fantasy premier league – Saturday GW1 review

Fantasy Premier League, Gameweek analysis

Here’s a summary of some of the significant happenings of Saturday GW1.  We’ll look at the individual games and who has performed and who didn’t.  We’ll also look at some of the positional and player dilemmas

fantasy premier league – Saturday GW1 review

Man Utd 1 Swansea 2

Siggy

Playing as the CAM Siggy showed us why he’s such a quality attacking midfielder.  His assist may have been fortunate but there’s no doubt about the positioning which lead to his goal.  He didn’t have a huge amount of touches in the box or shots but his average position was higher than any Swansea player.

With Burnley and WBA home in consecutive games next expect a significant bandwagon.  As I write this only Dier has more transfers in.

Rooney

Rooney is one of the better players against poor opposition and also is a consistent returner over the season.  Great qualities for a captain candidate and yesterday he didn’t disappoint while all around him did.  A decent goal and a lot of shots and pen box touches.

Mata

Unfortunately Mata didn’t follow Rooneys example and was poor all game with little attacking threat.  Sunderland away wont be easy and then it’s Leicester.  However United were significantly better away last season than at home.

Stoke 0 Villa 1

The Villa defence

I know Vlaar did well in the World Cup but I didn’t expect him to turn the Villa water defence into wine.  However it was a reasonable defensive performance although Stoke are hardly Man City.  £4.5m Vlaar got the full bonus and £4.0m RB  Alan Hutton started and got the clean sheet.

Bojan

Didn’t score but showed enough to still give his owners hope and a few reasonable chances.  Hull and Man City away won’t be easy.

Leicester 2 Everton 2

McGeady

The £5.5m midfielder could be the beneficiary of Barkleys long injury.  Yesterday his goal and performance were excellent.   Mirallas and Osman are a threat to his position though and there is gametime risk

QPR 0 Hull 1

The Hull defence

£4.5m CB James Chester on the bench wasn’t my best decision of the day with a goal, clean sheet and bonus sitting there doing nothing.  The Hull defence is still an open question as they were under the kosh for long periods.  However their away defence has never been their strength and it’s home where we’ll be expecting clean sheets. Home to Stoke next is a good fixture

Tom Ince

The beneficiary of the Shane Long transfer he had a good game as the CAM/support striker.  He had a couple of good chances and looked threatening.  Home to Stoke is a good time to jump on although I’m assuming Bruce will buy a striker which will end the advantage.

Remy

The £7.5m forward,  considering he had virtually no pre-season and can’t have been anything like fit he looked sharp and was unlucky not to score.  Will get stronger and is the star of the team by a country mile for bonus points.  Away to Spurs is a tricky next fixture though.

Mutch

Had one chance but otherwise was disappointing considering his advanced central role and the chances QPR had.

WBA 2 Sunderland 2

Berahino

The £5.5m forward with pens in his locker now and 2 goals he looks a good cheap 3-5-2 striking option.  Away to Southampton and Swansea aren’t the worst fixtures.

The Sunderland defence

It would have been interesting to see how this game would have ended if the ridicuous penalty against Sunderland hadn’t been given.  Despite the score it wasn’t a particularly defensivly poor performance.  A vist from Man Utd should test it further and not the time to transfer in.

Rodwell

I had hope for the £5.0m box to box midfielder but he really did nothing in this game against one of the more ordinary defences.  Home to United is probably not the time to buy.

West Ham 0 Spurs 1

Lamela vs Eriksen

A chance to see the 2 together to compare options after Lamelas excellent preseason.  However the battle between the 2 was a total nil nil draw.  Lamela did nothing.  I mean no shot no chance created.  He has skill and is quality but you would never have known it today apart from a few nifty little tricks.  He started as the CAM but then moved to the flank and Eriksen played centrally which made no difference as he drifted in centrally the whole time as if the right flank didn’t exist.

Rose v Davies

The Spurs defence isn’t the easiest to predict at the moment and both these 2 represented value at £5.0m.  Rose started though which was disappointing for those who had gambled on him

Arsenal 2 Palace 1

Ramsey v Sanchez

1 chance 1 goal Ramsey did it again.  He didn’t have the greatest game but was in the right place at the right time.  Sanchez didn’t have many shooting chances but did create a decent amount of chances and played in a very advanced role.  1 nil to Ramsey so far but Sanchez isn’t finished by any stretch.

The Arsenal defence

Did concede against one of the poorer attacking teams with a set piece but were in control of the game for long periods and the defence solid.  Those hoping for the Chambers clean sheet to improve the value short term would have been disappointed though.

Thats it on to Sunday
