fantasy premier league – Questions and Answers part 4

Preseason

Here’s another batch of fantasy premier league queries  which hopefully will benefit more than just the recipient of the question.   These questions were answered on Saturday 10 August in case youre reading them later and think the information is superseded or outdated

Q1

Hey gov’ – loving your work. RMT if you can (anyone for that matter!)

GK – Boruc
Def – Alcaraz, Ward, Bruce, Turner, Brayford
Mid – Mirallas, Bale, Tiote, Lampard, Walcott
Forward – RVP, Lukaku, Berbatov

A1

Thanks for the nice comments.  Here’s a few points on your team

You didnt say who your other GK is.  Needs someone cheap to rotate home and away with Boruc.

Alcaraz is injured and I dont see him being ready for GW1.  There are a number of £4.5m alternatives although Toure of Liverpool is a good £5.0m option.
Bruce wont start.  I still believe Chester is your best Hull bet at £4.0m
You mean Turner of Norwich?  If so good call
Brayford is not guaranteed to start but a good gamble as neither is Ben Turner the other £4.0m defender for Cardiff guaranteed

I think there are better £4.5m options for midfield.  Tiote is a bit card happy.   Thomas of Palace is one of the better ones.  Barkley or Morrison if you want to gamble.  Cabral is a safer choice.

Lampard probably wont start GW1 as he has some injury and fitness issues.  You should have Hazard in the team.  He is the most nailed on starter and the best captain option.

I think Lukaku will start but Torres not in the Spain sqaud was not helpful.  Lukaku’s not guaranteed to start but then again no one else really is apart from Hazard to start both games.  You should really have some City coverage if possible given their easy starting fixtures.  Dzeko is a gamble but could sub for Berba

Obviously were all hoping for clarity over the Bale saga before GW1

cheers

Q2

Hi love your site. Was in 10th place out of 13 in a mini league at mid way but then using insight from your site, jumped up to 2nd place.

This is the team I am looking to start – my 11th version – see what you started :)
Mignolet
Collins Cole Mertesacker (wanted Nastasic but he is injured will trade when fit)
Hazard Walcott Snodgrass Nolan (had Silva and two cheapies but changed for strong 4)
RVP Anelka Soldado

Subs: Davis, Thomas, Chester, Parr

Biggest concern is there is not much risky or new (other than Soldado) so may not be different enought to pull away from others. Thoughts?

A2

Hi thanks for your comments, much appreciated

Not really much I can comment on your  team as I like it all.  Silva has a little worry about him being in the Spain squad to Ecuador but I think having some City coverage is essential with their fixtures which is the only comment I would make.  Dzeko is the cheap risky option,  Silva is probably the safest except for GW1.  At the moment I’m considering Mata and Hazard for the Chelsea DGW1 and then flipping to Silva in case he is left out of GW1 due to the travelling but I really dont think City can be ignored.  I like both Snodgrass and Nolan but I think there is too much value in the £9.0m range.  Sterling if we have evidence that he will  play is another good option at the cheaper level where Liverpool have great fixtures

I wouldnt worry about deliberate differentials.  You should pick the best players for your team and if it is a new player so be it.  In any case often the captain is the real differential.

Q3

Could you please rate my team and give me some advice kind sir?

Mignolet/ (Davis)
Coleman/ Luiz/ Mertesacker/ (Baker)/ (Whittaker)
Hazard (C)/ Bale/ Carrick/ Paulinho/ (Colback)
Aguero/ Bony/ Berbatov

A3

Hi a few points

I would go for Cole rather than Luiz, Luiz has some injury issues apart from the whole Barca stuff and the Chelsea CB position isnt clear.  Cole is a nailed on defensive starter, no one else is

I’m still not convinced once Okore is match fit that Baker will start, I’m not even that convinced he’s ahead of Clark.  Chester is my favourite £4.0m option.  Whittaker will start GW1 I think but once Bassong is fit he will drop out and Martin and Olsson will be the FBs.  Ward is pretty safe at RB for Palace.
Personally I think Carrick and Paulino will play too deep to be worth putting in your team.  If you want mid price mids then my pics are Snodgrass £6.5m Zaha £6.5m if you want to take a risk,  or Kagawa (£8.0m) if you want to downgrade one of the mids although this assumes Rooney doesn’t play behind RVP and Kagawa does.  Lallana and Morrison are other options at £6.0m and Nolan at £7.0m if you have a lttle more cash

Colback will probably play FB so if you want a cheap mid bench filler Cabral is my safe option or Thomas of Palace who is more attacking.  Barkley and Morrison are the big gambles along with Pennant who’s upside isn’t potentially as big

I think Bony is too expensive at £8.0m and coupled with difficult fixtures, I wouldnt play him.  You’ve got no Arsenal coverage so although I prefer Walcott I would think about Giroud assuming no Suarez signing and he would be ahead of Bony for me

Hope that helps

Q4

Hi,

What would be the best options for 4.0 Defenders, and 4.5 MD?

Thank you

 A4

£4.0m defenders are rare:

Fairly safe:  Ward and Parr – Palace.  Chester – Hull.  More of a gamble, Ben Turner  and Brayford of Cardiff.

£4.5m mids – Safe but will get little returns. Cabral – Sunderland, Jedinak – Palace.  More attacking and should play – Thomas – Palace

Gambles with upside – Pennant Stoke, Barkley Everton and Morrison West Ham

Q5

Hello Sir

Please rate this draft team

Mignolet, Boruc
Turner, Collins, Coleman, Cole, Koscielny
Brady, Jedinak, Mirallas, Walcott, Hazard
Anelka, Lukaku, RVP

A5

Good team

I would go for Davis rather than Boruc, just to save £0.5m as  I don’t see the need to have  playing keeper as reserve.  GK injuries are rare

Michael Turner?  ok.  Ben Turner is a bit more risky, go for Chester instead

I like Coleman alot but I’m not that hopeful of Everton’s defence under Martinez.  Dawson for the same price or Toure if you dont mind a Liverpool double up are my preffered options.

I’m switching  out Brady for Koren as my preffered £5.0m.  Kim of Cardiff for the same price has shown some great pre-season form.

Lukaku should start but not guaranteed but then again only Hazard is in my mind. City coverage is essential with their fixtures.  Dzeko is the risky option but amazing value at £7.5m.  Silva safer but may not play in GW1 after travelling to Ecudaor.  Needs monitoring

Hope that helps

Thats it for now.  Hope to send out more later
