attacking Mid stakes.

Biggest price falls

Not that many surprises here although the depth of falls is nothing like the depth of the rises.

Aguero, Mkhitaryan and De Bruyne are probably the most likely to end up in our teams depending on pre-season.  Bellerin maybe if he is still at Arsenal and the clear RWB favourite

It’s worth noting that Pogba, if a proper CDM is bought, could move into the 2 of 4-1-2-3 or even the CAM of 4-2-3-1 if you’re really lucky.

Best value players

The value equation has been done on current prices by relating the price to their returns.

I took out a few players who have virtually no starting prospects in GW1.

The problem with this schedule is that apart from Heaton, Pedro and Alonso  you have a bundle of people who had short gametime spells for various reasons and excelled.  So it would be easy to make a case that had their gametime gone over a longer period it could have diminished the returns.  It does make a useful watchlist though.

Whats interesting is Alonso.  There was alot of eye rolling at the price but no midfielder or forward who played regularly got anywhere near his returns.  Zaha and Lanzini were 20 minutes for an FPL point compared to his 15.  Llorente was the closest at 16.7 minutes but even then you’d question whether he was a regular last season

Worst value players

Not many surprises here.  You can see the differences in minutes per FPL point compared to the best value table which is worlds apart.

Lukaku deserves some words.  The returns are relative to the price.  Aguero, who you would say had a poor season and finished at the same price still had a minutes per FPL point of 13.7 which may not sound much better but it is.  Kanes was 11.3 minutes.  However this doesn’t mean Lukaku is a no go.  Man Utd have excellent fixtures as you’ll see from my fixture ease article.  Lukaku has the capacity to score big as a captain option as well.

What does all this mean?

The price drops give some more attraction to Aguero especially as it squeezes the gap to Jesus.   Also Mkhitarayan becomes more attractive if he can nail a place as he should improve from last season.  De Bruyne and Bellerin, if he can become Arsenals  RWB, also benefit

The best value table acts as a bit of a watchlist as it’s dominated by players who had short spells of excellent gametime.  If those players nail a starting spot then they can be seriously considered.  The table makes the case that Alonso is still good value.

The worst value table doesn’t tell us much we couldn’t have predicted it .  Lukaku as a captain option with good fixtures to start can be set aside.  Pogba has a possible positional change forward to help his fortunes
