Here’s another batch of fantasy premier league queries which hopefully will benefit more than just the recipient of the question. These questions were answered on Saturday 10 August in the afternoon and before I’ve seen any of the friendly results or line ups in case youre reading them later and think the information is superseded or outdated
Q1
Hey FFG, I’m a big fan of your site, keep it coming!
Would really appreciate your thoughts on my GW1 team:
Mingolet (Davis)
Baines, Cole, Collins (Shaw, Brayford)
Hazard, Mata, Walcott, Nolan (Koren)
Sturidge, Dzeko, Anelka
I’ve left out RVP as he’s just too expensive, Bale I think will go and even if Spurs don’t sell before GW1 he might not play if they decide his head isn’t right or they don’t want to risk injury with a world record fee just days away.
I want to bring in either Coutinho (In which case I’ll also swap Sturidge for Soldado) or Silva after GW1.
Any thoughts?

Hi mate, thanks for the comments. Like the team a lot. Here’s a few comments. Personally although I think Baines is an awesome player for £5.0m you can get Coleman who’s also very good going forward. For me £2.5m isnt worth penalties and freekicks which is alot of the difference between the 2. Thats before I even go into the Martinez effect on the defence. I would go for Chester at the moment instead of Brayford, a little more gametime security in my mind. If you havent got Bale or RVP then you should have 1 more top notch player and with Soldado not going to Ecudaor I would put him in as you say swap Coutinho for Sturridge and put Soldado in there.
Hope that helps your thought process
Q2
Hey, love the site.. here is my team can i hear some of ur views.. I know i have no man u coverage but lets look at their preseason they have been terrible. will sell ramires after game week 1 for zaha
Gk: Begovic, Lewis
Defenders; Ivanovic, Coleman, Chester, Rangel,Clyne
Mid; Hazard, ramires, Walcott, Thomas, Coutinhio
Forward: Anelka, Augero, Soldado

Hi thanks for the comments, much appreciated.
I think Begovic is over priced and the Stoke defence won’t be nearly as good as last year as Hughes is a very attacking manager compared to Pulis. For £5.5m you can get Mignolet and for £6.0m De Gea who will return far better.
I think I’ve stated that I prefer Cole to Ivanovic as Cole has little competition for a spot from Bertrand. Ivanovic has Azpili at RB and competition at CB. He has a good scoring record though so if he does play both games then he could return big, but too much of a risk for me.
I think Rangel is far too expensive at £5.5m. For £5.0m than that you can get Toure who looks certain to start or Dawson who should return far better.
Ramires plays a little deep for me although he should play both games with Lamps injured and Mikel out of favour. Van Ginkel is in the same position. the switch to Zaha providing he lines up should be a good call.
Keep an eye out for Aguero as he is struggling for fitness to start the season. Man U have tricky fixtures which does mitigate having no coverage.
Hope that helps your thinking
Q3
Hi mate, really enjoy your work and would love to hear what you think of my latest team (will be changed another 500 times in the next 7 days). I’d also like to know your opinion on the Spain Squad announcement as it made me remove Lukaku from my team and I only have 2 DGW’s now. Should I consider anyone else? Mata?
Here is my team:
Mingolet
Ivanovic, Mertesacker, Collins
Bale, Hazard (c), Coutinho, Mirallas
Anelka, Dzeko, Giroud
Bench: Mannone, Clyne, Coleman, Pozuelo
I will be replacing Ivanovic after GW1 with Lescott and then I have my ideal defence. But not sure on Pozuelo and the amount of DGW’s. Also, just any changes you think I should make would be cool.
Cheers

Hi thanks very much for the kind comments. Like the team. Personally I’m going for a non playing GK to save £0.5m through Davis as I believe the GK risk injury is low. However, I understand people want cover.
Be careful of Clyne he’s not fit at the moment so I am switching to Shaw.
I think everyone knows of the Bale Saga. Hopefully there will be clarity over the coming week.
Apart from those few bits I havent much else to say about your team and like it alot. I’m thinking that I go for the Hazard and Mata double if Mata is injury free and then switch to Silva after he comes back from Ecudaor for GW2.
The Torres thing is a pain but if Mourinho goes 4-2-3-1 then how can you guarantee 1 player will play twice.
Hope those few comments give some food for thought
Cheers

Cheers and see you then!
Q5
Hi there great post,
I was wondering if you could create a scenario to show how to use the captain change midweek/weekend to maximise captain changes and points gained.
Little confused i will mess this up and I can see how this will be beneficial throughout the season.
Many thanks,
Josh
A5
Yes I will be doing one during the course of next week as well as outlining my view of the best players in Sky
cheers
Q6
I have been following this website for years, what do you think of my team so far
Cech
Clyne
Brown
Collins
Walcott
Coutinho
Hazard
Silva
Hooper
Soldado
Jelavic
Subs
Routledge
Figueroa
McNaughton
Davies GK

Hi, thanks for supporting the site for so long
Here’s a few observations. Clyne has some injury issues so probably best to swap to Shaw. Turner of Norwich is probably a better £4.5m option than Figueroa. I would go for Chester as a starter for Hull for £0.5m cheaper
McNaughton wont play in my view. Think about Ward of Palace or a bit more of a gamble with Brayford of Cardiff.
Silva has a little bit of risk about him in going to play in Ecuador for Spain. I’m thinking of the Mata double with Hazard then flipping to Silva afterwards. Mata still needs some injury monitoring though
I think Van Wolfswinkel is a better bet than Hooper in my mind. he has a very good scoring record. Other options at a similar price are Dzeko although risky gametime wise and Berba who has good fixtures.
Routledge is a bit too expensive as a bench midfielder. Jedinak or Thomas at £4.5m are cheaper bench options. Jelavic has done well in pre-season but only as a sub and I can’t see him starting with Martinez preferring his old boy Kone so far
Thanks and hope that helps you when considering options for your team
Thats it. There will be a big post tomorrow on the last of the friendlies
