I’m getting loads of fantasy premier league queries at the moment and rather than try and answer them all in bits so I’m going to try and do them at once in a post which hopefully will benefit more than just the recipient of the question. So here goes. These questions were answered on Sunday 4th August in case youre reading them later and think the information is superseded or outdated
Q1
through seven preseason matches, Ravel Morrison has 3 goals, 1 assist and one yellow card. something to consider maybe?
A1
Definitely, I’m a huge fan of the guy. Last year I picked him and Sterling as possile outside chance bagains to succeed and although he didnt there’s no denying his talent and he’s definitely on my radar. A little bit of context though is that the 3 goals were against Cork, Boreham Wood and some German side Ive never heard of. Don’t get me wrong though, any attacking midfielder that is £4.5m and has some sort of gametime security is something to be very serious over. I havent done a forensic analysis of West Hams pre-season yet and at the moment I’m strugling to piece together how their attack will line up. If big Sam plays 4-3-3 then the attacking 6 could be Diame Nolan Noble and the front 3 Jarvis Carroll (if and when fit) and Vaz Te. Now who would Morrison replace? Vaz Te would be the ideal. I’m still unsure about whether it will happen. However there are 3 testing games left for West Ham and this will definitely make things clearer. So watch this space
cheers
Q2
I’ve heard from other fantasy managers that Chester has value; apparently not the case?
A2
Q3
pick em
Chadli v. Soldado
Hazard v. Mata
coutinho v. gerrard
and finally, what are you telling yourself this year?
“you can win without RVP” v. “you can’t win without RVP”
A3
I think you can do both but I’m starting with RVP at the moment. His consistency (last year he returned in well over 80% of his starts) really just gives you a go to captain option in all situations.
Cheers, hope that helps
Q4
Hi! Would appreciate if u guys could rmt.
mignolet (davis)
clyne, ivanovic, chester (collins, ben turner)
silva, coutinho, walcott, hazard (c), barkley
aguero, lukaku (dobbie)
with 2M to spare.
A4
Davis probably wont play but again I’m taking that punt as GKs dont get injured much and Mignolet has no competition.
Clyne has an injury so you may need to swap to Shaw at the same price. Chester and Turner just need monitoring through the rest of pre-season whether they will start.
I’m going for Cole as the most secure Chelsea defensive player. Ivanovic has competition at CB and RB
Barkley needs monitoring for gametime. There are safer options such as Thomas and Jedinak of CP, also Britton and Cabral as 2 point fillers
Cheers
Q5
Aren’t Man City more likely to rotate their frontline compared to Arsenal?
A5
Yes definitely. Arsenal only have Giroud at the moment with Podolski and Walcott fillers when Giroud is injured or when Wenger loses faith. In that way Girouds rotation is with the bench and Podolskis with the left flank.
Man City will definitely rotate their 4 strikers although Jovetic can play as an attacking midfielder or in the front 3. The question will be what sort of rotation. Hopefully an A and a B will emerge, one for the premier league and dfficult champs league games and another for the 2 domestic cups and the easier champs league games. At the moment I cant pick it at all which is why I’m reverting to Silva but if one does emerge as a starter then. I may take a punt, especially on Dzeko if Pellegrini keeps talking him up and he does do enough in the final game against Arsenal in pre-season. I’m reluctant though I have to say.
Hope that helps
Q6
Why aren’t acknowledging Ben Arfa? You never even mention him as one to watch. He’s one of the most skillful players in the Prem and scores a bunch of goals too
A6
I really like Ben Arfa as a player. Great skill as you say and he can score some fantastic goals. Last season though he scored 4 goals and 3 assists in 19 matches at about a goal or assist every 200 minutes. Thats over twice the time that say Walcott and Coutinho return and although I appreciate theyre dearer thats whay I’m not sold on that price range. Additionally last year his shooting and creating chances stats were never anything great at all. The year before though he was far better. 6 goals and 5 assists from 16 starts and 10 as sub in about 1550 minutes. Thats a return every 140 minutes which is far better. I’m still swerving him this year for the moment. There are 2 many players in the elite teams with good fixtures to conventrate on
Hope that answers the question.
cheers
Q7
Hi there,
Some great info on the site as always. I’m interested in whether you think Michu would be a good buy this season. He lost his form at the end of last season but so far seems to be performing well during pre-season games. He’s a lot more money than last year though and I think the question is will he thrive or suffer with Bony now at the club. The pressure for him to score will be lower and last season he wasn’t known for his assists so I’m wondering whether not being relied on for goals will result in him not scoring as many as last season now that Bony is there or do you think they will link up well together and score/assist even more?
Thanks
A7
Hi He’s too expensive for me. He’s the only midfielder outside of the elite teams at that price. Swansea also have terrible fixtures to start with, some of the worst in the league and to compound that Michu also scored best against the lesser teams. The fixtures mean I’m not including anyone from Swansea in my GW1 team at the moment. That will at least give me chance to look at Michu (£9.0m) and Bony (£8.0m). For the price if I was going to start with someone it will be Bony who was the top scorer in Eredivisie with amazing stats. I dont think playing behind the striker will effect Michu, if anything his returns were better in that position I feel. He’s just too expensive and the fxtures are too difficult. Thanks
Q8
Please give comments on my team!
Mignolet/Davis
Cole/Collins/Clyne (Ward/Chester)
Silva/Hazard/Coutinho/Garvan (Jedinak)
VPS/Berbatov/Lambert
I am not sure on Coutinho/Berbatov/Lambert. May I sacrifice Berbatov/Lambert with Soldado and a cheap striker? Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks!
A8
Like your team alot and there’s a just a few things to mention
Need to monitor Clynes injury so maybe go for Shaw. Need to monitor Garvan selection after the signing of Grandin. I would sacrifice Lambert for a cheap striker as you suggest Say Anelka or Cornelius (if fit) or gayle and then look to get Soldado in.
Cheers
Q9
Hi,
Please rate my team.
Mignolet
Ivanovic Evra Clichy
Arteta Hazard (c) Walcott Silva
Lambert Sturridge Anelka
Subs – Given, Routledge, Collins, Clyne
Many thanks
A9
Just a few points
Ive chosen Cole over Ivanovic as I think Cole is more certain to play and has little competition for the LB place. Evra I think is too expensive. How about Sagna? The Arsenal defence is stronger than some pundits think and they have good fixtures. Clyne has some injury issues and maybe swap to Shaw
I personally think Arteta plays too deep and I wouldnt include him. Sturridge is having some issues getting fit for GW1. Can you afford Coutinho if you downgrade Evra as a swap. I think Soldado would be a good addition as Spurs have some good fixtures. You may need to downgrade Routlege as well, as he seems to rotate with Dyer, to someone like Quiin or Koren?
I think Davis is better coverage for Mignolet.
Cheers
Thats it. Hope you found something useful for your fantasy premier league team
